Yes, I feel you. Even the devs admitted those are a pain in the a**. But you can easily bait them, stand in the same line a bit apart, if they start their air attack move to a side and counterattack when they land, works pretty well due to their long recovery. Good luck!

Damn dude I’m having so much fun playing all the characters and experimenting with new set ups & what not. Without this channel and this video I would have had a way tougher time. Thanks for being a badass man
Was funny, my friend and I were playing the original games reliving our childhood before this gsme came out and we spoke about how we hate the damn knife guy and were both pissed that he was back in this game.. we couldn't stop laughing at that.
That part where all the Galasias are training in the dojo used to make me so mad. I used to lose like two lives in their alone. It’s difficult even if you try your best to use the weapons in the dojo the whole time. Donovan is most annoying when he evolves and starts throwing and catching weapons in later levels. Not more annoying than Galsia but more annoying than earlier iterations of Donovan.
This is a helpful video, I understand Barbon more now and he looks much simpler. I also never realized Comissioner was always going to do an uppercut if he was walking towards you but it seems obvious now. Commissioner is my greatest enemy so here are two more tips I think would help people. When he (or any enemy except Barney) flashes red and starts walking towards you, as long as you hit him before he touches you he has no armor at all. You can just punch him as he walks up and give him a full combo, as long as you touch him before he touches you. In other words when Comissioner flashes red, it's free combo time if you keep your cool and time your first hit properly. Another useful hint is a great counter attack for when he charges across the screen to grab. When you notice him doing this, go and stand opposite him on the other side of the screen. Face away from him. When he charges over, simply use your defensive special before he makes contact and he can't grab you. During his brief pause after finishing his charge he has no armor and you can start a combo, continuing on from the defensive special attack you already hit him with.
I’m not joking when I say I have not had this much fun playing a videogame in a LONG time, this games easily become me of my all time favorites, and I can’t say that for any other modern game personally.
I've been struggling against Barbon forever but recently I realized something. the player can simply jump on each of his kick to avoid them. it's way easier than walking "around" them
I’m born in 1989 and had SOR2 on the Mega Drive (and other formats since then like my old 360 and my iPhone now).. No expert but, I’m OK to get through on hard with no restarts for a challenge. These very guys have given me the most grief. Goro, Barbon (massively OP’d since SOR2!). Now I have some nice simple solutions! Loved the Galsia section! Do one for those jumping ladies too! Love this game, great homage to the old and loving the new bits about it too. Mid air weapon grabs etc. Nice to see other older heads in the comments too haha!
My favorite combo is with Blaze; its incredibly precise but deals a lot of damage. Punch x3, Heavy Attack, Foward Special. It can also be chained into a different combo of Blitz Attack, Air Special x2 if they landed close enough. Also I love Galsias with knives because they directly reference the trilogy with the same exact stance xD
1. Did NOT know about neutral jump defensive ability. 2. Did NOT realize Adam's neutral jump kick was a 360 hit, which makes no sense given he's the Boxer inspired fighter. 3. You have earned a sub. Would love more SoR4 content from you.
Did not know about any of the stuff he said... but somehow, go figure why, I do know about the Galsia with a knife also... I already hated them in 1992
Super dope. I knew eventually people would start bringing out guides for this game. And it looks like we're finally here. I wanted to add: using Cherry (or Skate?) against Goro is pretty much a freebie, all you have to do is jump on his head and you're pretty free to pummel and lever him.
So true... knife wielding galsia is and has always been legendary. U see him creep on screen in the middle of a fight with a solid donovan duo, and ur heart sinks. 😳
Nice to see more light bring brought to this game a month after its release. It's underappreciated. I tell my friends to give it a shot but they kind of brush it off as I did - thinking that beatemups weren't for me since I didn't grow up with them. I'll tell you now 60 hours of Gametime spent later that I couldn't have been more wrong. Fantastic product. Dying for new characters to play as
May I add one thing? You can do a neutral punch 4 times before grabbing most enemies (except Goro). That means, punch, wait half a second, punch, wait, punch, wait, punch. On the 5th punch they drop to the ground, so you want to do 4 punches, grab, kick, kick again, then either blitz or throw. This is specially useful for bosses such as Diva, Commissioner and Estele. It works for Shiva too, except you need to throw him right after you grab him, or he escapes.
Another tactic to deal with Barbon's kick dance is to neutral jump and kick him each time he performs one. The timings tight and his super armour means you won't knock him down unless it's his last one, but if you get it right you can hit him over and over for some heavy damage. For Commissioner it's possible to stun lock him when his armour's down by performing a combo and leaving out the last knockdown hit, the moment he recovers do it again and he'll struggle to escape. This is of course tricky as in both fights where you encounter him he has backup, but if you're facing toward them when they arrive, careful timing can get them sucked into the combo too.
Dang those were some really good tips! I've always had an issue with Barbon's kicks but that should make it a lot easier! Also, didn't connect the bikes to the adds showing up. I usually just break all of them as quick as I can and then chaos ensues.
Instead of the Barbon dance, i use the Neutral Jump (jump straight up, not diagonally) to circumvent around Barbon’s roundhouse kicks. Works perfectly & i can immediately punish him w/ a combo after he’s done
*ya can do Consecutive Neutral Jump w/ a Jump kick (no diagonal) against Max as well when he does his Shoulder Tackle rush but keep it to a light punishment after since when Max gets pissed off into his 2nd phase, you risk getting PowerBomb’ed (frame 1 untechable) when you next to him. Also since Max is a tank & he don’t flinch
Would like to note, at least from my experience, that an alternate way of avoiding Barbon's desperation move kicks is to just neutral jump in place through them. Very easy to time since he always does them in a rhythm, and he will almost always be open and perfectly positioned to get a quick combo in on him once he finishes. Only time this gets risky is if bikes start getting destroyed and the biker adds start piling in during his attacks, because there's a good chance he'll inevitably destroy one of the bikes himself while he's doing his kicks.
Definitely need a part two! This guide is so useful for these enemies, especially the Biker Girl enemies. Ffs i hate them so much haha can never avoid their charge when i’m trying to take on one at a time and another just has to fuck up my combo string. Definitely gonna try these tips though I need to git gud at this game! Thanks again man! Hope in the next video you can give tips on how to deal with the female enemies that jump kick. As an Axel player, I literally never have any time to get out of the way, especially when theres more than one of em and i’m trying to bait one at a time or just take em all out in one!
I found overall the best way to avoid them is mostly throwing enemies at them since they spend so much time in the air. Axel moves slower than both Cherry and Adam Hunter but his back throw is better than both of theirs. I think you have invincibility frames very limited but some when you switch sides on a grappled enemy by pressing X (I use PlayStation) or A on Xbox I think. Lol just realized I could have called it jump button which is neutral lol. Also sometimes you have to use neutral or defensive special move. It sucks though because you lose a lot of health and they jump around a lot. Also if you punch them in the face with a quick jab you can interrupt them taking air to begin their flying jump kick. You have a few frames to interrupt her with a jab. And she’ll fall to the floor quick. Also Axel has a really good jump special. It can help him travel decently across the screen. But if you start it too late you’ll just end up losing health from using your special and getting kicked mid-air. Basically the goal is to prevent them from even being able to jump at all by either throwing an enemy at them first since they always get hit as far as I can tell by thrown enemies or punching them before they can finish jumping in the air, or moving if possible. Although I think moving out the way is hardest they seem to lock on to you with the precision of a missile with the flying kicks. Also in the level called underground they are easy. All you have to do is let them die while they jump into the vents with the dangerous green air. I actually move all the way across the screen to push them forward early in the underground level and they usually kill themselves and it keeps the combos going. They can be really difficult on other levels though like the Old Pier, and Y tower.
With Murphy, if I have blaze I spam the special bc she becomes invincible to his hits and once the shield goes away I spam hit him to get her health back up.
Thank you so much!! I died so many times against that bloody Commisioner, and Barbon just made me quit the game. I didn't know the biker chicks came due to the bikes being destroyed.
In terms of annoying enemies, this vid has helped with some of it. Dealing with that bottle throwing girl can be annoying, especially when there is more than one of her. The same could be said of the bosses that have similar splash aoe attacks. I still play without wanting to spam the special moves though, which is my problem. That habit gets my combo broken too often.
@@lazarushernandez5827 true and a good tip. It's more they drop the bottles when you grab them for a throw or when you hit them. Axel especially has difficulty escaping the splash radius in time and it ends your combo.
@@phantomgamer9264 yeah chinatown y tower n old pier were toughest to get s. i thought the not getting hit was hardest trophy to get to platinum but got it done
Chinatown has those two rooms where enemies keep coming in huge numbers, and it makes it quite easy to get high combos. The perfect run trophy was indeed a pain in the ass.
Another thing to notice is whether the commissioner is holding his shoulder. If he is holding his shoulder with his arm cocked back, he will charge horizontally across the screen. If not, then its a series of punches where he moves up or down the screen. Also, I found whenever a galsia with a knife rushes from the top or bottom, jump attacks tend to work well for me. Hope these help somebody.
Awesome video!!! I main Estel and sometimes play with Max. Wish you covered Gourmand, the big belly suspendered dudes. They're just hard for the sake of it. Sadistic devs!
Thnx for the tips, i have trouble with barbon and shiva. I find those 2 the most pain in the ass bosses. And im surprised shiva didnt make this list. Just odd cus imo i find the final boss er bosses to be easist. A really good strategy for final boss i found is damage mr y till he pops in the big mech then move to upper left corner and perform vertical jumpkicks on the mech arm. So long as u keep jumping and kicking ms y will 80% of time walk around back of you and you can hit her with a grab or blitz combo, other times shell come at you from front then you just do a defense move to knock her back. Then just continue jumping n kickimg at mech arm regardless if yer hitting or not. If u just stand there ms y will constantly come at you head on n get cheap hits. But using this strategy i get through final boss all the time with no damage, its also handy to no for s rank on hard. The actual last stage is harder then the last boss lol
I listen & watch all these videos to get way better at the game. Yet I still can’t put most of these tips & strategies to full use when I’m playing 🤣 I get all motivated like yeah I’m going to dominate now & I still manage to get overwhelmed 😭
I thought I was merely being an idiot when I was getting hit by the Knife Galsia so often. I think he's ended my combos more than anyone. I also tend to get hit by the drop kicking girls.
Nope. You are just used to the classic games. They changed a few things, and did so not for the best. Another is the defensive special. In the classic games it can be triggered instantly, in any scenario. Alas, not here. It won't trigger if you're being attacked, which kinda defeats the purpose... Also much more "platforming" and much less ass-kicking, compared to any other SOR game. Add other weird design choices: one-dimensional bits, weapon mechanics...pick-up button... Well, as the saying goes: don't fix what ain't need fixing.
@@SenatorArmstrong2018 Ha! Of course i do. Unfortunately it is as good as a fish in a marathon run. It's like when you're asking for a fork, - they give you the fork...with a soup. The "Legacy mode" only switches certain controls - mainly the pickup button to the SOR classic. While this should be a great idea in theory (as i wanted), but the design of SOR4 does not allow it to work well. Because unlike SOR 1 and 2, the weapons are often laying on the floor in large quantities, - and the level space is smaller. Thus such control modification will constantly disrupt the combat flow. The deeper design flaws are the source, cosmetic window-dressing can't fix that. However, if the so-called "legacy mode" has some other secret functions - i'll be glad to learn about them. Not that i found any. I do enjoy the game, and i got pretty good at it, trying to shoot for A-S ranks on all levels. But it still feels like a very pretty clone (but a clone nonetheless) to me, not a real SOR game - exactly for the reasons of the odd mechanics, design issues and the huge gaps between the quality of game components: while some are awesome-to-perfect, others are mediocre-to-lame. Which is frankly disappointing, cause if the effort on all parts was equal - this game could be something epic on an intergalactic scale :-)
Love this game, and all the series actually. This masterpiece is a fresh breath of air for everyone who like beat em up genre and sor series at all. Good job, man.Keep going!
To add on your barbon strategy when he goes for those dancing kicks you dont have to move in X formation. It works but to avoid time wasting position yourself "in the middle of the X stay there and neutral jump Barbons barrage of kicks.
Tbh there are far more annoying enemies in my opinion. I do agree the bikers are annoying though. 1. The dropkick girls especially in groups theyre hard to evade. 2. The muay thai guys. 3. Donovans are so annoying and nuisance for a basic enemy. Their jab is fast and they often break your combo inbetween and run up and uppercut you LOL
Most annoying thing in sor4 is the bosses run away from you the entire time so they can range attack you it’s a very annoying play style so you have to counter it with the same annoying thing by pretending your running away the whole time to Aggro them to you, and no it’s not like they’re coming at you so you have to dodge, they’re running away from you trying to counter you the entire time because they expect you to chase them down, pretty bad design if you ask me.
Praying for Commissioner with a knife in the DLC.
My favorite counter for the Murphy's have been Cherry's flaming Knee. just run, knee, turn, run, flame knee again.

You can catch the bottles before they land and throw them back at her.
@@lazarushernandez5827 true and a good tip.
It's more they drop the bottles when you grab them for a throw or when you hit them.
Axel especially has difficulty escaping the splash radius in time and it ends your combo.
The "S RANK IN HARDEST DIFFICULTY" Trophy is stupid hard to achieve for this game. Useful vid nonetheless
Not the hardest tho.
I thought the same but it's actually quite doable. The Old Pier and the Y Tower are the only real hard ones.
@@redpyramid8909 I agree maybe even Chinatown, cause that level can drag on sometimes same with Y-Tower
All tips are cool and helpful! Thanks.
Thanks for the guide, but here is no the most dangerous and annoying foe here - Max.
Goro and that tall guy with the karrate kicks are a pain.
Jump kicks are good against most red charged grabs
Great video! Ending was class hahaha 😹
In case of Barbon you can just jump right before he is going to start those spin kicks. It will avoid them.
Ending LOL. That was good! :D
Dude you say you're no pro but you made a great video there. There are stuff I never though about!
Great Guide! What about the other Bosses? Can we have a part 2?
andre232323 I’m considering it! Thanks 🙏
Particularly interested in your take on Estel round 2 when she has 2 commissioners as adds
Other chars are easy to deal with, except by the roundhouse whores
The two commissioners and the lady cop is a sure downed life for me. I just accept it.
I love this game, but I absolutely suck at it. This vid shall come in handy. Thank you!
Great video man! Maybe I want smash my controller this Time.
I have nightmares about the Galcia segment of the gauntlet in Chinatown.
Very good info on these enemies. Especially useful when I try boss rush
My bane for Bosses is D.Va, and I actually deal with Comm. actually way better then most people apperently
So nice !!! Thank you !!!
That’s exactly how I manage the final boss too :)
Every time with that knife! He's always had me unnecessarily spamming jump kicks.
Health bar: Is Full
Three Galsias with a knife just after you finished doing a special: Finally a worthy opponent our battle will be legendary!
That ending is hilarious 😂 Anywho loved the video and I intend to use those techniques the next time I play._Thank you dude!!!
I listen & watch all these videos to get way better at the game. Yet I still can’t put most of these tips & strategies to full use when I’m playing 🤣 I get all motivated like yeah I’m going to dominate now & I still manage to get overwhelmed 😭
Most Blitz attacks also gives I-Frames and some Front specials gives I-frames
7:28 i didnt event know that you could do 2 attacks in 1 jump. I'm from SoR 1 so i didnt even think about it :D
You have to punch down in the air, then smash the attack botton. When you hit the kick you can continue the combo with a especial in the air
Didn’t figure that out till I beat it with everyone
Just like Final Fight. SOR4 has better air combos/juggles though.
@@RobertPayne556 Yep, Final Fight. SOR 4 has fewer moves than SOR 2.
Good stuff! Commissioner always kicks my ass because I'm too impatient
Galsia with knife is the OG crazed butt-stabber long before Markiplier could even make a joke about it.
I thought I was merely being an idiot when I was getting hit by the Knife Galsia so often. I think he's ended my combos more than anyone. I also tend to get hit by the drop kicking girls.
Move aside, wait until they land from the kicks then swoop in and grab/throw them.
As for Jack The Ripper, jump kicks or wear a stab-proof vest.
Nope. You are just used to the classic games. They changed a few things, and
did so not for the best. Another is the defensive special. In the classic games it
can be triggered instantly, in any scenario. Alas, not here. It won't trigger if you're
being attacked, which kinda defeats the purpose... Also much more "platforming"
and much less ass-kicking, compared to any other SOR game. Add other weird
design choices: one-dimensional bits, weapon mechanics...pick-up button...
Well, as the saying goes: don't fix what ain't need fixing.
@@HexenStar You know a “Legacy Mode” exists, right?
@@SenatorArmstrong2018 Ha! Of course i do. Unfortunately it is as good as a fish in a marathon run.
It's like when you're asking for a fork, - they give you the fork...with a soup. The "Legacy mode" only
switches certain controls - mainly the pickup button to the SOR classic. While this should be a great
idea in theory (as i wanted), but the design of SOR4 does not allow it to work well. Because unlike
SOR 1 and 2, the weapons are often laying on the floor in large quantities, - and the level space is smaller.
Thus such control modification will constantly disrupt the combat flow. The deeper design flaws
are the source, cosmetic window-dressing can't fix that. However, if the so-called "legacy mode"
has some other secret functions - i'll be glad to learn about them. Not that i found any.
I do enjoy the game, and i got pretty good at it, trying to shoot for A-S ranks on all levels.
But it still feels like a very pretty clone (but a clone nonetheless) to me, not a real SOR game - exactly
for the reasons of the odd mechanics, design issues and the huge gaps between the quality of
game components: while some are awesome-to-perfect, others are mediocre-to-lame.
Which is frankly disappointing, cause if the effort on all parts was equal - this game could be
something epic on an intergalactic scale :-)
Love this game, and all the series actually. This masterpiece is a fresh breath of air for everyone who like beat em up genre and sor series at all.
Good job,man.Keep going!
That's really useful! If you have any tips on defeating max that would be awesome
Thank you for the tips! This i'll come in handy for the S tier run
To add on your barbon strategy when he goes for those dancing kicks you dont have to move in X formation. It works but to avoid time wasting position yourself "in the middle of the X stay there and neutral jump Barbons barrage of kicks.
that chinaland room with galsias is one of hardest parts of game. you have to get rid of those spears asap.
Thanks for the great tips!
Just wanted to say excellent video dude
tyvm 🙏
Really helpful video. Very clear and concise and easy to follow
I cry every time I have to fight a bunch of Glasia holding knife and sword in the dojo
Love that ending! It's funny cause it's true. 👍
Great video
Barbon does 4 kicks not 5 but i enjoyed watching this
Oops! 😬
@@StoneEdgeGaming Actually the amount of kicks are random.
Mostly hes gonna throw 4 of them.
But he can just throw one up to five of them.
One of the most fun games I've ever played tbh
thank you for this video mate. Very helpful. Your skillz are Impressive
We need a part 2
Wish I knew about the Barbon Dance a while back, but better late than never 😮 Awesome guide👏🏿
Just got this game and it's awesome. They did a great job.
Thanks for the short video.
I saw a boss “guide” that was over an hour long!
Tbh there are far more annoying enemies in my opinion. I do agree the bikers are annoying though.
1. The dropkick girls especially in groups theyre hard to evade.
2. The muay thai guys.
3. Donovans are so annoying and nuisance for a basic enemy. Their jab is fast and they often break your combo inbetween and run up and uppercut you LOL
galsia with a knife is the issue i have everytime i make a 100+ combo... my points...
