I was a hydraulic mechanic on the C-123 in Vietnam in 1969-70, Flight Controls, Landing Gear. Was not a pretty airplane but a great flyer. The ground troops sure love to see them coming in full of supplies. The turbines were J-85 jet engines. I loved working on this airplane. Easy to get to every thing.... well easier than a jet airplane, that is. Love the build. Great job. Great persistence and patience. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you very much Tom for you kind words and for sharing your memories 🙂 It's really wonderful to meet people along the way who have worked with the Provider or flown it. However, please excuse me if I do have to disagree with you 😉 because I love the shape of this machine and think the Bookie Bird is sooo beautiful with its voluptous curves 😍 .. and I really hope that my Provider also flies as well as the original ☺
You really mastered all of those mediums. I built RC planes in high school but never, ever thought we would have cnc routers, 3d printers, and laser cutters in our homes. What an amazing time to be a hobbyist.

Each build was better but covering with the frame with included fraile tissue was challenging to say the least! I have not built with sticks in 40 years, but your video has inspired me to get back to it! Your words at the end were quite humble, point on, well grounded and inspiring! Thank you so very much for sharing this with us! May I add you did a very nice job with the video and a most amazingly excellent job on the construction itself! Bravo Sir, Bravo!
Many, many thanks for sharing your memories Michael ☺ I used to build Guillows models myself and still love these filigree models. I also have a kit of an Avenger from Guillows lying here, which I still want to build. After such a big project I need a break and want to go back to my roots. These wonderful little models are a very special challenge and a wonderful way to fill lifetime with joy. 😍

Gillows, that takes me back in time. I was born in 1952. Pactra Dope fumes & Ambroid Glue. I built a beautiful Gillows Bristol Bullet - the tissue job was perfect - I just did not have the courage to fly it. I put it on the top of my dresser drawers & departed for Embry Riddle for college & flight training. When I came home for a trimester summer break, I almost cried. The sunrise every morning used to shine through my bedroom window & the beam would pass over my model. Well, it warped the upper wing & separated both ends of the wings from the outer wing struts - it was impossible to fix. I tried every trick in the book to warp it back into place with no joy. The last time I saw it was 1975 when I came home from the U.S. army. Those Gillows models were delicate. Your model in this video is beyond awesome; it is pure artwork...! It takes super human patience to create a model aircraft like yours...!!! If I had created a model aircraft like the one in this video - I'd be strutting back & forth in my hobby shop patting myself on the back...!!! Count on this comment as a pat on the back from an old Gillows model airplane model maker...!!! 😊
I remember building balsa models with my uncle when i was 7 or 8. watching this brought back memories. and now you can design and build from home. i can not wait to see the final product and under power. thank you
Thank you very much Captain Gary, also for your kind appreciation 😊 I have had a few sleepless nights, depending the nose gear. But it works, at least on my workbench 😄 By the way, I made a video of the design of the landing gear doors. Did you noticed it: ua-cam.com/video/S7gaqClNBjQ/v-deo.html

Thank you Chuck for your really kind appreciation and for sharing your memories with us. It was certainly an exciting time for you back then 1981 and if I got the chance, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to fly along as well. But I would prefer not to jump off 😅The next clip will be shorter again and show the "Paintjob". I'm still working on it.
OMG… for someone not trying to better than others your accomplishment is outstanding!! Not only is the design and build of the plane is incredible but the video is superbly done ! Very impressive !!
Many, many thanks for your kind comment and compliments. I am very flattered. I thought that such a unique project also needs a decent digital legacy and have also put a lot of time into the video. I hope to take some more time soon for the 2nd part as well. The machine is already finished ... but not yet flown.
I am sure that the flight was a special experience. If I were given the opportunity, I wouldn't hesitate for a second either. However, I fear that a still flying exemplar like "Thunder Pig" will not visit us in Germany 🤥
Best wishes to your grandpa 😀He does everything right. Do-it-yourself is an art ❤I have been building model airplanes for decades. Only from blueprints, always from wood, with a jigsaw, a cutter and a lot of sandpaper . In my mid-50s, I spend all my savings and started completely new again. Welcome to the future. I love it.

Many thanks and I'm really happy to hear that and if the video had a good purpose, it was hereby fulfilled. Wood has been true for decades and still is today, a wonderful material and light and strong when used properly. We already live on a plastic planet, we don't need to make it worse 😉
Well Lars as a Race Car builder with many cars under his belt, I know more than most how difficult it can be when building things from scratch! It’s always that last little bit that takes the longest, what I call the “jewelry” all the little things that take up so much time! You have done a great job so far!
Thank you Michael. As I finally mastered Fusion a dream came true. Anything we can imagine, we can now build. Wishing all the best for your projects 😃👍

Thank you very much ☺ and yes, love is a very important component. Whether you have patience or not ... after such a project you have them in any case 😄
Thank you so much for your kind comment. The machine is now ready, but unfortunately it has not flown yet. In fact, it is much more difficult to overcome me to take this machine to our airfield. I think I will need some more time to take this step 😏
Thank you Wayne for your kind comment. fortunately only a scar reminds me of the accident and I can use all 10 fingers for tinkering again. It's hard to believe how difficult life is when you're missing a thumb 😆
Hi Victor, thank you .. register easily on RCScalebuilder.com and look in the "Scratch Builds" Forum. There you find my thread "My Fairchild C-123 "Provider"- 1:12 Scale"
Awesome build of an incredible aircraft not many people know about, now we just need 11 more to have the whole plane. Thanks for sharing, you have the patience of Job.
Thank you for you kind words even if I don't understand all of your comment. But am appreciative the attention and your nickname speaks volumes 😉 I hope that this machine will not fall into oblivion and that the last flying exemplars will tell the story of what she experienced. It definitely deserves its place in the ancestral gallery of beautiful transport machines.
Lars, Congratulations on the fine work you have accomplished. Work and discipline have gotten you to this point, and you should be proud. This is an inspiration for me personally and for my upcoming project.
What a wonderful journey through your explorations and evolutions through various technologies to create parts in several materials. Troy McMillen is printing whole, large models, some with two hundred hours of print time! What next?? It is a wonderful model of a very interesting subject. Danke sehr!
Thank you Robert for your kind comment. I am an old woodworm and love working with wood. But I also want to use modern techniques to reduce the effort and dirt and to get a better result in the end. There is always something to optimize☺
Really enjoyed the part about the tail piece! Lets mill it, no lets 3D print a mold, no lets just 3D print it! Happens when you have too many tools available haha
HaHaHa 😄 Thank you so much lasse, that you noticed it. It's also one of my favorite parts in this clip. You don't want to know how long it finally took me to make this part 😂 But I really learned a lot 😉
That is awesome. You are way better then you give yourself credit for. You have way more patients than i could ever have. Can't wait for the next installment.
Thank you Fengnian for your interest. The landing gear is a unique design and custom made by a Czech friend who is a Mechanical Engineer. He has also has the necessary tools. The design is not for sale but I will contact him and ask if he has possibilities to accept orders.
Thank you very much for your kind words ☺ I can strongly recommend the channel of @RCCAD2VR It took me many month, but the Fusion tutorials of Terrance have paved the way for me 😀
What a master build! that airplane make me feel like childhood dream! i saw some rc build video in youtube they almost use 3d printed exterior made by pla or abs something, i dont know well about build rc but any reason to use wood in exterior? wood make cool and emotinal feeling but it maybe more weight then pla i think
Thank you JJ for you kind comment 😊 Let me say it this way .. Everyone builds with the material he can do best. To print a model you need to be able to create a perfect 3D model, with all necessary components and be a master of 3D printing. For me, there is no reason not to build in wood. We live on a plastic planet let's not make it wors 😉 but primarily I do it because that's what I can do best and wood is a wonderful material. I love it ☺❤
Thank you Gordon 🙂 I too was not born rich and have to work hard for my money 😉I have put my savings of "a few years" into this project. Others spend maybe the same amount for a two week vacation in Hawaii.
Does it shake and parts fall off like the real thing? That was the first plane I jumped out of. Much safer than being in it when it contacts the ground.
Parachuting out of a provider, these are certainly great experiences and memories 😃 I love the proportions of this machine 😍 Too bad it was only used for a few years. My machine has successfully completed its first test runs and the electric drive runs smooth as butter with virtually no vibrations. At least nothing has fallen off 😄 Let's wait and see what happens once the machine is in the air 😉
Thank you and I'm happy if my clip motivates you. A Fairey Gannet is also a really rare "Beauty" .. I wish you all the best and a lot perseverance for your project 😀👍
@@ralpharrow9377 Hi Ralph. Thank you for your interest .. I am already very excited and want to get the machine in the air 😃Still need a little patience
Hi Pablo, I am very happy about your comment 😀 and that you also build model airplanes from wood 👍 From your hometown Ecuador comes 75% of the world's balsa wood production. So you practically live in paradise 😍
Thank you very much for your sympathy ☺ I was really lucky and no tendons or nerves were injured. Nothing remains except a scar. On parties I can now always tell a creepy story 😄
Thank you Daniel for your praise 😊 It's amazing how the overall impression changes with every detail I add now, but a few months it will probably still take until the final 😌
How can I say that I love very large scale but very light weight scale rc models ? The scale flying of such these specific class of rc models is my ultimate passion.I really dont know how some day I can without drudgery professionally design and construct a very large scale but very very light scale Boeing 737 100 lufthansa with scale flying capabilities before leaving this life .
Thank you SiegFried for your kind comment 🙂and you brought up a good point. Sometimes I can hardly believe myself that I have actually come this far 😄After all, I don't do this full time 😏
What a great video, and wow, what a great project. I too enjoy building from balsa. My first RC models were a "Taxi" trainer and a "Mosquito" glider, both by Graupner (built a lot of free-flight gliders before that). Then I went on building my own designs. Today everyone and their cousins seem to fly foamies, or at least RTF models. They don't know what they're missing, building is at least half of the fun! ...Are you left-handed? Over some 50 years, my left hand has been the victim. Every now and then X-acto knifes, Olfa cutters, slipped screwdriver bits, all sorts of sharp, pointy or blunt stuff seem to find their way into my left hand, which has collected a good deal of scars as that's the one trying to hold things as they are cut, drilled, sanded, etc. You're building a masterpiece. But I didn't have to tell you that, you know it already. Happy New Year.
Many, many thanks for your kind words and sharing your memories with us. We have obviously experienced a similar growth 😉 I too have built a Taxi in my youth, of course and my first RC glider was a BETA from Graupner. The world is changing and people enjoy other things today. I guess that's always been the case and it's up to each person to decide to buy or to build. And yes, I am indeed left-handed 😄and had severely injured my right hand. The worst thing was that I couldn't tinker for a while, even though I tried, which was a pretty bad idea. There is little you can do to make it heal faster, but a lot you can do to make it last longer. 😝
Thank you very much Rocktex. I'm feeling honored 😊 Everyone can do what he wants to do, it's his time. Personally I think that life is too short to stay below your potential. Dare to do great things .. and if I fail, I stand up and give it another try
By the way, I would like to remind you all, that WD-40 is not for lubrication - as many people think - it is good for what it was designed for. For removing moisture and loosening connections. There is 15% oil there. It is 50% mineral spirit. It has to appear easily, penetrate and disappear quickly. Therefore, after cleaning, appropriate grease/gear oil should be applied. Oils for maintaining bicycles are surprisingly good. Light, low viscosity and even after wiping, they work well under load.

Thank you Wayne for your kind comment. fortunately only a scar reminds me of the accident and I can use all 10 fingers for tinkering again. It's hard to believe how difficult life is when you're missing a thumb 😆
How i can find the documentation?
In the link i dont see it
Was a incredible work, i wanna follow them :)
Hi Victor, thank you .. register easily on RCScalebuilder.com and look in the "Scratch Builds" Forum. There you find my thread "My Fairchild C-123 "Provider"- 1:12 Scale"
@@LarsBaeter where is scratch builds???
Thank you for the really kind words ☺ If my work and this video can be an inspiration, it's a great gift for me.
Hi, I've been looking for plans and even a full kit to build of the C-123. Can you help me find one. Thanks. RC. between 1/12 and 1/15
Hey Lars. What a supeb work! I salute you.
That is awesome. You are way better then you give yourself credit for. You have way more patients than i could ever have. Can't wait for the next installment.
Thank you Lon for your kind comment and I'm feel very honored 😊❤ I am already working on the sequel in which I show the finish 🙂
Extraordinary work. She's a beauty.
Thank you very much. I am also very happy that the work was worth it. btw. I like your NickName 😄👍
Speechless!
You deserve the clicks. Lots of interest for good modelling.
Exceptional craftsmanship on a beautiful aircraft subject!
Many thanks 😊
I want to buy the landing gear at 14:18 in the video. Could you tell me where can I buy it? It's cool.
Thank you Fengnian for your interest. The landing gear is a unique design and custom made by a Czech friend who is a Mechanical Engineer. He has also has the necessary tools. The design is not for sale but I will contact him and ask if he has possibilities to accept orders.
Hi Fengnian, if you are still interested in the landing gear, please write to vanek05@seznam.cz and discuss the details with him 🙂
Makes me want to get back to my models that have been waiting for me.
I would say, well go ahead and don't keep them waiting any longer 😉
Congratulation from Switzerland, wonderful realization !
very nice job Lars ! the plane and the video.
good luck for maiden !
Young boy , brilliant work .
Hello Lars,
As someone who only designs planes for the 3D printer, I can only say:
I am speechless!!
Michael
Wow this is awesome! Your a real master builder! Iv tried to design multiple planes but can never get fusion done properly!
Thank you very much for your kind words ☺ I can strongly recommend the channel of @RCCAD2VR It took me many month, but the Fusion tutorials of Terrance have paved the way for me 😀
Lars, you've done an amazing job. It's wunderbau.
You are a Master builder.
What a master build! that airplane make me feel like childhood dream!
i saw some rc build video in youtube they almost use 3d printed exterior made by pla or abs something, i dont know well about build rc but
any reason to use wood in exterior?
wood make cool and emotinal feeling but it maybe more weight then pla i think
Thank you JJ for you kind comment 😊 Let me say it this way .. Everyone builds with the material he can do best. To print a model you need to be able to create a perfect 3D model, with all necessary components and be a master of 3D printing. For me, there is no reason not to build in wood. We live on a plastic planet let's not make it wors 😉 but primarily I do it because that's what I can do best and wood is a wonderful material. I love it ☺❤
@@LarsBaeter thx for answer!
WOW ! Way above my pay grade. Really looks great ...
Thank you Gordon 🙂 I too was not born rich and have to work hard for my money 😉I have put my savings of "a few years" into this project. Others spend maybe the same amount for a two week vacation in Hawaii.
Respekt - Daumen hoch - ganz großes Kino!
Vielen Dank Michael.
Amazing work. Keep building. Following
Thank you 🙂
So what alternate timeline did the Provider serve in the Berlin Airlift?
There are builds, and there are quality builds!
Great work!
Thank you Mitsos for you honoring comment ☺
Does it shake and parts fall off like the real thing? That was the first plane I jumped out of.
Much safer than being in it when it contacts the ground.
Parachuting out of a provider, these are certainly great experiences and memories 😃 I love the proportions of this machine 😍 Too bad it was only used for a few years. My machine has successfully completed its first test runs and the electric drive runs smooth as butter with virtually no vibrations. At least nothing has fallen off 😄 Let's wait and see what happens once the machine is in the air 😉
Absolut beeindruckend.
Excellent work. Certainly motivates me to complete my scratch build, 2.75m Fairey Gannet AEW3 ! Thank you!! 👍
Thank you and I'm happy if my clip motivates you. A Fairey Gannet is also a really rare "Beauty" .. I wish you all the best and a lot perseverance for your project 😀👍
@@LarsBaeter thank you. I look forward to seeing your maiden and next videos.
@@ralpharrow9377 Hi Ralph. Thank you for your interest .. I am already very excited and want to get the machine in the air 😃Still need a little patience
Would you share the Fusion 360 drawing files?
I'm sorry but I will not share the Fusion Files.
Stunning work!
Incredible work! Im a fan to build scale models and balsa wood aircraft, greeting from Ecuador
Hi Pablo, I am very happy about your comment 😀 and that you also build model airplanes from wood 👍 From your hometown Ecuador comes 75% of the world's balsa wood production. So you practically live in paradise 😍
This is awesome. Well done!!!
Thank you Matthew 🙂
Beautifully done! Hopefully no lasting effects from the razor cut.
Thank you very much for your sympathy ☺ I was really lucky and no tendons or nerves were injured. Nothing remains except a scar. On parties I can now always tell a creepy story 😄
Master Builder .. Extraordinaire..a very well done indeed.. 👏
Thank you Russell
Only 18 minutes in and I have tears of joy in my eyes..
Thank you very much Captain Gary for your touching comment. A lot of heart and soul has gone into this project. I'm glad when someone notices it ☺
Amazing job - keep it up!
Cool build up !
Thank you Jukka 😊
Super great job. I’m hooked for the whole ride.👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much Scott and I'm pleased that you liked my clip 🙂
Beautiful craftsmanship!
FANTASTIC! I CAN'T WAIT!
Thank you very much Shelby 😊 To be honest, I don't know if I can hardly wait either or if I would rather postpone it a little longer 😄
Imagine making lil shoulders with parachutes that work and putting it on that then diving off in a specific spit where you want them to land
Funny idea Ceezer 😄 For now, I'll be happy if I get the machine ready and it flies. Then we'll see what happens next 😉
Very very cool work! I loved the wiring! Not sure why I got that out of your video...just was in awe.
Thank you Jeff 😄 In fact, so far no one has said that. Very pleased if you liked the wiring. Just like to have it neat 😉
Gorgeous model. Built well so it will fly well.
Many thanks and .. keep your fingers crossed for me 😉
Beautiful craftsmanship 👏
Fantastic work! Looking forwad to the final reveal!
Thank you Daniel for your praise 😊 It's amazing how the overall impression changes with every detail I add now, but a few months it will probably still take until the final 😌
That's awesome man. I'm starting the same long process. I'm building a 2m RC Shorts SD3-30
Hello....did you ever finish this beauty ?
How can I say that I love very large scale but very light weight scale rc models ?
The scale flying of such these specific class of rc models is my ultimate passion.I really dont know how some day I can without drudgery professionally design and construct a very large scale but very very light scale Boeing 737 100 lufthansa with scale flying capabilities before leaving this life .
realy nice build you got there lars and proud you may be she ist beatifull
Thank you SiegFried for your kind comment 🙂and you brought up a good point. Sometimes I can hardly believe myself that I have actually come this far 😄After all, I don't do this full time 😏
@@LarsBaeter looking for it when it hits the sky :) go on lars again shes a beauty
WOW!!! Amazing work!!!!😀
What a great video, and wow, what a great project.
Beautiful, thanks for sharing your work!.
Thank you very much. btw. I like your Boomerang Project. Awesome job😉👍
@@LarsBaeter Appreciate that, hoping to maiden the boomerang within the next month or so
@@meakins355 Keeping my fingers crossed for you
So cool, takes light hands to do that.
wow. great job. Never stop, think big. 👍👍👍
Thank you very much Rocktex. I'm feeling honored 😊 Everyone can do what he wants to do, it's his time. Personally I think that life is too short to stay below your potential. Dare to do great things .. and if I fail, I stand up and give it another try
WOW that's beautiful. I would love to have one. I jumped out of them when I was in the Army.👍👍😊😊😊😊
Thank you Roland. These are undoubtedly great memories of exciting times. Maybe you are one of the jumpers in the photo in the clip at 0:36 😉
By the way, I would like to remind you all, that WD-40 is not for lubrication - as many people think - it is good for what it was designed for.
Amazing job, very impresed !👏👏👏
But i don't understand how you get the master geo in 360 Fusion.
Work of art!
