Minus the UV glue, this is how we tied scuds in the fly tying class I took. You are right super easy and I bet there are a lot of color option you can do! Keep it up!
Liking this series. I have a few things of ostrich herl for pike streamers. I need to open those bags and break away from my current pike tying habits.
I bought some Ostrich a few weeks ago, just because it looked like good material for some motion. Haven’t used it yet..that’s fixing to happen. Thanks a lot Brian. 👍🎣👌
You cracked me up and was spot on with that Snufflelupicus reference. Haha 😆 Great points on the maribou of peacock 🦚 herl. The versatility is a great value proposition.
Nice presentation Brian. You should explore Emu. I haven't yet, but a few years ago it was recommended as a sub for ostrich. Then Fly Tyer had an article on a tier that started using it for dries, nymphs, and wets. There's a learning curve on selecting the right fibers for the fly type, but it sounded pretty cool. Nice scud, nicer Clouser. Add some olive bucktail to the top wing and it would make a cool rainbow trout. Bass and pike eat them in some lakes in my state. Thanks for your work 😀👍
Thanks for bringing this tying material to light !! I've used ostrich for years on my flies, especially on my Intruders. I've also started adding them to my streamer patterns. ( I'm pretty sure I made a comment on Trigger Treat video & I've re-watched the video several times & my comment is gone ?? just curious as to why ) Thanks anyway for the videos. I'm curious about the chasing browns with a squid fly, I would have thought it'd be something along the lines of "Hell, let's try it and see what happens"
HAHA! Yeah, I had to tie a Squid Fly for a certain companies UA-cam Channel.....and when people I hear people say that fish have gotten "smart" I lead with "Well, you can catch a brown trout on a squid fly." :)
It is hard to find good ostrich herl. My best bunch, that I still have a lot of, was from a stripper in Vancouver. I bought her feather boa and it has tied many intruders and pick yer pockets. It's the best piece of 5 foot long strung ostrich I have. It's a good reason to stop by those places. They have better and cheaper feathers than fly shops.
As a beginner, I unknowingly picked up an olive grizzly ostrich and found myself tying perfect scud patterns!
Great series. Today is my big day...I needed a win today. Woohoo. Ostrich Herl, not just for comically large writing utensils anymore.
HAHAHA!!!
I us it for legs on nymphs and my crawdads. It’s awesome stuff.
Minus the UV glue, this is how we tied scuds in the fly tying class I took. You are right super easy and I bet there are a lot of color option you can do! Keep it up!
Been using this stuff for years. Makes great breathers on nymphs, in the right size.
Wow ! Never thought about ostrich feathers go into much detail ! Thank you and awsome scud fly!
One of my favorite materials
Love these new series. Just caught a few smallmouth on a clouser yesterday! First time ever throwing one. That one you tied is slick 🤙
That is awesome!
Great video on ostrich feathers and #flies. Particularly like the Clouser. Thanks.
Headed to the fly shop. That is cool material.
Thanks for the idea of ostrich for tying a scud. I'll be tying some of those soon!
Liking this series. I have a few things of ostrich herl for pike streamers. I need to open those bags and break away from my current pike tying habits.
The scud was a super cool example of how to use ostrich!
Had a boat load of ostrich lying in my tying desk for ever. But only recently started using it in inteuders and I freaking love it!!!
Amazing material, love it when it can be used for lots of patterns!
Same!
I LOVE these product spotlight videos. I have used some Ostrich and really like the way it moves.

Fun to throw in dubbing loops and make longer veils in streamers
Ostrich is so cool!
Love your videos! Now to the store for ostrich!
Ostrich in beasts look amazing aswell! Well done Brian, looking forward for this series! 😊
Another killer video!!! Thanks Brian, the tips were great!
Thanks!
i have used ostrich before on nymph legs for the movement.
I started using the fluffy ostrich herl few years ago on my leech patterns in place of maribou tails with great success !
Sounds great!
Love the video. I now know that I'm seriously lacking in Ostrich Herl. I don't know to thank or curse you. LOL
I’ve never used ostrich before but I’ll definitely try it now!

For sure!
Ostrich! Went to the zoo this weekend & saw one up close and was like ahhhhh
Ostrich herl is very cool, such an amazing video!
Thanks!!
Thanks for the info. Been away from it for awhile!
Don’t sleep on ostrich hurl. I use it in a lot of my personal fly patterns or variations. A killer Stillwater guide-fly I cooked up is 75% ostrich 😂😂
So simple, I think I’m going to try it.
Do! It is fun stuff to work with.
Ostrich is indeed nifty stuff. Love these product videos. What’s up next? How about emu?
Great video as always going to give it a shot
Man loves these out the most I see on UA-cam these am the videos for me plus ur tyin is bad on like the stuff u doin now
Where do you find ostrich so huge? Love the colors.
A local tier makes a killer deceiver using ostrich for a the tail! Another great video.
Thanks!
Loving the content. Thanks fly tie Tio.
More to come!
Definitely need to buy some of that now.
Yup!
Thanks for great videos!
Thanks for watching!
Great video
Appreciate the info and insight bro! Should throw a tank test in the mix so we can see how it all behaves.
Can I replace marabou with this?
Thanks for this one never thought to do scuds this way are u covering faux bucktail?
Good info, Thank you

Weird. I will look into it. Sometimes UA-cam can do some funky things.
I don't see it either. Not sure what would have happened to it!
Brian, can you showcase different types of dubbing?
Great video, I love to use ostrich on pike/musky flies instead of hackle feathers just because of the price of hackle.
That's a great idea!
I'm curious about the chasing browns with a squid fly, I would have thought it'd be something along the lines of "Hell, let's try it and see what happens"

I appreciate that!
Thanks, now I've got to make a trip to Hobby Lobby for some scud material. Also sweet shirt #AllSpeciesOdyssey
