The 2024 #Toyota #Tacoma lineup packs eight trims, two cab and bed choices, automatic and manual gearboxes, and three versions of a new 2.4-liter turbo four. The popular TRD Off-Road model now has 33-inch tires, larger remote reservoir Bilstein shocks, a front-end lift, and a coil-spring rear suspension. There are now two top-dog models: an improved wide-track TRD Pro and a new Trailhunter designed to appeal to the overlander crowd.

I like the trail hunter with the longer bed...but that sport bar on the back would be the first thing I removed...
Quoted for truth. Nwver understood those idiotic-looking and functionless bars mounted behind the cab
Facts
@@HarryKuloh Masculinity pissing contest
@@HarryKuloh I’m assuming you’re referring to roll bars. They’ve been on trucks since the late 70s. They were to be believed as a external rollcage mounted to the bed.
It’s optional.
Hope the 4Runner will have a similar update next year
Good job on this review. I have watched a few Tacoma launch reviews and appreciate the details on the different trims, and the simple but high quality production value on this. This has been the most straight forward and informative for me.
The TRD Pro looks great but the gloss black on anything but the roof has to go.
Toyota styling is always over cooked with these trucks. It screams try hard.
What do you think about the new Tacoma? Read more here: www.caranddriver.com/news/a43921921/2024-toyota-tacoma-revealed/
While these design traits contribute to their overall appeal, it's important to note that the appearance of a vehicle is subjective, and what may be perceived as "evil" to one person might be seen as bold or assertive to another. In short, Toyota crushed it yet again. I give it an evil score 5 out of 5.
Thank you Toyota for keeping the manual!
I think I'd opt for the Raptor based on what I've seen here.
I'm hoping the reliability that Toyota is known for remains. But I have my doubts now with how a turbo and hybrid will work out for the few that will take them off road. Plus that new transmission too. Maybe 5-6 years before we find out?
@@charlietango6546 They been building bulletproof transmissions. Don't see how they go backwards. I can you tell you this. I'll never touch a ford product with a 100' pole.
I NEED an online configurator
Finally a manufacturer that put a coil spring rear suspension in most of the trims. Not only that but they have ajustable shocks or adaptive dampers. Maybe the Canyon isn't the trop dog now, but the Tacoma my also have an eyewatering price. Toyota didn't have a choice, if they want to keep their share of the market they had to throw everything at it and they did including seats with suspensions. Well done.
Those gloss black trim pieces are going to be so spider webbed
If you’re cheap and don’t ceramic coal them, people who can’t afford it shouldn’t buy black cars lol
happy to see they beefed up the spindles.
ok with the 4-cylinder, but really want the prerunner paired with the manual
That grille light bar will never get approval from the "Light up only my hood at night, I don't need to see the _trail"_ light bar crowd lol
Very nice. I still like the full size TREX
Can you get double cab long bed with the manual trans?
Since these are all early, or very early pre production vehicles, I’ve gotta think that Toyota is trying to steal, or keeping potential buyers from buying one of the Chevy/GMC trucks with these early showings. The hybrid Pro and Trail hunter will not show up on dealer lots until this time NEXT year.
Hopefully the new 6th generation 4Runner or its replacement will also show up by then.
Really hoping for at least mid 25 MPG or better on the highway, where most of the trucks spend 90% of their time.
My 2016 Trd OR already gets 26-27 mpg. Throw some good additives in the truck and it’ll treat you very well.
I saw in another video, that the full reveal, complete with all specifications and prices, is supposed to be sometime in November.
There is also a possibility that Toyota is thinking about offering a mild 2-3 inch lift that will be covered by their warranty, which will allow clearance for 35's.
As for the 4RUNNER, it supposedly isn't going to be teased until sometime in 2025.
I'm not happy about having to wait that long, but what else can we do?
More bevels and creases please.
Is it me, or does it have a really steeply raked, short windshield?
Camaro
@@mikewozawski1634 Ca-MAR-Ooo!
need under cameras like its big sister 2023 Lexus gx off-road
I am liking the Trailhunter...a crewcab with a 6 foot bed?
I've never owned a truck (Brit in America) and am excited for the Trailhunter!
Do British folks not drive trucks in the UK?
The headlights and grill make me think of Sid from Ice Age
The 2nd gen Colorado/Canyon would like their air dam back please. Kthxbye 15:48
Can't wait to see comparisons on all the new midsize trucks. It's going to be fun to watch!
The rest are already out, what are you waiting for
@@JulioMartinez-pc8pc I mean as in Car and Driver doing a comparision. The Chev ZR2 Bison coming out soon as well.
The interior on the Limited looks really good. I don't want any chrome though. If they offer a black appearance package, that might be my choice.
Toyota just Nailed it really hard on all other contestants of this category 🎉
can you get it without the red interior. im not 16 i dont need my interior bright red
Agreed. My orange trimmed interior in my OR is almost to much.
I saw one of these on the Toyota lot and test drove it. It was the base SR model with a 6 speed manual and the engine screeches in lower gears when you try to accelerate. Also, the price with all the forced dealer add ons is pushing $50k before taxes.
If we can get the Tail Hunter or TRD PRO for the same price as a Ranger Raptor at $56k and the Chevy Colorado ZR2 then we will have some awesome shoot outs in the upcoming comparison videos on UA-cam 🎉❤😊
After watching this Ranger Raptor wish list is a Hybrid version with the 2.7 in exchange for the High Output 3.0 EcoBoost…
I don’t know anything about this 8!Speed Tacoma Transmission but the Ranger 10 Speed Transmission with the 2.7 has been in 6 of my F150 work trucks am has been so dependable and fuel efficient…
The ranger have better suspension and a powerful engine. Also a better interior.
Where the front steel number?
TRD pro is very nice 😍👍🏼 in Red Long bed
HP and TQ of not top end motors?
release date?
I’m not a fan of black roofs but otherwise it looks good
The TRD pro looks taller than the Trailhunter. Do they have the same lift?
Seats are a little nuts in the TRD, but solid truck overall. Wonder if it'll weigh a million pounds like the Colorado and Ranger.
No prices???
These trucks seem so functional. I really like all the thoughtful touches throughout the lineup. Forgive me for going off point, but this is why Toyota should have just borrowed the drivetrain for the Supra. Very few companies do function and thoughtfulness like Toyota, or Honda.
The front/rear lockers and trail cameras on the ZR2/AT4X bring more of a draw personally. But glad Toyota is finally revamping the Tacoma so the market stays competitive.
No one is taking a ZR2 or AT4X off-road. It is all a gimmick. I never see a fleet of ZR2 or AT4X off-road. Only see Jeeps and Toyotas.
Hmmm yup this is gonna cost about $55K after dealership mark ups
The current TRD Pro cost that, these are going to be way more
@@HereForAStorm ouch! Thanks for the tears 😭 and keeping it real 👍🏼
More like $65,000 to $75,000. $55,000 will be a middle trim Tacoma.
@@KPHVAC Absolutely disgusting prices. I will keep my 3rd gen.
@@KPHVAC Please stop it! The TRD Pro Tundra cost 69K...so how on earth is the Tacoma the same price? I swear.
So cool! But Ranger Raptor better?
I'm really not a fan of relying on turbos for power. Just more moving parts. I'm going to miss the v6.
Swing and a miss by not giving us the trail hunter with the 6 speed
GM and Ford were like what's up to the mid size trucks, Toyota was like, the King is back.
The Designer's of these new Tacoma's must have been avid UA-cam watchers......many of these new design features had been modifications added to the current gen Tacoma over the last few years.... some examples; Rear tow hooks, Air compressor within the bed wall, Viper cut front bumper. Good they were listening.
The shock absorbers in the seats are slick! Until, of course Toyota learns the terrain you were in. Then you’ll get a letter in the mail that says your warranty has been voided.
What trims will come with 2 doors?
None
@@R32vdubb I've heard SR, SR5, and Prerunner.
Don't get the pro buy the offroad and get a stage 5+ from icon. You welcome.
Gata love dat floppy rear bumper 😂 watch the toyota reveal video
No, some trucks need the leaf springs because of payload not because of cost..🙄
Trail Hunter looks really good BUT. No lockers, it's a hybrid, it's not on 35s, I'm going to have to wait for aftermarket off road equipment, and that wing in the back of the cab is going to put some distance between your Alu-Cab or your AT habitat. It sucks looking at a high-priced truck and looking at all the things you're going to have to change to make it work for you.
It has a rear locker
Happily keeping my 3rd Gen. Not to mention the v6 has never done me wrong. People want Tacoma’s for reliability and off-roading. The hybrid will be a nightmare.
Toyota's hybrid tech has been pretty reliable, they're like the masters of it.
@@macaron3141592653 I agree but not for off-road application. Jarring and banging around I just don’t want to rely on it. I’m not against the hybrid aspect I just don’t think its suited to this application.
Toyota's hybrids are extremely reliable. Think about all the Camry and RAV4 hybrids working as taxis and Ubers for 300,000+ miles. The vast majority of drivers aren't doing serious off roading. It's probably not the best truck for MOAB or rock crawling every weekend.
Same! I can live without the extra power. Plus the 3rd Generation Tacoma it's in its own class of styling. It stands out apart from the Tundra, and you can easily recognize what it is. But the new Tacoma, it looks just a mini Tundra.
@@Sackmatters Toyota will probably reinforce and protect it the way they reinforce and protect the, um, rest of the powertrain? Toyota of all companies knows its audience, I think they'll go the necessary distance.
Yay!
Rear leg room is a deal breaker
Awesome looking truck, but turbos and hybrids are going to be a nightmare to work on vs a good ole basic & reliable V6. I'll have to keep on trucking with my 4.0 while they sort the issues that will surely arise.
2jz swap pending...
finally 8 auto transmission 🤔
Looks a lot more complicated than previous models, good for when it’s new but will it have the same robust reliability of old Toyota trucks?
That remains to be seen.
SO.......NO V6..?
am i the only one that thinks the tablet display is a tad too big?
Reminds me of an older Nissan frontier… not a fan of the new redesign. The gloss black top is going to get scratched so bad.
It looks similar to the new Frontier... the old one? wut?
Everyone knows if your too cheap to ceramic coat don’t do black and this hold true for this even though it’s just the roof and fender flares
Toyota should really hire some car designers. All of their products are covered in gloss black creaky plastic inside and out. I guess at least it won’t rust.
And Outdated chrome. Very disappointed.
TRAIL HUNTER DOES NOT HAVE SAME TWIN SIDE EXHAUST AS TRD PRO❗️ TAIL HUNTER EXHAUST ‘DUMPS ‘ DIRECTLY BEHIND REAR AXLE ‼️
60k Toyota
Given it’s competition (the ranger) that’s about right.
Cue the “I’ll keep my V6 the hybrid is the debil” comments. Enjoy your old truck we will buy the better looking new Tacoma. It’s a Toyota and it’s using an existing Lexus engine they didn’t just poop it out last night.
I was wondering if they would still offer the off-road model .
Support FORD, BOYCOTT in effect, STAND OR FALL?!
If the Hilux is anything like this, sign me up
Too fancy. I really liked the 87 hilux 4x4. Best little truck ever. 22R, 5 speed on the floor standard cab.
Gimmie
Chrome has been out of style for over 2o years! They blew it on the limited. Garbage.
it looks like they bought every chrome aftermarket part from the pep boys.
Did they? Limited people seem old lame road only people and like chrome.
Limited is grandpa's truck
TRD off-road, 6MT, 2xCab 6ft bed. We will wait til the stealerships greed settles. Only fools pay over MSRP.
Definitely remove that stupid roll bar
Interior looks disjointed
Toyota crushed it in design and execution. Not sure about the engine choice, yet. When in the Philippines, they have them with a diesel option. Damn our communist government.
Revealed: Toyota’s delusional dealer markups!
that tailgate will be the first thing to break. such a dumb idea.
4 cyclinder. Pass....
2JZGTE from the supra makes 320hp 315 lbft trq. This 4 cylinder turbo hybrid makes 326 hp and 465lbft. Amazing 4 cylinder if you ask anyone
@beexiong2995 not only are your supra engine stats incorrect you're comparing a nearly 30 year old engine with entirely different purpose.
Enough with the damn hybrids!!!!!!
this has nothing on the colorado/ranger.....
It has better resale value and better dependability, for starters.
@@HereForAStorm resale value because it hasn’t changed in nearly 20 years. if there’s no new models or upgrades to depreciate the older models, why would you buy new.
Measuring Reliability/dependability accross the 3 brands is like comparing a horse to a cow. They’re very different platforms, have different tech, and capabilities, and going back to my point earlier of using the same parts over a long period of time, sharing the parts with other vehicles under the same brand umbrella with little to zero innovation, so of course reliability will be on Toyotas side…but not by a large margin as media outlets like consumer reports like to tout
@@Rinker44 what you’re not realizing is that GM and ford are both trying to copy what the Tacoma is and has been for the last 40 years. Toyota simply will not be outmatched, out rivaled, or out warrantied. The aftermarket is so much larger for all of Toyotas mid size pickups comparatively. I own all of the stated brands and my Tacoma is always my go to unless I’m throwing a trailer behind me. I don’t like this new version but I’d still take it over the ford or GM and I’ve driven all three.
Ranger and colorado get one bed. 5 foot fail bed
Agreed. Especially the Raptor. Nothing says try-hard like Toyota truck design.
I will save ten years so I can buy this model 😂
