I asked him if people still give him red staplers to sign, and he cracked up laughing and said there were two staplers waiting for him in his dressing room when he showed up to set that day.
What's more funny about that statement is that I know he was in St. Louis earlier yesterday giving the commencement address at SLU. He must have jumped on a plane immediately to make it to back to NY for this.
While Jon's cameos are well scripted and appreciated...it does beg the question of why he's showing up so often now. He's approaching Steve Martin level at this stage.

I used to love spotting character actors on the street in NY and calling out their names. They always seemed surprised and pleased. The idea of physically assaulting them is just horrible.
I've seen a lot of them as well, I even saw Giancarlo Esposito back in the days when he wasn't an everyday name. He was walking right down 42nd St and I think I was the only one that recognized him.
Pretty sure no one is targeting character actors. It's a sketch. They were random incidents in a dump of a city with 8 million people where there are 75 assaults a day on average.

Six season of Justified, however many millions of seasons exist of Sons of Anarchy, and in that whole time I'm not convinced anyone but select fans of Justified ever bothered to learn his name. So it's probably fair enough. Same with Buscemi who was once considered the most prolific actor of all time and said himself he's surprised if he ever gets a leading role.

Then you go to Vice Principals and the Unicorn. Not only do you see his range, but he is lead for those two.
