  • 📅 19th Jan - Welcome to the 4th episode of #PotToPickle, a series of grow-a-long, back-to-basics video tutorials for the novice urban vegetable grower. We'll be doing everything together this season, and growing everything in pots 🌱 I'll be showing you that no matter how small your outside space, you can still grow a decent amount of veg 🎉
All episodes in the series so far:
#1 - How To Grow Vegetables In Pots: The Complete Guide • How To Grow Vegetables...
#2 - What We Need To Sow Our First Veg Seeds • What We Need To Sow Ou...
#3 - How To Sow & Germinate Peppers & Aubergines • How To Sow & Germinate...
#4 - My Veg Seeds Have Germinated! Now What? (this video)
#5 - How To Sow & Germinate Tomato Seeds… At Home • How To Sow & Germinate...
In Episode 4 I show you what we need to do as soon as our seeds break through the surface of the soil - this means they’ve germinated! And the two things we need to do to keep them happy on the windowsill over the next few weeks, before we ‘prick them out’.
In the next two tutorials I’ll show you how to transplant the seedlings we want to grow onto maturity into their own individual pots, this is called ‘pricking out’. And how to sow and successfully germinate tomato seeds. We'll be sowing our tomato seeds around the start of February, so have your seeds by then! 🍅
If you still haven’t got round to sowing your chillies or aubergines yet - don’t worry, there’s still time. Aim to get them in some soil by the end of January to ensure the fruits ripen in time for summer. And remember, all the other flowering summer veg will be sown from March onwards.
If you have any Qs I haven't answered, please ask them below and I will answer them all! ⬇️

Hi! I sewed some chillie a few days ago but nothing has happened yet. How long do they take to sprout?

Hi Bella! If you check the video before this one, Episode 3, I talk through how to sow seeds and what sort of environment they need for successful germination. If you've followed that guide, your seeds will germinate within 1-2 weeks. Let me know if they've popped up yet!

why is it called pot to pickle?

Good question Louise! It's called 'Pot To Pickle' because in these tutorials I'll be taking the growers right through the growing season, from sowing these seeds and growing the veg in the pots, right to the end where we get to preserve our bounty by pickling them. Hence 'Pot To Pickle' 🤗
