  • 📅 7th Jan - Welcome to the first episode of #PotToPickle: How To Grow Vegetables In Pots - Complete Guide 🥒 #PotToPickle is a series of grow-a-long, back-to-basics video tutorials for the novice urban vegetable grower. We'll be going through the entire growing season together! And we will be growing everything in pots 🌱 I'll be showing you that no matter how small your outside space, you can still grow a decent amount of veg 🎉
    All episodes in the series so far:
    #1 - How To Grow Vegetables In Pots: The Complete Guide (this video)
    #2 - What We Need To Sow Our First Veg Seeds • What We Need To Sow Ou...
    #3 - How To Sow & Germinate Peppers & Aubergines • How To Sow & Germinate...
    #4 - My Veg Seeds Have Germinated! Now What? • My Veg Seeds Have Germ...
    #5 - How To Sow & Germinate Tomato Seeds… At Home • How To Sow & Germinate...
    Episode 1 is all about planning, the things we need to think about before we launch into the new vegetable growing season. I answer some of the most common questions to help us plan what we’ll be growing this year:
    1) I don’t have enough space or time to grow veg! 4:12
    2) What’s the plan this year? 6:34
    3) What vegetables should I grow? 8:28
    4) What plant forms should I look out for (bush, dwarf, cordon, cascading, vine etc.)? 11:34
    5) How many vegetable plants should I grow? 14:41
    6) How long will it take before I’m harvesting? 16:31
    7) I’m not in the UK, can I still join in the grow-a-long? 18:01
    8) What types of seed should I buy, hybrid (F1) or non-hybrid? 18:46
    9) Where can I buy vegetable seed from? 20:03
    10) When should I start sowing the seeds? 20:47
    In Episode 2 I’ll be covering the stuff we will need for the growing season ahead; it’s not a lot and nothing fancy! And if you have any Qs I haven't answered, please ask them below ⬇️

    Slugs are getting on my nerves right now eating up my Daffs. Foxes seem to like the warm bedding i've just made - go away! Aubergine, spinach and lobelia seedlings seem to be scared of the outside world and stopped growing :(. One tip. If you put seed trays on a radiator they seem to help germination - but that's probably a bad thing so don't follow me. :)

      Ahh the pesky slugs - I hear you Chantel! This year I've used nematodes for the first time and so far so good. They're not the cheapest defense but I reckon worth it for a natural option. When it comes to mammal pests (foxes, squirrels, cats etc.) I find a sprinkling of the hottest chilli powder you can find really works. All mammals cannot tolerate capsicum, whereas it doesnt affect birds or insects at all. You will just need to reapply after it rains. And absolutely, germinating on a radiator is a great idea! I actually cover this in Episode 2, the video after this one 😁 I hope you have a great growing season! Where are you based?

    • @LeylaKazim
      @LeylaKazim  3 роки тому

      Yes absolutely, cucumbers work great in pots! I will be creating a tutorial about how to sow and plant up cucumbers once we're in spring as it's too early to sow them yet (they grow fast!) Stay tuned :)

    Does asparagus work in pots?

    • @LeylaKazim
      @LeylaKazim  3 роки тому

      Hello! I do believe asparagus need to be grow in the ground. They're also perennial meaning you plant them once and they come back each year, rather than vegetables such as tomatoes and peppers where you sow them each season :)
