Thank you mate. Unfortunately, the Land Rover is sold. The only project I’m focusing on right now is my unimog restoration which may not be as popular as the m57 swaps.. only time will tell!!
No problem mate, thanks for commenting. I can do a video about this. It’s great to drive on the motorway, I can hold 70-90mph for 200 miles without overheating 😂 I have changed the gears in my transfer case however, it was 1.2 -1 and is now 1.1 - 1 so this means the engine is doing roughly 2200rpm in 5th gear (r380) @ 70mph, hope this helps. It also has plenty of power to pull from 70 up to 90mph in roughly 5 seconds 👍🏽 As for driving, the clutch is a bit heavier but I don’t mind. Some people say it’s crazy but I don’t mind, I don’t even notice it any more. In fact, I drive a friends td5 a few months ago and his clutch was so light I thought it was broken. I like a responsive clutch. In traffic it’s great, the gearing is good for taking off even with the 1.1 - 1 transfer box It never overheats, the only time my electric fan has ever come on was a few weeks ago when we had a heat wave, the weather was maybe 32 deg Celsius and I was stuck in slow moving traffic for 4 hours. So hopefully this helps, it’s better than the original engine in every way. As far as I can see, it has no disadvantages. Some people say the ecu is a disadvantage but that’s where you get your torque and fuel efficiency from so it’s another positive for me!!
@@KeepitBigBore thank you for such a good answer! I already have M57N2 engine and GS6-53DZ gearbox from BMW. But still only at the floor of my garage)) also ordered 1.1:1 gear set in Tbox and adapter from Syncrogearboxes to mate with LT230. See what happens one day ohh)
Thankyou very much!! I’ve made a few videos since but can’t say I’ve taken it seriously. I do want to make some more though. Just putting my time and effort into more prioritised things these days 😬 thinking of buying a better camera for the next few videos as I feel like the iPhone video isn’t doing my channel any favours!!
Hi Hows everything holding up, is the R380 and LT230 holding up to the engine or has there been any more disasters. If you did the conversion again would you do anything different. Thanks.
I've had to sell my land rover, It was holding up fine while I had it. If I were to do another I would definitely use the 6 speed bmw manual, 6hp ZF auto or 8hp ZF auto. Nothing wrong with the R380 but parts for the BMW transmissions/adaptors were impossible to come by at the time of doing my conversion.
Great job on the swap, very good idea. I would just like to hear your opinion also on something. I have a 2002 Hilux i would like to do a Merc om642 v6 swap on it,how would i want to do a Standalone on an engine like that? im from South Africa seeking your advice😁
Thank you mate, I’m not familiar with the om642 but I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be possible. A lot of guys use the om606 as well, a Bullet proof engine with crazy power, would you consider using that?
Had my Td5 tipper remapped about a month since..propshaft sheared off last week at 40mph and joined my feet in the footwell...had Defender's for 15 years plus but i think its time for a Land Cruiser😋
😖😖 did you go back for your feet?? That’s the thing, I can honestly say, I’ve never invested so much time into a car, I don’t know why we do it! Are you talking fj40 cruiser or newer now??
That’s extremely lucky!!! Could have cut the ankles off ya 😂😂 What kind of work are you doing, most people consider defender’s the most capable 😳 Are you looking for pulling or reliability?
@@KeepitBigBore im a tree surgeon, reliability and some grunt, i use an old Shogun for a lot of heavier towing but i just find Defender's axles and props aren't really up to the job
They take a lot of work to bring up to strength alright. I never would have thought a shogun would be better for towing! A lot of guys are m57 swapping them so they can obviously take the abuse! I pulled a tree stump out with my defender a few months back, I didn’t want to put too much pressure on the axles while in 1st low so I tugged it rather than pulled it 😂
Hmmm sniff, sniff smell’s burnt 🤣🤣🤣🤣 better than factory Martin, good effort 💪🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
😂😂 thank you mate 👍🏽👍🏽
Hi mate, love your videos very satisfying to watch, you should keep uploading !

special thanks for 13:09 ) please more videos about using this car in traffic, motorways, etc) pleasure to hear it!
