REBUILDING THE PLAYA IN CHIEF CHAPTER 1: I have been struggling with golf playas. I just lacked motivation to go play. My body is a ball of knots. Life stress, life problems and work issues creep into your life and the golf is secondary. Then it starts falling to pieces.
But it's time for a change. So I saw Michele Low for an on-course lesson at TPC Kuala Lumpur. In this new series, I will delve into what I am going to do until the end of the year to get my game in order. That will be swing lessons, body development, and on course work with pro's and whoever.

I want to get better and I need a more balanced life as work and this nonsense of the mask-wearing virus has separated me from my loved ones and caused a lot of work stress. This is the first step. From this on course lesson I learned a few amazing things:
My putting needs work and Michele fixed it - now I have something to go work on.
My swing needs to be adjusted. I want to get rid of the sway in my swing which is a consequence of playing sports and also from a poor lifestyle of sitting for the last few years. I will see a swing coach.
Michele was practically showing me the way of the playa. It highlighted how far I have moved away from the path of the Way of the Playa because my brain is so scattered with other work and life stress when I do get to the golf course.
There is so much value in this video and Michele is a superb coach.

Years back I had the fortune to play with two course pro's and a college golfer as my summer golf shenanigan buddies.... completely changed my game, mentally, technically, everything. The range is good, but playing an actual round with very good people who are also willing to teach you was eye opening. Never had a full on lesson on the course, I imagine it's even more impactful!

    • @cdh79
      @cdh79 3 роки тому

@@tedzink4574yes I did! Since that comment I've actually had 2 on-course lessons with my pro (a third one planned in for September already as well) and also plenty of "normal" lessons where we focus not only on technique but also on the mental game and also on "how to train properly" (so also with a specific goal in mind and not just hitting thousands of balls).
My main issue is that on the range I am able to switch my mind off and just play, while on the course I still have some issues with commitment. I've been told that by some girlfriends in the past, but that was before I played golf, so I wonder how they knew back then :P
All kidding aside, I now understand a bit better where some of my weaknesses are and that has already helped improve my game by trying to actively tackle them. There's still plenty to improve, but I see it all heading the right direction. Most of it is between my ears.

@@cdh79 That's great. There's a lot of resistance to figuring out the mental issues holding people back from improving their games or just the subtle changes needed to get them playing from a position of strength rather than playing into their weaknesses. To all you Playas out there- After lots struggles and rising scores, I just shot 83-one stroke off my personal best. Solid strikes all day, nothing worse than bogey. To what do I credit this improvement? Yes, Golf Sidekick helped...But it's all down to SEEING A PRO! If you don't get at least periodic lessons from a pro you trust, you're wasting your time. A teacher can point out things you had no idea you were doing (I also tend to sway, especially in the down swing, which was causing my fat and thin shots. I had no clue) and give fixes that make sense to you. I now have a better understanding of what true rotation feels like throughout the swing and have a couple of little thoughts/feels I can hang on to during a round.
To the Playa in Chief- Now that I sorted out some technical stuff, I was more equipped to employ your principles during my nice round- picking small targets, aiming for trouble you know you can't reach, thinking about angles into greens, not shortsiding yourself. The very things the brilliant Michele reminded you of! So how can the Playa lose his way if his way is that of the Playa? It's a philosophical riddle with a simple answer: GOLF. Waddagame. Thank you for sharing the struggles to which all golfers can relate. One of your best videos yet.

Yes sir. I find it is merely small decisions that make the big difference. Someone put it this way. Could you paint a van gogh? Not looking at it no. But if you took a photo of it and zoomed into the individual pixels and then drew tiny squares on your canvas and painted each square the correct color as the individual pixels, in a year, you would have a full painting an exact replica of a van gogh. But it's broken down into those tiny individual pixels. That's how the body gets out of shape or into shape. It's how we end up diabetic, fat, sick, stressed...there are tiny decisions every day that can have profound effects over 5 years if we always try to make the best decision in that moment. Like an insignificant one (on the surface) is OH I FEEL LIKE A BIG MAC. Well, I could keep driving to McD and go buy one and eat it. Or...OR!!! I could turn left, go home and walk for an hour and after the hour, I just want a glass of water and an apple. Keep doing that for those tiny decisions and BOOM, you don't even recognize your great self in 5 years

Great video! It's JMAC from the FB group! The 3, 3, 3 concept is exactly what I tell my baseball players (I coach high school) about starting every game with a 0-0 record. This gets their minds in the right place. We could have a record of 2-5 going into a game but having a mindset that we are 0-0 it motivates them to try harder and get a win. I will try the 3, 3, 3 process next time I go out!

England Rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson tells the story of how he became so accurate when kicking conversions or penalties by mentally visualising the tier of the stadium he’s aiming to behind the posts, then visualising the section of the tier, then visualising the row of seats, then visualising the old lady in the seat, then visualising the ice cream she’s holding, and finally focusing on the flake in the ice-cream of the old lady who’s sitting in the sit in the row in the section of the tier he’s aiming for. Bonkers really. But interesting how it applies just as well to golf too. Definitely something in it.

I'm happy to say you have helped me from shooting 100+ when I started to shooting in the 90's and an 86 for the first time! 3 birdies in one round this past weekend. Since 2 years ago, I have devoted my time to the gym and practicing in my free time at the driving range. I'm still just 21 but man the extra power and flexibility is VERY evident. Good luck on your journey and I will continue to support you!

Hi, great vid as always. I've not had an on-course lesson because... because... no idea what to say, I've had loads. Best thing ever, my coach and I don't ever talk mechanics on course, just feel, emotion, confidence level etc to decide on a shot and then execute. As an example I was struggling mightily off the tee a few weeks ago with a two direction miss, but had a big tournament coming up - so we went on the course, and found my comfortable aiming point to "deliberately and CONSISTENTLY slice" the driver onto the right side of the fairway, cause that's what my body wanted to do during that period and while it wasn't pretty it did get the ball in play. Can only do stuff like that on course. Michele seems like a brilliant coach, so many awesome points... Good luck and best wishes!

Playa In Chief, I wanted to share that you have inspired me to be a BAUS Scramblin' Man. Today I cold topped a 5-wood from 200 yards out. Normally I would mope, feel sorry for myself and blame the shite shot on barometric pressure etc. My topped 5-wood left me with 40 yard to go and I had a new mindset - Bleep It! I am going to chip this up tight with my PW and make a par putt. AND that is exactly what I did.
So, Muchas Gracias El Jefe de BAUS Nation.

Michelle has a great personality. Putting: The ball will always SKIP for the first 1/7 of the path - it's been tested. So you should try to hit it 1 degree up to help prevent the ball jumping and roll better for the remaining 6/7s. Range: You can try a 3 x3 matrix a little like a noughts and crosses (or tic-tact-toe) grid. The bottom left square is a right hander's low fade, the top right - a high draw and the rest is everything in-between. Put an aim stick in the ground a few yards out as an indicator post. It takes a lot of discipline to only hit just one of each type of shot so go for a max of three tries and reduce to one (no repeats) over time. This brings a little bit of course pressure to the range.

Thanks for this video! I Haven't had on-course lesson because after watching your "How to Break 100" & "...Break 90" videos, my game has become stress free and fun. Sometimes I score 98, sometimes 88. (Actual score...not +1 on every hole as you instruct.) What I now have, though, is Fun playing the game. I even help coach a high school golf team and preached your mantra from day 1. "Use less clubs...add 1 shot per hole." I can't tell you how much stress came off those young athlete's shoulders after they bought into this mindset! I will still always watch your videos and have told the kids to subscribe as well. I'll take credit for coaching the kids, but know that You were given the credit for the mindset and mantra I use to teach. Thanks again for your refreshing take on this lifelong game and keep up the great work.

the reason why I like your channel is that you know enough about golf not to let you feel complacent about it, but rather seek advice from pros. I love on course lessons, because whatever you can do on the range won't translate by magic. Congrats for doing a great job in promoting women pros, by the way, who are underrated by so many players I know because "hey, man, they have to hit a 4 iron and not a 6" (the same players who tend to forget they can't hit their 6 consistently). Can't wait for next episode!

I love Michele's comments on the putts. I feel a lot of us just consistently disregard our putter or don't have a great feel for the putter and what our speed is off the face of the putter is. It's worth spending those extra hours on the putting green getting a feel for how the ball comes off the face of the putter and to truly understand our stroke.

Last 2 rounds I played really well, and I had only 1 swing thought:"stay on top of the ball". 4:24 What she talks about the flop shot and needing the club head to lead and not the hands took me 1.5 hours to get to mentally during my 2.5 hour chip session and later at the par 3 I only miss-hit one chip since I was able to use at least three different chips consistently, a lot of flopping involved. An alternative to the picking a super tiny thing in the distance...that I have found incredibly helpful:
Visualize the ball flight that your shot will have, from club to target. A) It helps if you can control the ball flight...so there’s that (B) It makes you focus intently on your intention, and on the shot you’re making.
    Not hoping and praying.
Learned from the ZenGolfMechanics genius, Marcus Bell (and RMW).
