I am currently an 8th grade AVID student, I'm just gonna give it to you straight, AVID sucks, but wait AVID has given me the skill of perseverance and responsibility. Currently i have a 100 in the class, if you just focus and get the work done then everything will be good, also you need a binder. The binder is the key to AVID. If your binder isn't organized than you've pretty much flunked the class. That's my take on AVID.
Griffin Cardwell if avid has taught me anything it’s that it is the least fun class and the most boring. Just cause you have a 100 in the class doesn’t mean that people gain anything from it. If anything I have lost self determination and confidence.
Hey can anyone help me? I’m a 7th grader and I’m being asked to join avid for 8th grade. I’m not sure if I will but I have anxiety and want to know if we speak in front of the class a lot. I hate speaking in front of people and I almost pass out and cry every time. I don’t just get nervous like others. If any one could help that would be great!
I am a 6th grader currently taking the 7th grade course in AVID, and it's not that bad. Just recently we went on a field trip to the university of Washington and we had a self guided tour on the college campus. Plenty of the kids in my grade don't like AVID, but I think that it's great, especially for people that are first generation college students because of what is teaches you but I think that almost everyone can benefit from taking the program.
Ok here's my problem. First off, when one of the 7th grade teachers gave us a presentation on AVID, (I'm in 6th) I was super excited! I mean who wouldn't want to learn about university and how to do stuff like that? Well, I have really bad social anxiety and get really scared talking in front of large groups of people, so when they talked about explaining the problems their having really made me change my mind. I simply can't talk in front of people...But I really want to do this. Can someone please tell me if I can say that I have anxiety and I can't do it? Or would I have to? Thanks!
Same I am in six grade and my teacher made me sign up since I am gifted but I have social anxiety and people make fun of me for that and now image in AVID but if I am in I'll do it as long as I get in
Emely Villalta awe I'm sorry about that! I find it best to shoot back the remarks at them, or just ignore them and go on with life. Those kids are attention seekers anyways, so don't give them what they want. Oh and I have an update, I really have no choice at this point because I got accepted. Soo..HELP ;-; (I hope I was sort of helpful! I suck at helping people but I tried lol 😅)
Iluvbegals Pup I’m not in avid yet #5thgraderlol but I would encourage you to try and you can ask if you can have someone go with you or ask if you can face the wall
Kayla Nicole lol sorry for not responding earlier! For some weird reason it didn't notify me that you answered. That actually sounds like a good idea! I'll try to get them to do that next year.
For everyone whos saying that AVID is a waste a time well... AVID is for people who really want it willing to work hard. The trf forms yea might get you scared or it might be a waste of time . I use to think that in 6th grade, now i see how much it has helped me. My class and me were very close to the point where we were honest and say i didnt have a question so i tried and they were supporting we're family. In 6th grade i thought AVID was horrible but now few years later still in AVID and I love it and understand it. Im proud because i have a scholarship on my path.
I'm currently in AVID right now as a 7th grader. I'm actually very happy to be in this class because it could give me a better chance of getting into MIT or whichever University I want to apply for. It will give me a chance to do better than my parents did. I don't slack off as much on important notes now. I can keep track of my GPA and I'm really glad I went through with the application. I'm willing to work for a brighter future. AVID can help but it's YOU who determines where you'll be in 10 years.

In middle school it’s just extra work. They make you have these binder checks so you stay organized which made me have to redo my organization setup. Also the tutorials are pretty useless just have a friend or teacher help you and explain or the internet usually helps. Tutorials are just people tryna create problems and make things over confusing until class is over and it’s so awkward. Only thing good they did was teach us how to take notes which most people already know.
my cousin is in avid and she tells me she's planning to drop out of it because it doesn't actually help you get into college it just looks good on paper
AVID is such a scam. 1) College isn’t the only pathway to a good life. In fact, college grads price themselves out the market, have a harder time getting jobs being over qualified, and end up under employed in most cases. 2)AVID is just a burden that will bring your grades down. It’s supposed to help you but it’s extra weight that’s useless. The only tutorials anyone does is math, chemistry or physics and all the AVID teachers are English teachers who can’t help haha. 3) I never used any AVID techniques when I went to my 4 year college and I still graduated in 4 years magna cum laude. Just find what works for you and stay dedicated. 4) Almost everyone I know from AVID and my college experience changed their major while in school, dropped out, or graduated from their 4 year to then go back to community college to start over. You’re young , you don’t know about money or jobs. Even if you pick your passion you will discover it might not be the best industry or you outgrow it. Take some time off after high school. Work some places and discover the world and a pathway for you.
The AVID is meant to change only if you wanna change "Advance Via Individual Determination" so is all up to you how to use this tool. So use to get ahead in life...👍
Im an 7tgh grabe and also an AVID student i have avid in my 3rd period we just organize our binder and also take notes just to remind you and study for any avid class you guys have at my school in avid we to a lot of groups of work it could also help you guys know eachother and work as a group we do a lot of activits not much of work either
They picked me for AVID but I didn't got in. I wish I got I was crying not getting in cause I wanted a better life in my future now my dream is gone but my friends went in
at my school, you have to fill out a form and show your most recent report card and if you got straight a's or 1 or 2 b's you could get in but if not, so long.. im in it and it gets me in all advanced plus a grade above me math class
I've got a question... I am in 6th grade at a middle school and they are offering AVID to any one if they get approved. They said if your parents did not go to college and your grades are the main factors of getting accepted. I myself am a A student in every grade and has a 4.0 GPA. My question is can students like me apply and get in? Or is it only for kids who have like a C or B?
I’m sure you can get in, I’m gonna be in 8th grade and avid is for everyone. Btw don’t say “am” like,” am nice” say “I’m nice” Writing classes won’t accept that.
for my school (and most schools in general) applications aren't something to stress about. of course you should take into account that you need a certain gpa but they let anyone in and if you make it clear that you need the extra help and want to go to college then you'll get in
So avid isn't all about grades, yeah it is a big chunk of it, but in order to get into avid is to have that right mindset, the applications aren't much of a stress in my experience with avid teachers. If you think your a good fit for it then give it a shot! If you are talking about the grade requirements, it's having a GPA of 2.5 or above, your avid teacher will not surprise you and say that your kicked out without notice, every semester there's usually a 1 month long probation, basically you get to fix your grades if your GPA is under a 2.5 or fix your behavior is your on behavior probation. :) for me avid is great I love community service and tutorials, from experience it really sets you up for success, but just remember you technically don't need avid in order to get into a college, but colleges are looking for avid students, so it basically gives you a better chance at collage :) as a reminder, elective are almost always your choice, choose whatever you feel you want best for yourself :)
I joined for the first year and honestly I really don’t like it but they said they’ll really help help next year cause of the big exams but I don’t know if i should join cause it seem like it’s not true
You should apply for trio it’s like avid but it’s not a class and they don’t give you any assignments they also have field trips and you can always go there for tutoring
Actually it helps test your mental strength when you have to deal with this waste of an elective. Oh yeah you have to do a lot of presentations and talking so sorry if ur a introvert
What if we didn’t want to do it and are legit just doing it to go to a good college. Or wear a sash around us when we graduate. One of the main things we talked about this year is depression and what it is. If I learned anything it’s that all that avid has done for people is make them want to drop out of the class and/or get depression. The advancement via individual determination is just a thing saying that this person put in the time and effort to do good. This is and forever will be one of my least favorite classes.
I've just been asked to be in AVID for my sophomore year and I need to know if it's for me. Can anybody tell me what AVID is really like? I've been hearing about these so called "TRF's" and how they're a pain. Any info on the matter would be greatly appreciated
@@ninjachris2344 It’s not useless, AVID is like where you can ask like your homework problems that you didn’t know and you need help with that or even a subject, nothing is really useless here
i actually just told my avid teacher that i wanted to sign up but all these comments are making me change my mind cause first of all, i hate presenting in front of people and i get anxiety so i don’t think this is for me :(
Well for me I do a lot of TRF (Tutorial Request Forms) it really does help if you don't understand something. Avid for middle school does more TRF's. We do a lot of games to after, so it isn't a hard class. It's good in highschool because they take you on more field trips for colleges and is useful if you use it right. It may be boring for many but that's if you just choose avid and don't care for it. It will help you learn more about college I would not say it preps you for college. (My opinion)
Lemon Hunter27 I’ve been in avid for 2 years and the first year was actually pretty fun, we had great teachers fun classes and the teachers we genuinely good at their job. Then 7th grade avid came and it blows, teachers aren’t fun TRF’s are a waste of time and I don’t get why u need to do them when I’m a straight a student. Field trips are pretty ok you go to colleges but in 6th grade we went to Disney land. You do college like board things that are pretty dumb and not worth the time. But overall it’s ok, I don’t like it because I’m a straight a student and don’t need help and my teacher is pretty lame
Avid isn't about your current grades it's about getting you there. I've been an avid student for 5 years. I'm a senior now. If you guys Subscribe to my channel , I'm going to upload a video on the truth about being in avid

Leave please I beg you it’s terrible there is so much you can do in school avid should be the last thing you apply for in school
I have a essay right now at 6:55 and trying to finish it by 7: 15 thats why im watching this video
ALLEN GUERRA
nah they’re still finishing
Sophomore Avid final? Same, gotta write a 2-3 page essay on the history of Avid.
This is and forever will be one of my least favorite classes.
my friends are struggling in avid-
I've just been asked to be in AVID for my sophomore year and I need to know if it's for me. Can anybody tell me what AVID is really like? I've been hearing about these so called "TRF's" and how they're a pain. Any info on the matter would be greatly appreciated
The TRFs are a bit annoying to do but AVID really helps with college stuff, keeping grades up and will give you more conference with presentations
Dill Borchardt stfu it all uselss
꧁ঔৣ.Ninjachris234.ঔৣ꧂ why
꧁ঔৣ.Ninjachris234.ঔৣ꧂what do they teach you . Do they actually show you about collage stuff???
@@ninjachris2344 It’s not useless, AVID is like where you can ask like your homework problems that you didn’t know and you need help with that or even a subject, nothing is really useless here
You ruined my life AVID and I’m still in AVID!!! Help me get out! Please please this is a waste of time!
Rage Slushie ima applying
*I have two Avid classes for my new school lol*
Avid is okay but i dont think people would really need a whole class just to be organized and know how to do proper notes
i actually just told my avid teacher that i wanted to sign up but all these comments are making me change my mind cause first of all, i hate presenting in front of people and i get anxiety so i don’t think this is for me :(
I hope this was worth it,I quit band(it was getting boring)and They put me in avid.
Edit: it was 100% worth it
HOW WAS IT
@@BryanUSG 100% worth it
1:29 ... anyone else think he looks like Dylan Minnette?? From 13 reasons why.
Yes haha 😂😂 like Clay jensen
Waste of a class period
Avid is not for advance students
cheese0 at my school you need to get qualified and you could only be advanced..
Its a scam don't do it
they made my pupils and i do this in SIXTH grade, and now we're gonna be those weird freshman with the binders :(
Melanie Rodriguez Wish u luck i heard avid is really hard in high school
I'm sad because my middle school forces us to go
My parents want me to join Avid. Can I have someone’s honest opinion about it?
Well for me I do a lot of TRF (Tutorial Request Forms) it really does help if you don't understand something. Avid for middle school does more TRF's. We do a lot of games to after, so it isn't a hard class. It's good in highschool because they take you on more field trips for colleges and is useful if you use it right. It may be boring for many but that's if you just choose avid and don't care for it. It will help you learn more about college I would not say it preps you for college. (My opinion)
Don’t listen to what anyone says it is a waste of time filled with propaganda
@@joeyp5764 we must have different avid classes. It isn't that bad for me
Lemon Hunter27 I’ve been in avid for 2 years and the first year was actually pretty fun, we had great teachers fun classes and the teachers we genuinely good at their job.
@@joeyp5764 it is like propaganda!!!!
how do we get info avid?
well in my school, we have to get an application then an interview
My school recommended me to take this class but I am not interested

Avid isn't about your current grades it's about getting you there. I've been an avid student for 5 years. I'm a senior now. If you guys Subscribe to my channel , I'm going to upload a video on the truth about being in avid
Literally all you do is TRFs
Ew, avid. Litterally binders is life to avid.
Do they give binders or you have to have one?
@@aluvvvv if you have one they don't give you one but at my school they give if you don't have it.
Its also different for some schools
I am a 7th grade avid student and I was forced to join avid and I think it’s a waste of my time
