  • Okay,it was 1976, no one was thinking of Patsy. She was far from being the icon she has been for the last 30 years. But at that time, Linda introduced this as Willie Nelsons song. the arrangement is superb with the country guitar lead, terrrific acoustic guitar and Linda's amazing vocal, esp in the closing part of the song.

It is Willie's song, and Patsy and then Linda made it amazing. The band is also incredible. We're lucky Linda was healthy for over sixty years. Sadly, all good things come to an end, and we are left with electronic dance music. Shoot me now. I have lived a life.

When Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris consider her "The Best" it is pretty hard to ignore her talent. Country, Rock, Pop, New Wave, Opera, Spanish, Classical and Big Band; LInda could sing anything. Five platinum albums in a row speaks volumes. She could sing anything at a very high level.

Patsy Cline is the greatest female country singer of all time. All female country singers know it. As did Linda. As did Shania, As did Loretta , as did Tammy, as did Faith , so did Dolly, as did Carrie, and all the others. When Linda recorded this , she undoubtedly was one of Patsy's biggest fans , and was undoubtedly hugely influenced by her in her early years. Even though she was already gone , Linda probably wanted to honor Patsy (and make a few bucks) by recording one of her biggest hits. Willie had NOTHING to do with it even though he wrote it.. All others can only wish they had a voice as strong and beautiful as she had.And by the way, as big a star as Willie became late in his career, nobody really new who he was until the mid 70's when Waylon Jennings and him hooked up. If you wan't to hear how great Patsy;s voice was I suggest you listen to Tennessee Waltz or any other original recording by her to hear for yourself .

Linda Ronstadt had the career she deserved. Always exploring her craft and bringing the curiosity, warmth, humour and tenderness to to everything she approached. Never afraid to approach her gift. Interesting that she and Julie Andrews, another magnificent voice, have been robbed of their gift by illness or medical issues and now live in a world where their recordings define them.

I absolutely adore everything about Linda Ronstadt. That voice which was both soft and powerful and her exquisite control. If anyone could cover this song by Patsy Cline it would be Linda and it is remarkable. I'm still in the Patsy camp on this one though because her version was more "old school" with the primary instrument being that beautiful piano and the backing vocals by the Jordanaires (who also worked with Elvis). That style just worked so well for the song and just isn't done any more. That said, I will listen to Linda's version any time because I'll never get enough of that voice

Ronstadt's heartbreakingly pure version of this classic brought the long deceased Patsy Cline renewed and broad attention with this 1976 recording and Linda's devastating live delivery. Cline was not well known beyond hardcore Country fans and the South at this point. Cline's voice was great but her arrangements were often Nashville Strings and cornball harmony. She is finally appreciated by all music aficionados. Linda deseves all the credit for bringimg rockers and others to alternative country sounds. And really who cares frankly?. When you can deliver the power and intimate emotion the way Linda does that is all that matters. Takes nothing away from Willie or Patsy.

Simply a classic song that defies being categorized. Timeless. Yes, it was Willie's song but nobody knew who Willie was when Patsy Cline recorded it, other than a few knowledgeable insiders. And the rest is history. Ronstadt's cover can stand on its own. When I listen to this, it reminds of an early interview of LR when she talked about growing up in AZ, listening to Mexican ballads, Country Western and rock n' roll. As everyone knows, she could do it all without sounding contrived or phony because she was the real deal...and she had the pipes. Too bad, ballad singing has gone out of style. I have loved Linda Ronstadt forever. And that's just her looks. Her singing is as fabulous as it gets. I wish I could just spell ronstat when it isn't in front of me.

Linda Ronstadt is good with this song but Patsy Cline would "sing" as of she had a tear drop in her throat. Strange to say.. but I would hear this and couldn't believe how she would linger on that tear drop for quite a spell. Beautifully done Patsy.

Catherine Lopez If Patsy sang this song as a 10, Linda is surely a 9.9. Both had powerful, strong, beautiful voices. Unlike today's female singers who can't carry a tune in a basket without the aid of auto-tune.

She was a great vocalist. Unfortunately, Parkinsons stole her voice. We'll just remember her voice as it was. This is a fabulous song, Willie wrote it for Patsy, who made it not only a hit, but an unforgettable one. Linda sang this song the same way, same vocal inflections as Patsy. Beautiful job. This is just one if those songs you can't change to make it your own. So thanks Linda and I'm sure Patsy is looking upon you and saying the same.

Linda brought us city/suburban people songs and rhythms of the country and western soul. In the 1970s few beyond more rural areas even heard of Patsy Cline or Willie Nelson. Ronstadt took these songs wide and deep. What a great great vocalist she was.

    Simply wonderful.
As everyone who appreciates good music knows, Patsy was the first to release this song on record and it was written by Willie Nelson but as to who sang it better, well that is only a matter of opinion. No-one has a right or wrong answer to that question; whatever you think matters to you and will not matter to anyone who has an opinion of their own. Personally, I would have both versions with me on a desert island because they are each perfect in their own way.

Armando Flores Yes He certainly does but it's not for everyone .
Most People would say this is Patsy's Signature Song and Most People don't like to hear others perform other Artists Sig. songs ( even if they Wrote it ) not even at " Tributes Patsy's version of ". Crazy is so embedded in peoples minds.
They just don't know or realize that When other Artists perform it it's just not the same song. I would go as far as to say Willies Version could be a completely dif. Song.
There are a few Songs that Shouldn't be performed by others THE NUMBER ONE is Jessi Colters " I'm Not Lisa " NO ONE should even attempt to record that although some have the most terrible is Tanya Tucker who CHANGED the Lyrics to " My name is Tanya ". Off Topic ! Sorry.
