I had to sell my D-05 recently, and I love the fact that I can do similar style patches with Dreamsynth (one shot sounds mixed with sustained sounds), and it’s even more complex.
I've had DS for several months, it's truly amazing for all the available virtual analog functions and presets it comes with. Of course, vast amounts of time (maybe too much time) can be absorbed into modifying and creating presets. The only other platform that even comes close is Voltage Modular (also from Cherry) which is a complete virtual rack mounted synth engine, that can be populated with myriad optional virtual hardware modules. Extremely affordable, as to buy any of this as hardware would be many $1000s. I use both DS and VM all the time to produce my various compositions.
I just bought this. If my Novation Supernova I and my Nord Lead 2 had a kid, I think it would sound like this! That's the vibe I get from the VA oscillators.
I've got a lot of Cherry's VSTs including Dreamsynth but my favourite is Elka-X it sounds amazing and regarding the GUI I'd like to see a hi-re version or at least a menu option.
Great review. I've been messing with the joy for the last few days. I am still scratching the surface. As for the CPU usage, I've run 6 concurrent instances inside bitwig on a Windows i7 without any glitches.
I love Cherry Audio products, but I wish I'd heard just one beautiful, strong sound which wasn't smothered in reverb and 'gloop'. I love FX too, but they seem to have become an excuse rather than an enhancement.
Well, I'd say that it applies to every synth. Dreamsynth oscillators and mod sources/routings are really powerful. Giving your music a final touch will always require some effect at the end, right? So, I still believe there's nothing wrong with Dreamsynth in this area!
@@FoliaSound Yes, But if it's on the preset and lots of it already it makes it way harder for me to mix the sound with other things I have going on, When I do reverb and delay seperately in my daw it's way easy to get things playing nice together. @@infesticon I immediately take off the effects for every single preset I test. It would be much better if that were the norm. I’m going to add my own effects 98% of the time.
I'm not saying it isn't a good synth, I'd just be interested to hear what it sounds like a little less swamped in FX. It's like wanting to hear a singer's voice without tons of FX; THEN you really know if they're a good singer or not ;)
CPU usage is terrible, its the one thing thats holding me back from picking it up. I find with many Cherry Audio synths if you turn off all the effects and use more cpu efficient effects you get better mileage. Thats still a pain. Im also am edge case since im using an ancient upgraded apple tower but its still a consideration since a already have so many cpu efficient synths. I also have many Cherry Audio synths but i dont use them as much as id like even though I love them.
@@FoliaSound it depends on which patch you’re using. My old CPU just cant handle them. I was getting huge spikes in Ableton which were causing crackle and audio glitches. Not all though. Some were only using 14-20% CPU which is average for some Cherry Audio patches. Im hoping to get a new computer this year which should change things.
@@umanoid1523 , I don't know how old your CPU is, but I believe it might choke on a couple of things, not only Cherry Audio ;) Wishing you a i9 beat at least!
I have several Cherry Audio synths and Dreamsynth is one of their best in my opinion. Easy to use and delivers plenty of inspiration.

On sale for $29? What a bargain! I love this company. Been using their Sines synth for awhile now and the value for money is unreal. Sounds great too.
I've been enjoying my Dreamsynth along with Cherry Audio's Sines and their newest GX-80. All great stuff.
I have the GX-80 and it's really cool. I built my own version in PureData and it turned out well.
Okie dokie, what do you think about this synth? What do you tink about my first patch for it? xD Let's discuss!
Today i have a very critical surgery and you saved my day with this Video.. Thank you for this great review! :)
Oh, man. Good luck and get back in full health soon!
@@FoliaSound Thank you so much, i hope that everything goes well!

Exactly, sir!
That's some high praise. The cherry audio stuff is always very good.

This is also a bonkers synth for a low low price. Great video!
Thanks!
Love this synth😊

Very good synth.

thanks Paul, you've made me deciding to also buy it :) !
Nice, have fun!

Nice video/Review, I love Dreamsynth long live the Sonics! :)
Thanks, James!
Nice review, is this vst CPU intensive?
Not really, you can see the CPU usage on the screen during the test :)
Hey Paul... I did download the demo, after playing with it for a while I decide to purchase it. Thanks for the review, cheers😁
Great to hear. Cheers!
Not Roland, the filter is Oberheim SEM type filter.
I didn't mean any certain emulation, I was describing my feel of the whole synth, not just the filter :)
@@FoliaSound I disagree it has quite a unique feel

It would be nice if there was a "no delay or reverb" option when going through presets. I add those things in with my daw any ways.

Interesting 👏 I’m curious.. how is the tone compared with Garageband /MainStage synth?
Don't really know that. Win user here :)
Good synth, a 24db filter and a filter for the strings would make it even better.
Yep, I actually haven't mentioned it, I was just fine with 12 dB/oct filter, but you're definitely right!

Seems like this could be a good Roland LA synthesis software alternative. Like a D-50 but with an extra 2 sound sources?
