One of the best beat 'em ups I've played!
Still, not as skillful as I wish, but I only got the game yesterday, and this was only my second boss rush clear. Still, an S rank is an S rank!
I like that the game emphasises on combos and juggling enemies. This is the first game in the franchise that does that, as far as I know.
Bosses are great, each with it's own gimmick and personality. And they are not easy.
Star moves are a new thing. They are very powerful and can get you out of sticky situations.That's why you only have s handful per level. If you don't use them they contribute to your level score and rank, besides I wanted to see how would I handle myself without them.
The only little gripe I have with this game is that the music is nowhere near on par with Yuzo Koshiro's tracks from the other games. Oh, well.

Stage 3 boss fight: DADDY!
Look at Nora, Turning these guys into Super Saiyan, with just a crack of her whip
I hope they'll make the bosses playable with patches or DLC's.
And some of these bosses are so hard for the slower characters. I wish they had added a run for everyone.
They did say there will be DLC, just don't know what yet. I'd be lying if I say I did NOT want Shiva or Skate in current form
I can live without a fullblown run, but my god once you get used to a character with a (--> + -->) dash and you go to a character without one the lack of mobility is just painful.
There's no need for a run these beat em up games were always about a certain strategy and I feel like these guys got everything down pack in that aspect.
Just practice man, just because you cant beat them doesnt mean they should make it easier for you. This Mania isnt even really Mania like sor2.
@@asukask9851 I know you are responding to the post above, but I do think their is a quality of life component to just being able to traverse the screen and get to the next enemy quicker. I have zero issue with the present difficulty of the game (or pushing it a bit higher), but it just doesn't make much sense that perfectly healthy individuals like Axel or Blaze need to traverse the screen like they are taking a leisurely stroll through marmalade.
I'm for Floyd + Max (bulky bruisers) and all the SOR1 characters not having a dash (more retro feels), but for everyone else give them a dash at the bare minimum. There is enough good old fashioned retro vibes sprinkled through out the game that you don't need to enforce no dash on the modern versions of the characters.
My hat is off to you! I am an Axel purist and this is AWESOME!!!!

Beat the game with Axel and Blaze, swapped as blaze for the middle of the game went back to axel for the last 5 levels.
The Airplane and Y island kicked my ass but now I am a Axel Mastaaaah lol love this game!! Best beat em up in a long damn time
I'm just gonna say it: There is no bigger bad ass in the universe than Axel Stone.

@@edgarector having so much trouble with the first one... Embarrassing! I can get through the others but I just need more health left after the first round. She keeps dashing in very quickly and spamming this invincible double-kick on me that hits for lots of health, but I didn't see her do it on you once - is there a trick to stop her doing this?
@@scarlet__eye9489 She is doing it randomly all the time. Notice how I quick jab her when she is close enough? That's the general strategy I use with all the bosses. Quick jab them then close the distance, quick jab them, them grab them and do a combo.
The first boss is, actually, not that easy, so don't feel embarrassed. Generally, after she tries to electrocute you she is vulnerable to attack. Bait it.

Pro tip, against the DJ, even when he is getting back up and reforming his shield, you can still attack him during that animation and deal regular damage before the shield comes online. Makes that fight a bit faster. Also thrown grenades can be picked up and tossed back which, in this map where it's pretty large, isn't as helpful but can net some free damage if you can lead/shepherd Comish and Estel into them. Great Boss run!

What you have to do is waiting for here to attack, stepside and punish her. Never attack first. And never, never jump on her.

If you time it right, you can basically use Axel like a fighting game character. You can cancel the frame right after the last kick in his basic combo into Rise Upper which you can cancel into his forward special. Hits for like a 15 or 16 hit combo.
Super deadly if you have a target alone. I might see if I can't add the jabs into grab into jump kick thing you do to start a lot of your combos.
I think some nice corner combo would look like...
Jab jab>jab jab>jab jab grab>clinch attack x3>jump>down air attack>air special
This ends in a wallbounce but I can't seem to get anything off of it. A Blaze could totally OTG them for another round afterwards
Amazing video man, especially with Axel. I have definitely found he is slightly limited compared to other characters on game. I've learnt so much from this video. Thanks and keep up the good work!

I had finally beat Boss Rush with Floyd last night-with very little life to spare! But then I watched your video today, studied your strategy, and then beat Boss Rush first try with Adam!! No stars used and had about 5 chickens leftover! Haha thanks for the upload!

Very nice.. i can't even clear this Adam.. let alone Axel.. as cool as his character design is- Balance-wise, the viability of his moveset to dodge/throw/combo/speed seems subpar and outperformed by other characters from what I see. I feel like he should get a bonus points multiplier or something since he doesn't excel anywhere. Seems like a testament to your talent at this game.
Axel actually has superior mobility to Adam, you just need to throw people backwards, do the Jump + Down kick to send people away or his jump aerial special
@@MCorner I guess i didn't really consider the aerial special, since hard mode+ the hp cost of specials is so high they become less viable, or very rare to use unless you're just super skilled i guess.
Axel is so hard for me to play. You're fantastic with him
They should make new Max and Shiva playable as DLC. They already have their SOR4 variants so why not?) Same thing goes for gallery costumes.
You can deal some extra damage to DJ Washi while he is charging up his shield. Just continue whacking him and he will still take some health damage.
I think Dj K Washi has the coolest theme out of all the bosses.

its so weird that the old games just felt better. The hit detection and snappy frames of the 2d animation just feels better. Soundtrack hits home for me more too.
Should have titled the vid "No Stars/No Specials" cause you didnt use a special once that entire rush and still got an S Rank. I'm both annoyed and impressed at the same time lol Good run, mate :)

If you use SOR3 Skate in easy mode just keep spamming offensive special, it you makes invulnerable to almost anything lol.

Very nice job there. I'll make sure to send this video to people saying "Axel sucks because he can't dash". lol. BTW, my main is Blaze. This game's mechanics are super smooth, I look forward to more videos and I hope they keep supporting the game with new modes and maybe unlockables. Loved the designs of SoR4 Max, Shiva, Estel, all other bosses too if made playable it would be amazing.
In case you didnt know, you can switch the soundtrack to the Sega versions in the audio settings

Awesome run bro! I would've poped those stars in a heart beat lol. How did you feel playing with Axel? I feel he is the most limited out of the SOR4 chars. Their combo potential are a lot better and they seem to do more damage overall, some have better movement too
Axel is, definitely, the weakest of all characters. He is the second slowest (after Floyd), he has a very low reach, his damage is pretty low too, and his star move is the worst, imo. That being said, I really like this character. His combos are great, and you, truly, need to be a master of the game to be able to play well with him. I am planning to get to know him better and do some Mania runs with him.
I play very plainly here, because that was only the second day I purchased the game, and only my second boss rush clear. But, anyway, check out my speedrun with Floyd to see how broken he can be! :)

@@P2WPain Thanks, man! I really like him a lot. He was my initial character, but I tried Floyd for a bit and got hooked on him for a while. I really want to try Mania No Death with Axel.
@@edgarector Yea I understand bro, that's how I felt with Blaze and Cherry when I played them Streets Of Rage 4 the 1st week. I appreciate the other chars more after trying them out but Blaze and Cherry are definitely still my favorites
I guess, you are into faster, more nimble characters? I always preferred the bulky heavy hitters.
The order of difficulty amongst the bosses is not right some later bosses are easier than previous ones, like Max is easy and Barbon is pretty hard compared to his SOR2 version. Nora too is pretty easy compared to the commisioner and Mr Y alone he is not that hard at all. I think Estel with the Commissioner and the 2 girls with Fire and Poison are the hardest. But great strategy man very relaxed played.
Adrian Badilla the strategy I use for the two girls is just walk on the side of them to easily attack them, seeing as they don’t punch or kick, they just use the snakes to keep you away
Is it just me, or do the twins and final boss fight between them, seem to be the easiest boss fights in the game? The first time I fought Ms. Y, she didn’t land more than 3 blows on me. Beat the final boss on my very first go as well.
They are not incredibly difficult, it's true.
The toughest boss for me was Estel with two commissioners on Mania.
It's supposed to be a joke! In order movies the sub bosses are tough 😂 and final Boss is a joke 😂 .my nephews said the same I explained it to them

I can, but not with Axel, I'm really bad with slow characters, with Floyd I can barely pass the normal stages even on the normal difficulty.
I was happy to see Barbon as a Boss again, but his theme seems too chill. A remix of “Never Return Alive” would’ve been nice.

Is the laugh for Mr Y changed for boss rush? It seemed to me he had a much higher pitch laugh in the story mode.
I think it has something to do with different region, or something.
Which bosses do you think are the toughest in Boss Rush or otherwise?
For me, its:
Estel + Commissioner, followed by
DJ Washi (too annoying with support + shield)
Commissioner (when teamed up with taser guy)
Overall Commissioner is the most unpredictable for me.
Estel + two Commissioners on Mania is the absolute nightmare. Everything else is not that hard.

Great man...I can finish the Boss Rush only with Adam( no doubt the best of main characaters) of SOR4 and Shiva...(ok, with Shiva is very easy, since he's broken as Hell).
how do you play as Shiva?
@@namanrawal5849 just dash+that leg swipe and you can kill everything fast as hell. (ok, now I can finish the boss rush with all characters in rank S, except that WWE guy)...but Shiva is one of most broken characters.

Game developers must understand that this is the kind of game we want. We want them to focus on producing something like this. Not 3D games and 3d open world games as what we see these days, which is a lot of effort to develop and marketing is very weak. All we need is 2d and 2.5d arcade games And it must be better if it included a payment method, I mean insert coin . Press start button. continue ? . game over .
What kills the fun of playing . is the home and mobile gaming

Not only the gender, the moveset and everything is different, they're totally different characters, I even think the male ones can coexist with the female ones if they wanted.

No. It was only my second boss rush clear, and I only got the game one day before, so I was completely unfamiliar with bosses patterns, and didn't want to risk it.
What's weird to me, is how the Xbox version and PS4/Switch Versions of this game are slightly different. On the PS4/Version, that combo indicator lasts longer, than they do on this version, allowing more time to get the "Out of this World" Achievement/Trophy
With Barbourn you can just jump on the spot in time with his kicks to avoid them.

The hardest boss in the game is the commish
Try Estel round 2 on the mania difficulty. She calls in TWO commissioners with boss like hp as backup.
When he flashes red, he'll walk toward you to grab you. When he flashes white(armor) he'll throw haymakers, get away from him and come back at him. When he lunges back about to zoom toward you, just wait on the other end, move to either side to dodge, then hit or grab him.

What's up with the voice clips? Most sound really different than what they do now, I got the game on release date and they never sounded like this.

This is the pre alpha build. For some reason, Xbox One version got released this way. They updated it to the current version after that.
I prefer to ignore Ms Y on the last boss and focus on the robot, you got your ass handed to you while you chased her :P
I end up taking her out because otherwise she just jumps in the robot anyway. Having her not following me while I deal with the robot is better. Then I take pot shots at the robot when she wanders around a bit and comes back my way.
I prefer taking Ms Y out first then take on the robot. Ms Y is the easiest of the two.
How do you purchase this game on the limited run website?
Amazing play man. Does anyone know how the ranking system work? I finished boss rush in 26 mins and got 32k+ score but still a B rank. Is that because I used star moves?
No, I think, you just set a certain amount of points and that's enough. This was done on an Xbox One, and it was before the update. So, the points required for an S rank were lower. I don't know, maybe now you need above 35k, but that's just a guess.

It seems kinda lame that the ideal way to fight these bosses is mostly just walking away slowly and punching very slowly. Like, the only reason they proof difficult is that you're looking for more interesting gameplay as a player, to somehow break them with just the right combo... But, nope, just walk away, wait for your opening, deliver your five punches, rince and repeat.
That's not the ideal way, of course, I have just got the game one day prior, and was new to everything.
Nora with her simps and white knights is my favorite boss

I’m seeing people say characters shouldn’t have dash since they didn’t in SOR2. I have to say that though I love SOR4 some enemy types are just far too unforgiving this for around.
What is it with everyone and sor2, sor1 had better music and sor3 had better mechanics. Dashing gave sor3 a much better flow and helped it from feeling so claustrophobic

is grab vaulting invincible, i tried your strat of grabbing and vaulting to slamming, but they keep on hitting me out of it. any advice?
It is invincible, but the timing is, kind of, tight.
@@edgarector i dont get it, so when you land you have to slam right away right? If you delay it a bit you get hit.. can you get hit during the vault animation though?
@@ron0804 No. And that's the trick. Do you see how I avoid the lunging Commissioner by vaulting at the exact moment he passes? But, yeah, you have to slam right away, otherwise you'll get hit.
For crowd control you can grab someone and hit them without holding the joystick in any direction. Axel will headbutt them, and they will knock down the other enemies.
Why does the character audio sound different?
Because the Xbox One version was actually a pre build at launch. It got updated, and now it's like all the other versions.
It's odd to see him struggle with people I had an easy time with and destroy people who smashed my face in.... play-styles I guess
right - I get demolished by the Commissioner, but Estel is a pretty easy win for me.
