I am a balsa aircraft modeler & a big fan of Guillow's kits. You did an Awesome job on this build!! I only wish more folks did this kind of modeling...the rewards are so great. Waiting to see you fly this!
I agree with you including being a balsa builder myself. I have been building mainly larger scale models but I've gotten the bug to build a few of the Guillows kits.
This is what I am talking about! I already ordered mine as the Stuka has always been one of the most remarkable and ugliest beautiful planes from WWII. I tried picking up as much as I could from the video for my own planned build as I love the balsa covering. What an innovative build!
I used 1/32 for the balsa covering and reduced the fuse bulkheads and wing ribs the same amount. The fixed gear makes this model scale and functional. Lets keep building!
Well Done Sir. I built that model in 1977 or so, made it C/L, likewise sheeted it 1/32 and 1/64 balsa. I then silk-spanned it, three coats of dope, and some masked coloring similar to the box. I powered it with a throttled Tee Dee .049 with a separate tank for extended flight time. A standard three-line setup for the throttle, and with a fourth trailing line for the bomb drop. I recently decided to get back into modeling, as I bought out an estate of model supplies, plans, engines, pretty much everything. Most will still be C/L, but with the new RC gear available I'm looking forward to getting back into using my SIG models, parked since 1991...as you can expect, some hanger rash has occurred. Again, well done.
Thanks it brought back great memories when I built Guillows. Mine was the Grumman Hellcat. But now these days you won't find the younger generation doing this cause they always have their head up their cell phone's ass all the time. I hope Hanz and Franz had a great maiden flight...
I was worried I was going to screw something up bad enough that I wouldn't be able to finished the video, but luckily I got through it OK. Thanks for watching!
Very nice build. It looks great. I like the modifications done to make it stronger and more flight ready. I bought one of these kits back in the 70's. Never got around to building it. I think I still have it stashed somewhere in the house. Should dig it out to see how it's doing.

I absolutely LOVE Guillow’s Balsa kits! I built several strictly for display back in the late 70’s early 80’s, and still have two in my stash of balsa things. But now-a-days the prices are obscenely high, out of my budget. I missed out on a chance to aquire the large-scale New Jersey (?) battle-ship, and somehow lost my large-scale PT-109 all-wood model. I love wood, and stick & tissue building. (I have an Sig Magnum and a Twister, and several smaller all-wood models I will be starting this winter. All C/L. The StuntHangar youtube channel is a big help) And I loved this build video, even though I do no R/C flying… I don’t have the co-ordination for it… too many thumbs 😎🤣
I agree the prices are getting almost too high, and for a beginner it might be a deterrent to getting into building these types of kits. There are a lot of benefits form modelling that go well beyond the hobby. Thanks for you comment!
Had fun building this one. The design of the Stuka somehow looks ugly and elegant at the same time, goofy and menacing. I think that's what makes it so interesting. Thanks for the comment!

I enjoy your videos. They have a lot of what I like. I, too, built many Guillow's kits as a boy with varying degrees of success. Do you really stick those T-pins into a plywood building board? You must have the grip of 10 men! Keep flying!
I’m not sure how you did the different colors for the wing camouflage. I see you cut one color of the tissue to the pattern you wanted and attached it to the wing. The second color , was it cut to an exact matching shape? Or do the edges overlap? Did you cut the two color sheets together, then attach them separately to the model?
I used monokote heat shrink covering on this model. It's available at most good hobby stores or online. The framing has to be strong enough to withstand the shrinking so it has to be reinforced on a model of this small size. The monokote covers the whole model then I masked off the camo pattern and used spray paint for the second colour. I used a clear matt spray to even out the finish. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!
Thanks! Yes this was a challenge. I probably skipped over some stuff in the video, but if you have any questions I'd be happy to let you know how I worked it out.
@@punkworkschannelheck yes man! Okay, so how did you rout the aileron cables? Is that oracote you painted over? And that frsky received, did you program it to help keep things stable?
Ya, the aileron cables are tricky because of the bent wing, just try to keep any bends in the cable to a minimum. I used MonoKote and then spray paint form the hardware store that sicks to plastic, then decals and then some clear matt spray. No stabilization programming in the radio. I did find that the prop was probably a bit too large and it caused torque roll when hand launching. Hope that helps for now.

Hey! Excellent build as usual - I did have one question though- how did you do the panel lines is there a hack or did you just draw them on with a sharpie?
Yes, I used a fine tip sharpie. I used a clear matt spray finish on this model but I drew that panel lines after the spray. I did a test with the spray over the sharpie and it caused the lines to run. Tip: I used a short piece of plastic packing strap (the kind that comes with heavy items shipped in cardboard boxes) as a flexible ruler to draw straight lines around curves surfaces like the fuselage and the upper part of the wing.
My plan was to sheet it in 1/32" but I can not find any balsa sheeting anywhere. I sanded down the fuse bulkheads about 1/32" and cut new notches for the stringers to keep the fuse diameter about the same with the sheeting. I found a block of balsa for about $15 and cut sheets from that on my table saw. The thicknesses turned out not uniform so just sanded them down once i glued them in place. No washout, we'll see how she flies. Thanks for the comment!
This particular kit has stamped cut parts with only a few laser cut parts, A lot of their other kits I think have been updated with laser cut parts.@@henningdammann-emden
I see that you didn’t paint the historically accurate swastika on the tail. Thank you. I wouldn’t either. The history is still too recent and too relevant. Maybe in a few hundred years.
I bought this kit at my local hobby shop not that long ago. I guess they are still producing it, and yes they are getting more expensive. I think the balsa shortage right now might be affecting the prices somewhat. Thanks for watching!

Yeah, I'd be afraid to fly it too.
Check out the maiden flight video!
Where can you get swastika decals to complete the model
Just trying to make fun videos not really historically accurate models. Thanks for watching!
From the ju-87 stuka balsa how to make is the real history
Thanks for watching!
So I'm guessing it doesn't actually fly?
Guess again. Check out the maiden flight on my channel. Thanks for watching!
How long did it take to build?
As with any project, longer than expected. In my spare time over a couple of months. Thanks for watching!
Did ya fly it?
There is a maiden flight video on the Punk Works channel page. Thanks!
I wanted to be his kid!
Thanks for watching!
Where's the swastika gone?
HOGAN!!
Really enjoyed this video. Can't wait to see it fly! Did you sheet it with 1/32 or 1/16? Any washout?
My plan was to sheet it in 1/32" but I can not find any balsa sheeting anywhere. I sanded down the fuse bulkheads about 1/32" and cut new notches for the stringers to keep the fuse diameter about the same with the sheeting. I found a block of balsa for about $15 and cut sheets from that on my table saw. The thicknesses turned out not uniform so just sanded them down once i glued them in place. No washout, we'll see how she flies. Thanks for the comment!
Notice the boxart shows a Swastika..it appears your build is unfinished.
Hogan!
@@punkworkschannel do it right
Glad you didn’t put the swastika on it.
This video doesn't have any real historical value, so no need, just a fun hobby. Thanks for watching to the end!
@@punkworkschannel Are the balsa parts laser cut now? I know these kits from 40 years ago.
This particular kit has stamped cut parts with only a few laser cut parts, A lot of their other kits I think have been updated with laser cut parts.@@henningdammann-emden
Shame these video show no flight
Thanks for watching! There is flight video on my channel page of this model.
I see that you didn’t paint the historically accurate swastika on the tail. Thank you. I wouldn’t either. The history is still too recent and too relevant. Maybe in a few hundred years.
I'm not making anything educational or historically accurate, just having fun. Thanks for watching!
Can it be made a static model?
Sure! The great thing is these kits are easy to customize to build any way you want. Thanks for watching!
To afraid to fly it ? Looks like it's really over weight
It'll make a good video if crashes. We'll see... Thanks for watching!
Wait, is that kit still being produced, the same as it was like 50 years ago, except now it costs $108.99??
Great build, by the way!
I bought this kit at my local hobby shop not that long ago. I guess they are still producing it, and yes they are getting more expensive. I think the balsa shortage right now might be affecting the prices somewhat. Thanks for watching!
Very nice!
