Hello gang and Happy New Year! Today was a fun one: @BuiltByChris came around, and we spent a couple hours getting him to cut his very first ever Dovetail joint by hand. Couple stories, couple laughs, and a couple dovetails cut out. Great way to end the year in the workshop, and I can't wait to get back out there in 2024! Cheers for all the support in 2023, it's been a great one!

Well done Chris. Teach those young whipper snappers that us old blokes can do more than they think.😂😂
mate, it's been a while since I've been called a young whipper snapper 😆 I'll take it though 😆
Yep, very happy that I did this. Just gotta keep practicing so I don't lose the skill.
Wow, I was impressed. Those dovetails were great. It’s not true what people say about Chris
Nah, most of it's true 😆
Love the very fatherly “Aaaarrrh, put it down!” & “no bleeding in my workshop”.
I wish I had had that i ended up learning the hard way! 6 stitches quickly broke me of that bad habit.
I know, "You are not allowed to bleed in my shop", seems like an unnecessary rule to have, yet I had to remind him of it multiple times! 😆
He kept yelling at me the whole time. Felt like I was back at school. 🤣
@@BuiltByChris and it seemed you paid as much attention as when you were in school, lol.😂
@@woodfathermerch idea.
Print it as a sticker.
I’ll forgo a royalty percentage for a free sticker. 😂😂
More proof It's never too late to learn something new. Chris did a great job and Mario looks like a great teacher. Wonderful.
Hah, cheers Anthony, that's the perfect way of looking at it. If there's something you want to do, do it. 👍
Well that was fun. Happy new year blokes 🎉
Same to you mate. I look forward to making part two when you come down to Melbourne! (You can be a 'young pup' instead of an 'old dog' if that makes you feel better? 😉 )
Haha, Great video and some nice first ever dovetails 👌
hehe, cheers Joe, and yep, I'm jelly at how nice his first ones came out, my early ones look like a beaver gnawed them out of a 2x4 😆
Good job fellas. Mario you’re a natural teacher and Chris, you’re just a natural. Enjoyed it very much. But I’d need to see a photo of Chris with no mo
I couldn't even get him to say it again so I could get it clearly on camera! I don't think Chris is a fan of having no mo'. 😜
There is no picture of me without the mo. And it will never happen again!!!!
@@BuiltByChris Artifical Intelligence can draw anything we ask of it mate!
I love this!!! Well done Chris!! Great edit Mario!! Chris classic with I tried to buy a fret saw!!! Love it!!!
ahahaha I know! I expected him to show up with every possibly needed tool, all of them brand new still in the packaging, I was shocked he didn't have a fretsaw yet! I guess it's because neither DeWalt nor Festool make them! 😆
@@woodfather 😂😂😂 100%
😂😂😂😂 loving this, put it down!!
ahahaha, no one is allowed to slice their hands open in my shop!!
@@woodfather 😂🤣🤣 that’s the goal
Nice video and yes those dovetails were great regardless of first time or not.
Cheers Harki, good to hear from you! And yep, a little sawdust in that gap and 90% of people would never notice it! 👍
That's so awesome guys, what a great experience!
It was good fun, def need to revisit the idea when you next come down to Melbourne! 😜
Awesome video guys ! Good to see you guys in the workshop doing what you enjoy, Cheers Fellas !
Dave mate, good to hear from you! Hopefully you're back in a shop soon too, been a while since seeing your epoxy creations! 👍
Loved it good stuff guys. Mates helping mates , what it's about
Cheers Ash, it was good fun, though a little crowded at times, I might need a bigger space if I do this again 😆
Good on you!! I took the same path as you during covid lockdowns.
Nice one! It's not a skill I use often enough, but it's nice knowing that in a pinch, I can knock out a hand cut dovetail, makes me feel happy inside. 😆
@@woodfather so the next step, is the mitrerd dovetail.
Very happy I did this. Thanks again Mario.
@@BuiltByChris awesome job Chris!! My first dovetails were disasters.
Welcome to the slippery slope of buying hand tools 😉
@@ArchEdge if Festool move into the hand tool market, Chris' wallet will be in real trouble 😆
Great job! Hes has some experience with hand tools.
Yep, luckily I didn't need to teach him how to saw, just, _where_ to saw. 🙂
Nice work lads, great 1st attempt Chris, definitely want to attempt this myself
I can also relate to Chris with the poor choice of wager.
In 1995 I bet I’d shave my head with a razor if we lost to StKilda…….
ahahahha, I bet it came back thick and vibrant in September though 😆
One of the best fast bowlers ever! Onya Merv
ahahaa, he gets warm and fuzzy inside when someone says that 😆
