  • We discuss key points with the chief engineer regarding the brand-new 2024 Toyota Tacoma. This truck borrows many improvements from the Tundra and Sequoia yet keeps the old-school charm alive. While the mid size truck world has changed, the Tacoma is trying to win over Chevy Colorado, Nissan Frontier, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and Ridgeline fans.

These are starting at $50K for the absolute base model now and, with inflation and all, the base truck will be $49,997 beaten hard with issues in 2038. You'll make $30k more than you do now, but rising cost of living will leave you at net loss and even further from affording something like this. 11:15 I think the nickle hybrid idea is really smart. Hybrids are better but they are more costly.
The nickle helps lower costs and maintains performance in high torque environments unlike the eCVT transmission

I had a 2019 manual TRD off road until recently, and my biggest complaint about the drivetrain is the lack of low to midrange torque-it was really pretty gutless unless you revved it out. Not exactly what you want in a truck, especially when towing. I think the turbo 4 will be a better fit.

2017 TRD Sport 6MT owner for 7 years. Don't mind revving it out, the point of the manual transmission to be engaged. Most performance being available past 3K rpm is what keeps it interesting.
I do understand that automatic Tacoma owners would be frustrated.

Great review of the Tacoma, and very impressed by the suspension upgrades and plush interior. While the 2.4L Turbo might be somewhat new to the North American market, what the Chief Engineer fails to tell you is that 2.4L Turbo petrol/diesel engine birth was in the Land Cruiser petrol 22R I4 in 1981 and diesel 2L-T I4 in 1982, sold throughout Europe and Asian markets. It''s bullet proof, so North American customers are in for a real treat.
