Just started fly tying and I’m now getting into the streamer phase. I don’t have many materials but I make for what I have. Thanks for the amazing video Brian.
I got some a few months back tied up very similar fly as you tied here but on 3/0 hook for dorado and rooster fish . Was great for dorado roosters chased fly fly but put the brakes on right before the take … next time!
Awesome video!! I’ve been fly fishing for small mouth and large mouth bass for the past year and started tying my own flies. You make it look so easy, can’t wait to see more!!!
I'll have to check those out, was making a trip to KC and stopped by a Bass Pro and they had a bunch of those but I just grabbed a some of MFC's barred schlappen
Great product video. MFC has just put out a fantastic product line wth these synthetics. Tying always evolves and products like these move creative tying forward. Thanks for the tying session in the video.
That’s awesome 👏 Brian. Thank you very much for the opportunity and the sweet dead meat 🍖 custom eyes 👀 and knucklehead fly. As far as this product goes I can see it being used for just what you mentioned plus with it being long I can see some musky flies being tied as well. It would combo well with those matching barred and colored feathers 🪶 from MGC that I saw Kelly Galloup talking about a couple days ago. 😎🎣
My method for storing synthetic fibers for tying. 1) Remove them from the packaging and lay them flat on a craft table. Equally distributed. 2) Take the flattest end and press a hot iron (I heat an old butter knife with a cigar lighter) to it for a couple seconds 3) Place the material back on the table and then melt 2mm of the fibers on each side to secure the hold. It makes it all stay together evenly, and it's great when you're production tying and want quick portioned fibers. I can't wait to add this product to my wall!
New MFC ownership. Same guy owns Golden (CO) fly shop. Has an impressive streamer wall and overall selection. Just bought a new Douglas Sky G, great customer service too.
Brian… you make it look so easy!! The material looks great, and yes , MFC seems to be making some BIG changes. Almost like they are under new ownership, or management, or perhaps landed some substantial private equity backing, Love, Love their stuff.
I will be interested to see more fly tying videos with this material! Curious to see how well it will work mixed in with some marabou on some woolies......Might be a decent wing material in place of elk hair on some caddis???
Will have to check it out MFC synthetic. I have been using Steve Farrar SF Blend and Crystal Flesh Baitfish Fibre, which seems to be a very similar material. Like that mottled and grizzly blends.
But I really enjoy watching your videos they've helped me a lot with my flightline we don't have anything like that here in New Zealand and i'd love to have a go with it. Keep up with the great content
That is a different product. I will heading to Montana in Feb. Can wait to fish up there. Thanks for the information about flying tying it will help out alot 😊
Awesome colors! I can see how my craft fur baitfish can get a different look with this product. Question: what do you think about the length of the product in the package? Easy to measure and use without a lot of waste?
Can you use it for hollow tying!! Excellent review of pros and cons! Put me on the list for pre-release materials!!! I'm gonna try it on some larger Bass streamers!! Thanks again and keep the great videos coming!
You 'could' use it for hollow tying, but it won't have the flair that you can get out of other materials. BUT, if you where to layer it with bucktail in a hollow fly-----that would be sick.
Would you recommend this material to be used for dry fly dubbing? I've had my package for a while and have tied with it a couple times, but put it on stand-still until I could figure out different ways to use it. Your demonstration video certainly did that, but now I'm wondering more about dubbing use with this material. Any suggestions or advice?
Brian, awesome video and can’t wait to try this out! Question. I’m looking for a jig/slotted bead combo to replace just doing dumbbell eyes for clousers. Do you have a suggestion?
Hi, Thanks for the review. I got some white, dirty olive, and midnight purple. I mostly tie saltwater streamers. I need an orange and a pink. I can find a listing or pictures of these colors. Do you know where I can get more info. Thanks
www.feather-craft.com/item/tu102/montana-fly-co-mfc-scales-n-tails-baitfish-blends/1.html looks like the orange may be hard to find. Depending on what shade of pink you are looking for there is Cotton Candy and Rainbow....but neither are a 100% true pink.
I love that you’re videos are short and to the point! No BS !!
Glad you like them!
Scales 'N Tails, cool prouct name. Materials just keep getting better!
Just started fly tying and I’m now getting into the streamer phase. I don’t have many materials but I make for what I have. Thanks for the amazing video Brian.
That's some cool materiel Brian. Nice demo!

That's super cool material. It can easily replace so many other different types of materials. I can't wait to try it out!
I'll have to check those out, was making a trip to KC and stopped by a Bass Pro and they had a bunch of those but I just grabbed a some of MFC's barred schlappen
I love the color options
Great video, Brian! Material looks very promising.
That stuff looks awesome!!! Can think of so many applications for it!

Brian… you make it look so easy!! The material looks great, and yes , MFC seems to be making some BIG changes. Almost like they are under new ownership, or management, or perhaps landed some substantial private equity backing, Love, Love their stuff.
They do have new ownership
Looks like good stuff Brian I'm thinking that's going to make a whole bunch of other material obsolete. Keep the good stuff coming buddy.
Love the new intro. Can't wait to see where this goes. Looks next level for sure.
Appreciate it!
Mine should be here today!
I will be interested to see more fly tying videos with this material! Curious to see how well it will work mixed in with some marabou on some woolies......Might be a decent wing material in place of elk hair on some caddis???

That product looks good. I'm super happy to see MFC is using biodegradable packaging. Can they do the same with fly tying materials too?

Way cool! I can't wait to get my hands on some.
You should!
Awesome stuff and can't wait to try it out.
Awesome colors! I can see how my craft fur baitfish can get a different look with this product. Question: what do you think about the length of the product in the package? Easy to measure and use without a lot of waste?
Totally depends on what you are tying. There is waste in all materials, but when you get used to the lenght the waste gets cut down quite a bit.
I just learned about this company at Cabelas and damn, their products are affordable and great. Thier beads in particular are very well priced.
Cool stuff, great like I need more materials 😂
You and me both!
Looks like a fun material. I never liked craft dur much but this looks a lot better.
Can you use it for hollow tying!! Excellent review of pros and cons! Put me on the list for pre-release materials!!! I'm gonna try it on some larger Bass streamers!! Thanks again and keep the great videos coming!

I don't think this Scales 'n Tails would grind down well for dubbing at all.
Make a slit length wise in the middle of the package and pull a little bit at a time ,work for zip ties give it a try
Brian, awesome video and can’t wait to try this out! Question. I’m looking for a jig/slotted bead combo to replace just doing dumbbell eyes for clousers. Do you have a suggestion?
