Excellent practice as usual. In addition to the actual physical movements, I’m also loving the knowledge you drop and the commentary during the video. Wise words on how to treat yourself and the benefits of staying dedicated. Thank you!
Hi Andrew. Thank you so much for these videos, you're my favorite yoga teacher. I was wondering if you could share on how you choose which practice you do at any given time? Are there certain states of being that make you more inclined to do kundalini vs. hatha?
Thank you so much, Chris! That's very kind of you to say 🤗 For me it basically comes down to two things. One is time. Kriya or "Kundalini Yoga" typically takes less time to get an effect than Asana. So if my time is limited or I just want to do a quick practice, I'm more likely to choose Kriya. (Actually I'm most likely to just choose meditation if I only have 10-20min... But that's another topic) The second is how I am feeling, energetically. I find Hatha and long form Asana to be much more grounding than dynamic movements and breathwork. So if I'm feeling sensitive or spaced out at all, I will avoid Kriya and favor a slower, more stable practice. This is why I focus on teaching mostly these two styles. I find they really complement each other. Kriya is more stimulating and dynamic, while Asana is more grounding and balancing. If I only do Kriya I can get too airy, forgetful or very detached from the material world. Asana has less negatives for me... And I could practice only Hatha. But I also really like Kundalini Yoga 😅 I hope that gives you some insight into my preferences. Of course this is my experience. For someone else it may be completely different.
Whether a practice is appropriate to do daily is a very subjective matter. Without knowing you, your fitness level, your current experience, goals and aspirations, I cannot say whether this would be a suitable daily routine for you. Give it a try and see! Check in with yourself after a few days and inquire whether it's beneficial or if it would be better to take up a different daily routine 🙏
Thank you Andrew! You are an amazing teacher! Greetings from Vancouver!!!
