Let's go back in time to 1980, I was wandering around The Wherehouse looking for something to buy, and came across the first Psychedelic Furs album (US Version) and was very intrigued, I had never heard of them or heard any other their songs, as it was before they got any local radio play, but something inside me made me buy it! Took it home and played it and was mesmerized! Still my fav release of theirs! I also saw them play at the Roxy in Hollywood on their very first US Tour....
What an intro, headphone material, couldnt believe this sound, i was 14, can you imagine, blew me away, ive got goose bumps listenhng now, i'm 50 summat!!
Yes. It fit beautifully and I as Pleasantly shocked to hear it. The next time I was in New York I had to ride around Tompkins Square on a bike listening to it in tribute
WHY India is not regarded as the Greatest Anthem of the 80's I will never understand. Everything Joy DIvision, New Order, Duran Duran, even the SIsters of Mercy were trying to do, this song went farther. Genius, pure and simple.
I 1st saw the in 1982 and was blown away By their musical Talent. They were such a part of our lives back then. And I recently saw them in Atlantic City And they blew me away again they are one of the best Bands of all time. I'm going to listen to them forever. You had to be there.
I just saw them live last night and I'm still riding that high... here it is around 40 years after I first heard them and their sound is hitting me like it did when I was 16 or 17 or however old I was. I've come full circle and rediscovering that sound again... and maybe myself again.
Yes. I like his work on the second Psychedelic Furs LP also, and on XTC's Drums and Wires, and Black Sea, and Penetration's Coming Up for Air. @@mikesabota2570
I'll never forget pulling up to the Ritz in NYC to see this new band. The line to get in wrapped around the entire block and everyone was excited to see these guys. I'd never even heard of them until I was offered one of the tickets at work...needless to say i became a.fan that night .
My fave getting ready to go out track for many years. Funny, my generally chilled out dog was laying down chilling to the intro sounds, obviously getting right into the groove as she then jumped out of her skin as the bass kicked in! She never does that!
Man, I've got to say just before it kicks in that I'd really really forgotten just how fuckin fantastic the start of this album is. Wooooow. Indiiiiaaaàh! . Best gig ever, mean fiddler harlesden
This truly is an amazing album and a band which, at least for me, has stood the test of time. I listen to them again and again, and it never seems dated or at least it never seems as if I have overrated the band earlier. Their later albums were just as good- Book of Days and World Outside were excellent. Also teh last album to come out has shown they have not diminised.
Saw these in 1984....superb¬ One of the gigs I actually cried at because of its beauty.....Although I6m not Dave, I'm Helen, his slightly less wanky (and older) girlfriend
This was the only P Furs album I ever had ... but I DID have the experience of trying to perform in a play (Indiana University, must have been 1984 or 5) with just a 'sound door' separating us from the incredibly loud Furs in the IU Auditorium (very shitty building design). Standing upstage, we couldn't hear our damn cues from downstage, cuz there was just this wall of volume coming from the left. :D A great memory, actually.
I love this album and this track in particular. I had a hifi with built in alarm that would play the cd. A great way to wake up. I do find tho that the dynamic range in my vinyl copy is much greater than cd. When the bass first comes in on vinyl it's like it's right in your ear. Because of the way cd re-mastering is done it loses that dynamic range. I recommend everyone get the vinyl version.
Love this song and this album. Bought it when it came out and have never stopped playing it, but the 2 minute plus ambient music opening to this track still seems way too long after all these years.
What a great band seen them in 1986 when they headlined Glastonbury Friday night with an amazing laser show that left me transfixed in mute fasciation a group of roughly 15-20 us was on White Lightning and we were all just blown away. We all thought it doesn't get better than this until Saturday night when The Cure headlined. That was also amazing but, for me, the Furs edged it. Other bands there were Waterboys, The Pouges, Level 42 and loads of other great artists. Slight memory block as I type. Been huge fan ever since. Weather amazing too sunshine galore. What a Festival that was.

This is how you start a debut album one of the most intense and mesmerising openers to a debut album John Ashton's guitar on this song is amazing
Quite a bass run, too.
Along with ‘I wanna be adored’ Stone Roses.
This music is the only thing that helped me survive the 80’S. Btw, I loved the way this track was used in the film “Basquiat”

This and The Cult she sells sanctuary ... Furs an amazing band

Richard Butler is a mediocre lyricist at best, nothing even close to Ian Curtis

This album rules.
Few things compare in rock and roll.
A true exemplary moment.
The sound that Steve Lillywhite gets on the drums and guitar interaction is unmatched. The space is so remote but so attractive.
You can tell Lillywhite had a hand in this as in the album Boy!!!
