  • This is the Energica Eva Ribelle RS and this is a big first for me...it's the first time I've ridden an electric motorcycle and thought:
    "wow this is a motorcycle, that's electric". It's no longer a strange attempt to be a bike. It's solid, handles like a bike should and blinking heck it brings smiles! With instant torque propelling you to 60 in 2.6 secs it's like a legal high!! Here's my technical review of the Eva Ribelle RS from Energica.
    More to come once I've done more riding, stay tuned for video part 2.

    Having a 2017 Eva myself, I think Energica is making real progress on their electric bikes. 2020 new battery, 2021 new engine. They're the 'leader of the pack' on electric motorbikes (in my opinion).
    I still use my - already 'vintage' - eva on a daily bases. No problems with the battery or charging whatsoever. And with fastchargers popping up everywhere, no range anxiety either.
    Thanks for the review.

    Nice review, key considerations for me are price, mileage and performance when I look at buying and don’t think I’d be ready to pay the current asking price for these. It’s fast to 60 (top speed is kind of irrelevant but note it’s limited) but it’s still limited on overall range (circa 120miles) which just makes me feel it’s very expensive for something I would use for commuting rather than for going somewhere. I routinely travel for 3 hours and cover 180 miles on motorway, but certainly moving in the right direction for the future when electric will really come in to its own.

    About the charging speed: at the AC chargers she is standing in front of, the Energica only charges at 3 kW. So 80% charge takes at least 3 hours. Only on DC (CCS) chargers, the bike charges at 20+ kW, you can charge to 80% in 30 - 40 minutes.

    Awesome video.
    I've test ridden one of these, but, I don't think it was the RS version.
    It certainly was a lot of fun.
    I see a lot of people talk about the lack of engine noise being a big factor in disliking electric but it makes up for it in so many ways.
    The instant power is crazy, it's so easy to accidentally rocket past the speed limit effortlessly.
    I tested this back to back with the Zero SR/F.
    If I had to choose I'd probably go Zero, even though it's far less powerful.
    I found the Zero was nearly silent which was surprisingly nice.
    The Energica does make quite a loud squeal, which I just found annoying, would definitely need some good ear plugs.
    Of the 3 electric motorcycles I've ridden the Livewire is my favourite.
    But, I'm not really a sportsbike kind of person, I don't like the forward position.

    • @evolv.e

I moved to an MG ev car a year ago and at the moment I'm happy to burn fuel in my z 900 rs but I'm getting more uncomfortable with it. No car or bike what ever powers it is environmental friendly but If we are going to choose personal transport and enjoy two wheels then electric make the space we travel through a little better.

    Nah, not my style (I'm more into retro style, like the SuperSoco TC) and also not in my budget.
    And I don't really like the sound the electric bikes with a middle motor and a belt make. I own an electric scooter (Vespa style, not a little kick scooter) with a hub motor and that feels like riding a cloud because it's really silent. Unlike this strange whine from those belts.
    The fast charging at car chargers sounds interesting, though, as well as recuperation. I hope more bikes come out with that. The majority of bikes currently only charge from 230V and there's almost no public charging stations for that (so, no way to charge while on the road) and also it takes a long time.
    Little technical detail: ALL batteries are DC (you seem to imply that other bikes' batteries were not DC and that that's the reason they can'tcharge from the car charger). Whether you can charge from a car charging station depends on your charging circuit/BMS. But batteries are always DC.

    • @TheFeldhamster
      @TheFeldhamster 2 роки тому

      @@rickrides8352 idk why they claim that's retro? Yes, it has a round headlight but the rest - fairings and "tank" - looks like any modern naked bike. And 20K+ Euro... seems we have to wait another 5 years or so for prices to come down or stick to the Chinese brands for now.

    • @rickrides8352
      @rickrides8352 2 роки тому

      @@TheFeldhamster Energica stated that the SS9 is a merge of 'the future and Italian tradition'. Compared to the Eva/Ego the looks are different.
      And the pricetag is equal to Ducati for example - with the same components on board as a Ducati has. And no, those are not cheap. And not Chinese either.
      13.4 kWh Energica's are becoming cheaper now, esp. since the introduction of the 21.5 battery. Mine will sell for 13.5 K euro's now (and yes, that hurts a little).

  • @timwhite3250

    I’m struggling to see the compelling argument for electric motorcycles. Riding a bike surely is about the feedback you get from it isn’t it. Is the engine not a large part of that? Whether you like singles, twins, triples, 4’s or 6’s it gives us a feeling. Now with ever more increasing traffic on the roads (UK) and thinking safety, surely as much “feeling / character” that can be achieved at the lowest speed possible has to be a positive, and just saying that wow this bike is awesome because it accelerates so fast...mmmmm I’m just not convinced about this being the right thing. I’m sure it does have awesome accel, it’s an electric motor.. it will do that, that for me does not make something that I can be passionate about over time. It makes a good test ride mind 🤔. Range, I ride till my low fuel warning comes on then fuel up, so with 40miles there about still in the tank. When electric vehicle companies state range I do wish they would take reserve into account. I.e we don’t ride to empty. Now all this is with the caveat of not having ridden one so the final verdict is open at the moment but nothing at the moment is making me want to own one of these machines before I’m forced to when if nothing changes I’ll not bother I think

  • @jameshunter2993
    @jameshunter2993 Місяць тому

    Are you for real 3 yr warranty on a battery. That's how long they expect it to last. You going for a 30 minute coffee with your friends depends on finding a working charger, a fast DC charger, and waiting in the que to charge. In conclusion no warranty on a petrol tank recharge time 3 minutes. Longer range don't have to replace my tank after 3 years and what does a replacement battery cost. A thousand recharges....would you buy a 2nd hand EV bike. Also new bikes very overpriced.

    • @andyrobinson2493
      @andyrobinson2493 2 роки тому +2

      This is not the case and a common misunderstanding. The demand on the grid is lower now that it was 10/15 years ago as white goods and lighting has become more efficient. In reality people do not fiill up with fuel at a certain time of day and we don't charge cars and bikes at the same time which probably would cause blackout issues. Home solar generation and industrial battery storage spreads the load. Full ev adoption is years away and the national grid and profit driven power industry's will make sure your fears won't come true. I own a 900cc and have no problems burning fuel in it for now but neither of us will be able to put fuel in if the petrol station is in blackout to.

If you watched Vanessa's last video with the Triumph both that and this video seem orchestrated and little more than a promo and/or sales pitch. There's a common theme with manufacturers these days, and days of old really to get reasonably popular influencers and pay for travel, accommodation and the like for exposure and so called 'reviews'. Accordingly this can make being objective/unbiased a little awkward and requires a moral code to be fair and impartial. The bike is not my thing whereas Vanessa is suitably impressed and I of course totally respect that. Each to their own.
