To me, the Horsemen were never the same post-Crockett era. Those first 3 versions were great (Windham version being my favorite followed by the originals then the Luger version). Every version after that was a shell of its former greatness.

100% fact. I've always felt the same way. The only TRUE version of The Horsemen to ME is Ric, Tully, Ole and Arn. 2nd being Ric, Tully, Arn and Luger. Last but certainly not least the version with Barry. Any other version is a fake, pathetic, copy of the Horsemen (Remember "Horseman" Paul Roma, people?).

I used to love watching Mr. Blanchard defend his television title. He had such a "selling" style. He could wrestle with the best of them yet he could sell the crap out of getting by by the skin of his teeth. Those were such wonderful times to be a wrestling fan. Especially in 80's when I still thought wrestling was 100% real.

Tully played the “chicken$hit heel” role as well as anyone. He was the ultimate heat machine whose mere presence got the fans angry and riled up.

@@MortonT1958 Well said. I mean I hated the horsemen yet as a kid I still had something in the back of my head that respected or was in awe of them at the way they performed on the mic and in the ring. It was so different than WWF. There was an edge that made things so exciting. I liked both organizations but I loved NWA/WCW. However where I lived it was primary a WWE territory on TV. I had to seriously play with my family TV rabbit ears to tune into the Baltimore stations to watch NWA.

The version with Barry in ‘88 was the best version of the group overall I think. I mean Ole was part of the original group and he definitely had a real mean streak to him that none of the others could really measure up to. But I still think that Windham made them the best. Pretty much everyone seems to hate Luger as a Horsemen. However I think he gave them that element of muscle and powerhouse strength that was unique for them at the time. No he wasn’t the most ideal choice and/or fit for the group but he wasn’t nearly as terrible as he’s usually made out to be.

The Ole version of the Horsemen seemed the most lethal- like they didn't just want to win, but hurt people and end careers. The Barry version were probably the better in-ring version due to what Tully said- they could work anyone's match. Also, Arn was more seasoned, as well. Barry was younger and in better condition than the aging Ole. The Lex version was really just to get Lex over, as he had the look of gold, but was only brass in-ring. It was better when he faced Horsemen who knew how to make him look good. As they did with Nikita before that.

There's a Von Erich movie out called The Iron Claw with Ric Flair being played by Aaron Dean Eisenberg. There should be a 4 Horsemen movie, keep Aaron as Ric and cast the other Horsemen and wrestlers associated with them in the 80s. Jack Black would make a good Dusty Rhodes, Chris Hemsworth should be Barry Windham.

Great to see Tully Blanchard, if you ever have a chance,, ask him about Rapido Rodriguez and whether the modern Spanish announce guy/team was invented in Southwest championship Wrestling. Bo Bo Brazil was known the world over. There are videos where he returned to Florida in the 60’s in an interview with Gordan Solie. Ric Flair was the NWA champion. He wasn’t a star up North. Only in the Southern territories. Bo Bo Brazil had a far better career than someone who’s gimmick was cracking a whip in the ring. We all know why back in the America 60’s why a Black World Champion was unacceptable!

Yep. Roma, Luger & Pillman didn’t fit in because all three actually looked like superstars. In order to “fit” in the hrsmn, you needed to be dumpy & pudgy & look like some average joe
