I recently uploaded a video that contained various easter eggs from Streets of Rage 4, and while I found most of the main references there were still a bunch more that I hadn't picked up on. Thankfully, a lot of you noted these in the comments section so I thought I'd go back and visit some of these easter eggs you guys mentioned as well as others I had discovered myself. Hope you enjoy!

Dotemu has stated in a forum that there will be DLC in the quote below. What do we wish to see from them?
“There are many questions about the potential DLC, so I'll give an answer here: We have many ideas, and we really want to add more content in the future. But nothing has been decided yet, so we are listening to you and will let you know "what" and "when" soon :)”
I mean they already have Max in the game, so playable SOR4 Max should be the first DLC they get out...
My ideas;
Combo trainer/dojo mode.
Make SoR4 version of Max playable, but give him a move-set redesign to make him different from his SoR2 version. Maybe give him an air-grab back breaker move like Hugo from Street Fighter III or someway to "power up" his throws by holding the attack button then releasing for more AoE damage.
Would like to see some old bosses return, Jet, Antonio, Big Bear... Mr.X?
Would like to see a grimey circus/fairground stage, with neon lights. Bring back the jugglers from SoR1. Maybe a fight with Abadede in the big top at the end?
Survival/Never ending elevator stage, how many floors can you survive?
DLC should consider the following...
Game Rebalance... The game mechanics need to be rebalanced for combat. Having only one character able to run, and one able to dash is mind boggling. Although similar to SOR2 its unfortunate making majority of the cast walk considering the different play styles. Give characters different mobility options to balance out the difficulty of the game and create more diverse play styles. Give Axel his roll, Blaze should be able to backflip, etc.
Buff the characters damage and or i-frames... too many enemies have armor and priority while you have nothing in this game. Im not asking for an advantage, I'm asking for balance (if enemies have armor on wake up, give me armor or i-frames on defensive special).
SOR 4 Character Roster - Add SOR4 MAX give him all moves from 2 esp slide blitz... but tweak and improve it for the new style and gameplay.
Hint at potential playable SOR4 Shiva, and or Skate, its been years (26yrs since, please bring back everyone... cherry is not a replacement for skate, no excuses)
Return of Older enemies/ Boses - Would rather have Yasha and Onihime from SOR3 replace Beyo and Riha in the art gallery. Abadede can replace MAX if you are playing through as Max. Bring back Bear jr., add in Electra, male bikers, ninjas in chinatown maybe?...There are just too many recycled bosses in this game... only Estelle should be fought twice (for story purposes - her boss fights are 🤦♂️ btw) and the game could benefit from more mini bosses and less recycled enemies...
Look people have waited a long time for something like this game... its an amazing game so far but I feel it lacks the real attention to the SOR mechanics, lore, and moxie. Go all out! Guard Crush it!! I feel the devs could have done more...I would have rather waited longer if the game could have more diversity of enemies, better bosses, and better movesets..🤷♂️.
@@graysonbrown9778 I disagree about about adding more movement options to the characters, I think it's diverse as it is.
Axel and Blaze are your standard beat em up characters. Axel being more powerful, Blaze being faster.
Cherry is insanely fast.
Floyd is the slow but has the most power and range.
Adam is good mix of Cherry and Axel.
I agree, more Bosses would be great. Too many repeated ones.
Bring back a new re-imagined Zamza with skillset...Bring back alternate routes (i.e SOR3) in story mode...where different routes create an alternate ending(s).
SoR4 is what happens when you have new developers who are true fans contribute to a classic franchise and do it out of love not just for a pay check.
Same with Sonic Mania which was what happened when Sega allowed Sonic fans who have the passion and skills to make an official game (and I ain't even a Sonic fan but could tell Mania was done with love).

There’s a lot of graffiti on the pier stage near the arcade saying “where’s my pixels?! Pixels aren’t dead” was a response to the backlash from earlier trailers of rage 4 when people didn’t like the hand drawn art and asked for the old designs.
Great video but “Do Joe” music is refereeing to samouraï showdown on Neo Geo :)

The car is based on design documents of SoR2's first level but was scrapped due to hardware limitations. It was the team's choice to bring the concept to fruition.
I think he mentioned that in part 1
Its also in sor remake, which I believe was a big influence for obvious reasons
On the stage 4 Against cop Estel, there's the ball " WILSON " from the movie "CAST AWAY" on the ground in front on the boxes
In addtion to all the easter eggs pointed out here and in the previous video, don't forget to read the graffiti throughout the game. Some of my favorites:
-in the second part of stage 1, one of the train cars in the background has "R.I.P. Mister X"
-in the holding tank at the beginning of stage 2, someone with a grudge has scrawled 'kill Axel Stone'
-on another wall of the same room, there's been a hasty attempt to scrub out "F--K DA POLICE"
-on the old pier there are several lines alluding to pixels, one of which you can see at 2:59 in the video ('pixels not dead'), while another says 'where's my pixels.' Likely a reference to the fans who were upset at the first reveals SOR4 was going with its different art style
-high up on the bridge support in the background where you fight Barbon is written 'Jet was here'

The mosaic of Mr. X is laid out like some ancient grave markers. It is likely that that is intended to be Mr. X's grave.
There's also four turtles and a rat painted and shinobi in the sewers in the underground (stage 5)
That was already mentioned in his previous video, i believe.
Lots of little pieces, that makes the mastepiece!
Played this a few days ago - amazing game and some good nostalgia. I felt like they could have done so much more with additional characters and even the storyline as well.
5:16 neat refference, i would argue that they still are, and they are just doing their job as cops
The crashed car on stage 1 has the number plate 'SE-0209-91'. Im gonna interpret this as SEGA ENTERPRISES 2nd SEPTEMBER 1991, the release date of SOR1 in Japan (This could be an incorrect easter egg though as SOR1 in Japan released in August not September of 91)

At the end of stage 5 "Underground", during the fight against Barbon, you can see in the background, on one of the bridge's pilar "Jet was here".
It's a reference to SOR 2 flying boss's Jet that we fought precisely on a bridge being built.

Two of the cops are named after supporting characters in Sonic the Comic's Streets of Rage comic strip; Ferrocio and Murphy.

In the Art Gallery when you fight multiple Victoria's in the Redcoats throwing the grenades is a reference to final fight when you fight see the red Hollywoods throwing Molotov cocktails
I think the Victorias are essentially the jugglers from SOR1 just female and only throw one at a time... at least that was my take on them. Kudos for the Final Fight reference 🤛.
Victorias are definitely a Final Fight rip-off. There are actually quite a few of those.
Floyd is the biggest example. Pun intended :-)
If they add an expansion with more levels with previous SOR bosses, i would buy it.
Your second idea is in the game if you're playing the Survival mode
There are bad guys in the background of the underground stage building/installing giant speakers. Also that last one is a gimme....that’s supposed to be Mr. X’s tomb I’m pretty sure.
They're even installing them on the rooftop stage right before Kawashiro. it exlplains why some of them fight you with hammers.
I think Mr X portrait in the final boss fight is in fact Mr X grave

The two strongest variants of Galsia, Jonathan and Joseph, are based on the protagonists from the first two parts of Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. They can both be fought on the last stage if you want to check!
I didn't put that together. Makes sense. Explains the palette choices on them as Araki would do crazy shit like randomly making his characters green and purple for just one page without explanation.

they have been named Johnathan and Joseph since SOR2 so I doubt it

I think i have one that hasn’t been mentioned. The music when entering the castle on stage 12 is a nod to the castle crashers game and music. Epic game.
I don't know if it's been pointed out yet, but in the dojo in Chinatown, there's one room where a group of Muay Thai fighters enter after the room is surrounded with fire I think this is a reference to a scene in The Protector staring Tony Ja. A very cool martial arts movie.

A lot of awesome ideas that were mentioned and I can't add to them, but just one that I don't think was touched on: the enemies of the earlier concept sketches in the *extras* menu. I rather, like the design of just about all of them and I'd like to see them be developed into future thugs or bosses.
From what I noticed, the mask shop just before the Dojo in China Town looks like there’s a reference to the character Kick Ass. The green and yellow design seems pretty close in my opinion. Awesome content! Loved noticing all these Easter Eggs and references!!!

I always thought Chinatown was a reference to Final Fight 2, with Chun Li eating noodles in the BG, lol
But I never noticed the Kick Ass in there either.

There are two you missed:
1-- The more aggressive cop named "Barney" may be a reference to "Barney Fifer" of Andy Griffin Show.
2-- There is a Dragon Ball Z reference during the fight with the boss of the ship level. When Nora whips one of the guys their hair turns blonde and their names then end in a power scream (example Galaisaaaaaa).
More likely that the Barney cops are a Half Life reference; not many people would get a Barney Fife reference.

But to miss the portrait of Joe Musashi - that was pretty heavy...and nonetheless i did :-)
However, i did notice some other things that you didn't. One - in the biker bar, a slightly modified
(but still very much recognizable) guitar riff from Born to Be Wild is being played...plagia...
Another one is in the DJ K-washi fight. A segment clearly ripped from Shadow of the Beast 1
music is played there. There is probably more. SOR series are known for blatantly taking
someone else's work in music. I'll keep an eye open for more. Visual, and audible details.
Three - Goro, the karate guy, seems like a reference to Sensei Mas Oyama...
Four - Chinatown, the first segment - refers to Chun Li stage from Street Fighter II.
Sorry, but i call bollocks on the Barbon-Mercury theory. He looks much more like a French savateur from
the early 20th century...and since the game is French, i'll attribute Barbon to the classic savate homage.

@@archersterling6726 It's not about aggressive. You are probably just too used to the classic SOR2 gameplay,
not unlike myself. I've had that problem for a week or so. The key is to understand that this game doesn't
play like SOR2 (more like a clone) - in terms of how the defensive special works. IN SOR2 - it would trigger
in any scenario, and very fast. Here - it can only work if you are not under attack. So you can't let enemies
get close like you could in SOR2, you have to consider the extra distance with this move. In SOR2 - you also had more level space, and weapon control was tighter. Finally, SOR4 is based on certain "do's" and "don't's" - which are pretty strict. If you're used to SOR2 - then it will feel restrictive, and it won't go away - even if you
"git good". Once you get a grip on the "do's" and "don't's" - the game will flow very naturally.
You'll get A-ranks in all levels soon after that. Up to 'Hard' difficulty for sure. Getting S-ranks,
or A-ranks on Hardest or Mania - will take more practice. It is much more challenging (more like by
the numbers and a little luck). But not impossible. Good Hunting!
I luv that the put a Fready Mercury character in the game..now if only Robocop was possibly playable.
I doubt Murphy is exactly the same character who helped you in the first Streets of Rage. After all, he was fighting AGAINST corruption there.
Beating up the car is correct, but the car crashing into the enemies was planned to be in SOR2, but was scrapped due to hardware limitations.

Just saw a video yesterday of Axel doing the infinite Jab Jab turn then Jab Jab to and enemy.
But it goes jab 3x, kick for stun lock, then jab jab turn jab stun lock animation returns jab 3x, kick for stun lock, repeat process
I really am itching for new content here. Hell I wish that SEGA or whoever would green light a Streets of Rage 5 from this team maybe this time with Skate and his crew having to clean up the loose ends that Adam etc missed from some underground syndicate?

0:30 thats actually incorrect. Digital Foundry did a Doc about it where they specifically show Jordie (lead game Dev) say that the car was originally planed for SOR2 but due to limitations they took it out. guard Crush Games wanted to model the first stage after the one in SOR2, so they added the car to SOR4 to pay homage
Can't it be both? The fact the car crashes is a homage to the SOR2 idea. That it sticks on the screen for you to bash it after is a Final Fight nod. It could have just blown up or disappeared.

SOR was a blatant ripoff of Final Fight. So whether it was a stolen idea in the 90s or an homage from the new developers, the car smashing is from Final Fight either way.

Remember, Sega and Nintendo were rivals back in the day for yrs and Sega had to create a game on par with FF. Thus, SOR was born and FF is good, but I've always enjoyed the sor series the most. The soundtrack alone is a reason. (Another, classic Genesis sor style brawler was "Two Crude Dudes").
The music in Stage 9 where you go up the elevator and crash through the glass is based on Barry Manilow. I forgot what it is called but its starts like "Oh Mandy!!". Yes, its Oh Mandy. Nice Easter egg there lol.
I ever knew Old pier is the "Dreamer" stage.
The 2d scene on stage 3 feels like a reference to Old Boy.
I'm so glad someone else noticed that, especially since you get the hammer on that stage! Also Oldboy is my favorite movie.
The car in stage 1 is also something cut from sor2. They wanted the car to crash in level 1 in sor2 but had to take it out due to time.
grafiti on the wall of the barbon fight says Jet... and it's written high up on a pillar so only Jet could reach it :D
Murphy was actually a fan name for that cop believe it or not. He never was given an official name so this is basically acknowledging that.
He was called Murphy in the Streets of Rage strips in Sonic the Comic from the early 90s.
Looks like the music in train stage are remix of soundtrack from the nes game "Battle Formula"
The destroying car is not really a reference to Final Fight. Its just an beat m up trope.
The red goros attack is based on Fist of North Star game for Master System (which was redrawn and rebranded as "Black Belt")
One more Easter egg when playing as Floyd in level 2.... REVENGE AND JUSTICE!

The track Do Joe is also a slower remix of the fight with Yamato from SOR 3
I think the Car Wreck in the first stage is a reference to a cut idea from SOR2, where a car in the background was originally gonna crash in the first stage. It was something a developer mentioned I believe.
It could also be a reference to the iconic bonus stage in Final Fight and Street Fighter 2 where you must destroy a car
2:03 I know...I didn't have the guts to beat him up at first, it was this close to weep when he oppose us as an enemy, then I couldn't hold it any longer when Estel called for back-up

The more I get used to Streets of Rage 4 the more I find it feels more like a professional fan game than a real entry in the series.
Well, it is basically a professional fan game. None of the original Japanese devs took part in the development , not even Sega. It's a game by a whole new bunch of people from different country

Roo is also in the bar stage behind the bar shining glasses.
Oh yeah Roo can be found in the Barbons Place in the Underground level when you go up in the upper floor.
The car smash minigame was also a Street Fighter 2 and Super Street Fighter 4 bonus stage
I always thought Barbon was a reference to Jean claude van damme from kickboxer, when he gets drunk and fights in the bar. Their outfits are almost identical

-Maybe its me but the double dolphins seen at 4:23 might either be a reference to Ecco the Dolphin or Sonic Adventure 2's logo
-According to TV Tropes, the intro of "Rising Up" sounds like a remix of Cyanide&Happiness theme song
-Near the arcade machine at 3:12 you can see two graffities one saying "Where are my Pixels" and "Pixels NOT DEAD"(this one is a reference to the album made by The Exploited called "Punks Not Dead") and I may be wrong but there seems to be a Creeper "face" below "PIXELS"
-Is that me or the speaker at 1:13 looks like a mix between GlaDOS(body) and Claptrap(head) ?

Yeah it's a reference to that humongous one erected in France. Was surprised to see that lmfao.
Even more:
* There are at least two Danganronpa references with the enemies of the game; Dylan seems to be based on Kazuichi Souda, and the cyborg enemy Koobo's name is similar to that of Keebo.
* One of the DLC variants of Koobo is known as Zeebo, in a reference to the failed console by TecToy, SEGA's Brazillian partner.
* The cop enemy default names are based on minor characters from the Streets of Rage Fleetway comic.
* Some of Barbon's hit sounds seem to be based on Charles Martinet's Mario voice, a likely nod to the console wars.
* The design of Goro seems to be based on Goro Daimon from The King of Fighters.
* One of the masks in Chinatown bears a resemblance to a certain OTHER Blaze also under SEGA's ownership...
* There are also many, many, many references to fan games of the series. Shiva creating doppelgangers was first seen in "Streets of Rage Z", for one.

To further the Freddie Mercury thing, there looks to be a lot of bikes about... Could there be a (Motor)Bicycle Race about to start? (Bicycle Race was also on the same double-A side with Fat Bottomed Girls.)

I think thar the judo guy name "goro" is an easter to Goro Diamond From King of fighters

All of the cops are references to fairly famous policemen in media, save Ferrocio who you identified as being from the comics.
You have Dick (Dick Tracy), Barney (Barney Fife), Lou (the black cop from Simpsons, though maybe there's a more famous one I'm forgetting), and even the initial shield guys in Murphy (RoboCop).
I'm not sure if there's an Officer Dunphy I'm unaware of for the black shield guys on the Airport stage.
The shield guys with tasers, Sand, are paired with bodyguards named "Iron", which, "Iron and Sand" is a saying of some kind which meaning I don't really know. Just that I've heard it a lot.
Maybe the show ironside?

If you look on the right on the exact screenshot where you showed the Mario pixel art graffiti, you can notice another graffiti saying "2 Rivière". As the main composer Olivier Derivière is french and 2 is spelled "deux" but pronounced "de" we can definitely say that he left his mark there !
Why did Shiva call Axl "brother"? Was it an homage to Double Dragon's Billy and JImmy Lee? Maybe a shout out to Dragon Tiger Gate's Tiger Wong and Dragon Wong (as Dragon had worked as a gangster boss's muscle/bodyguard at the beginning of the movie)? Whatchya'll think?
That's all a very good theory. What I got from the scene was when there's that martial arts camaraderie/respect between evenly-matched warriors and so, he calls Axel "brother." He respects Ax's skill enough to consider him, like a "friend/brother."
@@smartie354 But on wikipedia for sor which may not be reliable info but for the most part they're pretty reliable, it was mentioned that Axel and Shiva were rivals in the first 3 games. That makes sense giving they opposed each other at the time. However Shiva is pretty much reformed now. Nonetheless it's safe to say they respect each other skills and capabilities

Yea, I've played all 3 sor games and know the lore. Yep that's all true.
Adam's character model is a nod to the 80's cartoon C.O.P.S and the character Bulletproof.
