It's a shame that the only thing most of the younger fans know Ole for is being called grumpy and miserable by other wrestlers, and have no clue about what a great in ring talent he was, and how his booking of the Georgia territory is arguably the best wrestling has ever seen. He drew money wherever he went and he retired financially secure. He had a great mind for the business when wrestling was still wrestling, and he lived for the business.
@@shambalaninja3086 One of my favorite promos of Ole's was after the Horsemen broke Dusty's leg. He starts out " I didn't come out here to do any yelling or hollering, Rhodes you better get out now..." It was just his delivery.
Loved watching Barry back in the NWA. He was so smooth especially for a big guy. That running lariat was awesome! The greatest faction ever was when he was in the 4 Horsemen in my opinion.
Barry seems to have an honest memory. I would have liked to hear about being one of the few babyfaces that bladed, and about if his dad "smartened" him up as a kid or worked him like Jake's dad did.
Ole Anderson was an Original Member of the four horsemen, And it’s very hard to duplicate the original, but when they got berry it took them to a different level and by far my favorite group of all time
I liked Ole's promos. He and Jody Hamilton were obviously smarter than most of the other wrestlers. They could smolder without screaming, but because they held back most of the time, it was really powerful when they blew up. It's a shame that today's wrestlers ignore the old masters who maybe couldn't do high-flying moves, but they could keep people buying tickets and watching TV every week.
@@mkl62 I met Bolt when I worked at the Fulton County courthouse. He was not in trouble...nice man. He apparently got taken advantage of in wrestling and was talking about writing a book about how a wrestlers union would have been a good thing for him. And that was before WWE was a monopoly.
@@billgrabbe9992 True. Many of the wrestlers from back then can probably tell stories about how they got cheated by promoters. I've heard Abdullah the Butcher talk about it. One story that I heard was that the night he won the Georgia Title, Tony Atlas wound up sleeping in his car because they didn't pay him. When he was the NWA World's Champion, Lou Thesz always got the number of tickets sold at the cards he was on and made sure that each wrestler was paid fairly. One promoter that struck me as being honest was Don Owen, the Pacific Northwest promoter. He treated each wrestler that worked for him fairly. In WWE, Jesse Ventura tried to get the wrestlers to organize. Hulk Hogan ratted him out to Vince. Vince didn't fire him, but he got pushed down in the pecking order.
Ole was an original, no doubt. But Barry took the group to a new level. He was the absolute best man for the job and a massive gain for the stable. Still my all time favorite: get well Barry!
much respect to Ole, he never gave an inch . . I know we all wish we had his fortitude. how many people would continually get knocked out by Black Jack Mulligan and keep coming back for more? 😂
Love Barry Windham and Ole Anderson. At one time Barry was the best worker in the business I feel. For people not familiar with the territory era and the products then they can't really give a good assessment of Ole Anderson. Ole in his prime was great in the ring and one of the best promos ever regardless of the era. Lots of the common things people knock Ole for in WCW weren't even his doing either.
Yep. I got to experience his debut in Florida, run as tag champs with Scott McHee and his run as Florida State champ. Him and Dusty were a great pairing, his feud with Dick Murdoch and Bobby Jaggers were badass too.
He was wrong in his 2012 speech when he said he and his dad are the first son/dad combo in the hall of fame, because Bret (2006) and Stu (2010) were the first ones and for 2 years already before he said it in 2012.
Barry should have been. The 4 Horseman with Barry far superior to the Ole, he could not build up the opponents the way the HOF ones. Also insulting Vince's wife is not a smart move
Very very few heels have ever been able to get the kind of heat Ole would get. One of pro wrestling all time great villans, and one of the sharpest minds ever in the business. Ole knew that he and Vince would never ever see eye to eye on anything especially after black saturday, so why waste his time accepting any offer from WWE? Why bother going there?
Ole had his problems with Flair, Tully and Vice the Dick of the WWF, I can see why he just as well said screw it. Ole was a grump, but he was wrestling through in through
Barry showing why he was never a top guy. He seems like a good guy, but not engaging or entertaining. James is having trouble getting more than a sentence or two at a time out of him.
Considering all of Ole's contributions to the wrestling industry. It's a shame his nasty attitude has kept him from being honored by his peers. He'll go down as a nobody in the wrestling business. His own peers have nothing good to say about him.
I have to disagree, Ole will go down as one of the greatest heels to work the Mid Atlantic and the Georgia territory. Ole's heel turn on Dusty in the Omni is probably greatest heel turn in the business. After that riot, some counsel members wanted to put a end to pro wrestling in Atlanta.
@@Wadzillia Then there was the turn on Dusty in September 1985. Flair, Ole, and Arn had to literally fight their way back to the dressing room. Arn recalled getting hit by a battery. Then they had to wait inside because fans had surrounded the building and were waiting to attack them. Ole got stabbed in 1976 in Greenville, SC and Arn got sliced in the back in Dothan, AL one time.
Nobody really cares about his work. When most of your peers have nothing good to say about you, thats telling. He was only known in the south, not worldwide or all across America
@@brownmut5518 No. I have to disagree with that. He and Gene had become regulars on Georgia Championship Wrestling. December 1976, WTCG (Turner Communications Group) became WTBS (Turner Broadcasting System). With cable TV coming into the mainstream, Ole & Gene were being seen across the US in major markets. At one time, they held both the NWA World Tag Team Titles and the Georgia Tag Team Titles. Plus promoters from all over the US would occasionally send their top wrestlers to Atlanta to appear on GCW, giving them national exposure. Fans across the country became familiar with them, along with Mr. Wrestling #1 & #2, Dick Slater, Abdullah the Butcher, Tony Atlas, Tommy Rich, Pak Song, Ricky Steamboat, and Thunderbolt Patterson.
The WWE Hall of Fame has nothing to do with being honored by his peers. Its not even a real hall of fame. It just a system for making money off retired wrestlers.
Best group of 4 Horsemen was with Barry sound group of technical wrestlers...all held titles each worthy of them.
Love the Barry Windham interview. One of my all time favorite wrestlers. Good job.
Yeah was a good get

Ole is one of my favorites and I love he was a grump and a grouch.
Edit: changed grouchy to grouch
I will never forget the time The Four Horsemen kicked sting out me and my brothers we would rewind it and watch it again Ole Anderson made it awesome

one of the greatest, if not the greatest, heel turns of all time.
Ole said he couldn’t use Hulk Hogan for anything and Hogan was the shots 😂😂😂

Ole was a great talker, The Minnesota Wrecking Crew was a great Team
Original 4 Horsemen were awesome.
Windham version of the Horsemen had potential.

Read Ole's book. If you're a good worker & punctual, you'd be on his good side.
I liked Ole, I mean ffs not everyone needs to be Sunshine & Rainbows folks
Great worker. Loved watching him work in Florida. The Kevin Sullivan/Windham feud hooked me.
Barry is My Favorite Horseman
Ole was Legend! Barry was great too.
I love how Ole is the stereotype of what every young person expects a boomer to be

He has consistently turned down The WWE For like 30 years now! He's Consistently Grumpy! 😂
He was really pissed at The Briscos for selling WCW to Vince.

After watching interviews of so many legends, I must say Bill Watts and Ole are difficult customers
Oh that's obvious
I get the impression they weren't too likeable
Why would Ole want to have anything to do with it? Ric completely ruined their legacy.

Why has nobody asked Barry about the street fight with Doom and who was the toughest he's faced...... Come on somebody
His voice sounds remarkably similar to Ted DiBiase's.
