It's because the Focus is actually from Ford Europe, so it's really european. It's the same as Honda having a different version of the Civic for Europe, the US and Asia to the point that each uses a different chassis underneath with only the Civic name and maybe the engines shared between them.

I had a RS500 that was 345bhp and I had it played about with got another 30 and would top out on the autobahn at 160 restricted..loved it until it got stolen...
Good choice on the seats. I worked for Keiper-Recaro for a few years, and spent 5 years testing seat components in the test lab. The Recaro seat is one of if not the best seats for safety. I couldn't break the frame (usually the recliners fail)... the static pull machine just yanked it off the seat tracks, which did fail. Let's put it this way: In a wreck, the last thing you want is for the seat to come unglued under you. Most common failure is at the pivot point (recliner/recliner or recliner/hinge arrangement). The taumel gears in the dual recliners in the Recaros are stronger than any other type recliners I maliciously pull tested. The worst seats I came across were... well let's just say they came in one of those big '90-ish (government men in black drive them)... the buckets with that corduroy fabric that came in 3 colors, light blue, silver, and gold. The seat frame got it's nickname in house, when "Dirty Harry," the old engineer and I, discussed it. We called it the "Lawn Chair." It was all foam around spindly tubular framing. Compare that to the Recaro... and if I were to drive that Focus, I'd be glad it has those seats.
The U.S is partly to 'thank' for that. The new Focus RS is a 'world car' and designed to appeal more to the masses. So while this old Focus RS gets away with the lairy aggressive bodykit perfect for the European market it was aimed at, the new one is much more subdued to try and have a wider appeal.

Yup, my brother has one in Mexico. They did brought them to mexico but not to the USA I don't know why. But The new 2015/16 Ford Focus RS will now be available in the US, and the cool thing about it is that it will be AWD..
The Volvo Inline-5 is an absolutely bulletproof engine. They are incredibly strong and Volvo have been building I-5's for over 20 years. You don't do that if the design isn't durable. I had one in C30 T5 and it's a great engine.
Hardly, I'd trade the extra 70hp for AWD any day of the week. But to be fair, this came with 305hp stock, so the new one has 45 more HP and comes with all wheel drive, launch control, adjustable suspension, adjustable exhaust, 4 drive modes, electronic rear torque distribution, brembo brakes, forged wheels, track tires, and it's 6 years newer. I guess this one has the green paint and a black stripe, along with the custom 420 badge, those things are kinda "cool".

I think you may be correct. To get to 420, it would need bigger CC injectors and the CAS intake, which flows better than the mountune "top piece" intake. Further more, you would need to be going down the route of upgrading the turbo once you get past the 400 mark. It could however have the MR375 map in it (look it up on mountune's website).
Jay, I assumed by now someone would tell you but I guess not. My friend, what you refer to as the "wastegates" is actually the blow off valve. The wastegate will only be heard if it is plumbed openly vs. back into the exhaust and you are on the gas hard. The bov is heard when you let off the gas.
Having owned all 3 versions here in the UK I can confirm this MK2 is by far the best one. Unfortunately you guys got the MK3 which is considered the worse here.
I think I'd shit my pants if i saw an RS just cruising around on American roads... I'm all for big V8 RWD cars but as far as hot hatches go, it doesnt get much better than the RS and its still an awesomely powerful Ford. I dont get why so many people are hating on FWD.
because realistically you can do a lot more in RWD, and besides RWD is just more fun overall, FWD is more for like the commuter type (btw i own both RWD and FWD) so i can speak from experience

Subaru has their heads up their asses right now...I've owned a WRX hatch and an EasyStreet Motorsports Stage-4 WRX hatch...and I'm on the preorder list for the 2016 Focus RS. Brand loyalty can only go so far.

Probably because of all the years of the sedan and it's rally years, but again, it wasn't a beautiful hatch anyway, while the sedan looked alright. +1400VID Because of sales, majority of customers bought Impreza sedans over the Impreza hatch and when they had a full year with both STI hatch & sedan, the sedan out sold the hatch. It's also about suspension and aero. The sedan was more aerodynamic and longer wheel base so it was more stable.
The sedan also has MUCH less utility, and doesn't do as well in Autocross. The added weight over the rear tires in the hatch helped diminish the massive understeer the WRX has always had when pressed.
I worked as a mechanic in Ford for 3 years and 6 months here in Italy, and I had on my lifter a couple of these engines, one of them was a Focus RS 2010 and I drove it! Such a Mazda RX8 as well. in Europe the same 5 cylinder volvo engine (less HP) is mounted on the Ford Mondeo. we had one costumer that bought one of it and had a couple of trouble for (I think) don't know how to drive it. I owned for a period a '07 Focus 1.6 diesel 90Cv and now I've got my '02 Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 115Ps 250.000 Km
We here in the United States got the Focus RS with a 2.3 liter Ecoboost turbo four and AWD. It made 350hp(even more than the same engine in the current Mustang (310-330hp)). It's too bad this car is no longer available. It would beat a Honda Civic Type-R and a Subaru WRX STI easily.

The new Focus RS has AWD, engineered in-house by Ford from the ground up and said to be designed for much higher torque applications than you can find in the Focus RS.
The front end of the RS is spot on, but the rear ruins it. Hopefully the US version will be revised. With a couple exterior tweaks, Im a buyer for sure.
That's pretty much my point, He has a garage rich in history, and some great stories about them. Nothing against the car, it has just been done already. And I fully support more Euro spec product coming to North America.

This is the 2010 model, not the 2016, so FWD, not 4WD.
James MC and the engine is not the same today, this was a Volvo straight five 2.5 liter i think.
Puts down 420 no problem! Some in the uk putting out over 1000BHP. Gone are the days where front wheel drive can’t hack the power.
as a ford v8 owner, id say yes sometimes. these lil cars are responsive s hell. id love to take one of these out for a few laps
The front end of the RS is spot on, but the rear ruins it. Hopefully the US version will be revised. With a couple exterior tweaks, Im a buyer for sure.

That's pretty much my point, He has a garage rich in history, and some great stories about them. Nothing against the car, it has just been done already. And I fully support more Euro spec product coming to North America.

or maybe Ford Europe never request the approval for that car in other countries, so even a focus diesel is not legal

haha that's the owner of that Gas auto shop that took over on the later part of that TV show "pimp my ride." Wish they had the focus RS in Canada, I hear them rave about it in the UK.
It always makes me laugh when you see a european car with double the bhp of a american car but half the engine size. Plus a manual gearbox so you know no american is ever going to steal it

This wouldnt compete with the mustang... people who want a Mustang arent going to look at a 3 door hot hatch with a motor half the size and fwd. Thats why they came out with the ST, because it isnt a competitor to itself, just to other brands' hot hatches

Quaife makes some amazing stuff I have a Quaife diff in my 800+ hp evo 8 and it just accepts the horsepower and torque VERY well.
If you can't afford a Nissan GTR this is what you buy.
