Spokane Public School nurses Adam Phillips and Lauren Bray explain what their job entails.
It's much more than ice packs and bandages. School nurses ensure medical and immunization records are up to date, assist students with chronic illnesses and allergies, and help care for our medically fragile students. They even act as counselors when the need arises.

Some schools don’t allow nurses to give medication unless it’s order by your doctor. Which is why some nurses take vitals and do other therapeutic interventions. Ice pack is one of them lol

My school nurse gave me some Paracetamol when I had really really bad headaches and migraines, nurses do learn about medications in their nursing programs, the most basic medications and topical medications (like cleaning a wound when a kid falls and hurt their knee ) all nurses and pharmacists have the authority to do so. Moreover, Its just the most “specific” medications for complex health disabilities that all nurses/pharmacists require a note from a doctor to administer or dispense the medications.

Correct. Nurses may not administer medication without a doctor's order. That's not a "school nurse" restriction it's a "nurse restriction"

When I was in the 6th grade, I told the school nurse I was having chest pains, and an hour later, my girlfriend went in and told her she was having contractions in her lower belly. It was a hoot.

@@vivianpham9675 Yes, boys had girlfriends in the 6th grade, and girls had boyfriends in the 6th grade, however, they did not do things that grownup boyfriends and girlfriends do. It was more like exchanging St. Christopher medals, which I don't even think they make anymore, and then you were an item. We certainly didn't have sex. Oh, and at the school proms, we were mildly exclusive in choice of dance partners, but that's about it.
We did not have sex until around the 8th grade.

@@somemong8349 the drugs that they use are highly looked down upon becuse there a stimulant for example adderal whitch is amphetamine and is close to methamphetamine but they help with people that have severe adhd or mild adhd
