  • This is not a demo, or a sales channel, or a business, (you'll see that by the low quality) I just see a lot of posts about these various items and wanted to show how I have them working together in a practical environment. Give me a like if you want more and I'll do some about each of the individual items in the rig rather than just an overview. Many thanks for watching.

      @@davidupton8100 Hi Dave. After watching every FTP videos on UA-cam, I'm hoping you'd be the one who can answer this question for me since you're also using your FTP/FS1 with a Roland module. When I'm controlling the module with my keyboard, I can change patches on the module itself but when I use the FTP/FC1, I can only do this with the up/down buttons on the FTP and FC1. I lose the ability to change patches on the module. What settings do I need to change in the FTP? Thank you so much!

      @@hienvu1714 Hi, I would need to remind myself how to do it but I think there are two options. The FC1 can be configured to pass the midi through. Or, you can setup your hardware config in the software so each patch in the Triple Play can send on a patch change to the Roland. These hardware profiles are created in the Triple play software and downloaded into the device. I'm away at the moment but I can remind myself how this works when I'm back. I always created the hardware configs as you can then change the Octave for the bass patches, and change the bend for instruments when you can bend notes.

    I can load up to 200 patches onto the triple play unit on the guitar. This then sends a wireless signal to the K1 which does what it says. It just switches the patches up/down and displays the name of the patch. it can not store any data. You can go from the K1 F/S to your PC or direct to your audio source via whatever chain you want to make up.

    David..... I am so grateful I stumbled on this video. I am an old disabled dude (turn 60 soon), been playing all my life, but unfortunately do to health issues quit playing guitar 4 years ago , moved and never setup my home Ableton studio which has sitting in boxes (mics, computer interface, midi controllers, tons of VSTs , boutique analog foot pedals, analog synths etc. . Plus two Godin analog guitars equipped with internal Fishman TriplePlay so no external pickup or control until is mounted on guitar. Nobody could ever figure out what the heck was going because all they saw was me holding a normal a normal looking strat or hollow body not knowing it was FTP equipped. I could go wirelessly into any amp and combine both MIDI & analog and even trigger my external MOOG synth with my MIDI guitar. But to do that live means bringing a laptop with Ableton so I have access to all the cool VSTs or an Ipad with the Fishman app. I was planning on buying a HELIX 6 or LT this week and once you mentioned the Variax, I realized I would be missing out on some cool ideas if I purchased a HELIX 6 without a Variax guitar. So thanks for inspiration and will be buying both Variax, HELIX and external FTP pickup this week. But I am a tad confused about what MIDI module are you using for the FTP? The Helix is for the guitar and variax so how do you use the Triple play live? Also, without an analog signal going into Helix and just digital out from Variax, can a wah wah pedal be inserted in signal chain? It's been years so I am feeling a tad dumb at the moment and greatly appreciate any advice.🙏

    Great sounds! If I understand the discussion, the Fishman FC-1 eliminated the latency problem, but you say in the comments you have since cut the FC-1 out of your chain, and send the Tripleplay signal directly to the MidiPlus Sound Module (?) (with no latency?). If you have uploaded the video describing that, I can't find it. Although I don't have the Tripleplay yet, this is all very interesting and helpful. Thank you!

      @davidupton8100  4 роки тому

      Oren Tikkanen Hi sorry, I get so many notifications about other things, I often miss ones related to my own videos. I think the latency is in the software not the hardware or hardware driver, eg I bought a USB to Lightening adapter and plugged it into my phone and iPad using Garage Band and in both cases there was virtually no latency. Also if I just use it to send midi to my Studio 1 software it’s virtually zero latency, or any hardware synth for that matter. It’s just when I use the FTP software I get big latency. The benefit of the MidiPlus is it has a USB input although a few people have said it has a limited number of good sounds because it only has a GM sound set. I still use it but also have bought a 1998 Roland JV1080 off eBay which is epic but I’m having to use the FC1 to convert the USB to a DIN midi output (a very expensive solution). Are you going to play live or with a PC to hand?

    Hello David, Thank you for your informative videos! Great work! I'm considering the Triple Play and FC-1 Controller and have a couple questions. Hopefully you might help me out if you know the answers.
    1. I have a number of hardware synths that I control on different midi channels via a keyboard controller into a midi splitter and out to the various synths. Can the Triple Play/FC-1 combo transmit more than one midi channel? If so, how many channels? My wish is to input the FC-1 into my midi splitter and control a bunch of different synths on different midi channels. Possible?
    2. Are the presets actually stored on the Triple Play unit? 240? My understanding is that you edit your presets with the Fishman software on your computer and then transfer them to the Triple Play unit. The Triple Play then transmits these presets via the dongle to the FC-1 controller. Correct?
    3. Are all of the FC-1's midi transmitting capabilities (PCs CCS) editted and set up on the software and saved to the Triple Play - which are then transmitted to the FC-1? So, your not really editing anything on the FC-1 itself? Or are you?
    4. How many CCs can be editted and set up per patch?
    Thank you in advance for your time and any help. Best, George

    • @davidupton8100
      @davidupton8100  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comments George. I’ll try my best on some of these.
      1. The TriplePlay is not great with multiple channels. It supports channels 1-6. You can run it in two modes, either a separate channel per string, or all 6 channels sending all strings. If have messed around with software on the PC to remap channels but as I only typically use one Hardware synth I haven’t done much of this.
      2. The hardware presets are just config, so things like FTP behaviour, tuning, patch info to select the right patch on the hardware synth. These are downloaded into the FTP and display on the screen of the FC1. It’s very important to understand the FC1 and the FTP create no sound and hold no sound presets. Some people think the software synth sounds they setup in the FTP software can be downloaded, but they can’t. The only thing that is getting downloaded is the hardware setting for each hardware preset for use with an external synth. So you are correct.
      3. You’re correct, setup on software, download to FTP and then transmitted to FC1.
      4. I don’t think any CCs can be setup per patch, I think the FTP uses CCs to deliver FTP specific capabilities like pitch bend etc. You can setup some ccs in the FC1 for things like hold pedal.
      I have a bit of video of the hardware setup in the FC1 software which I could share with you, I’ll send a different link. It might help.
      Dave

      Here’s a video I made for someone else who had questions around pitch bending. I think there is enough in here to help show how it works. On this occasion I have the FTP USB dongle plugged directly into the PC but you could ply it into the FC1 and then plug the FC1 into the PC via the supplied USB cable and get the same results. I just tried this video after uploading and it was very blurry but I think it’s the connection I am on. Let me know if the quality is too poor ua-cam.com/video/vE0rM7j1XDQ/v-deo.html

      @@davidupton8100 You're the man! Many thanks for your insight and for taking the time - very generous of you. I'm sure I'll end up buying this combo because it's really the only effective system on the market for controlling hardware synths. I completely understand that there are no sounds on the FTP or FC-1; I did not quite understand where the preset info and commands lived, though - FTP vs. FC-1. I hope and wish I can use all 6 channels to control 6 different synths, although really, even if I can only control one synth, 240 presets is a humungous wealth of sounds. I can have a lot of fun with that. I only use my DAW for recording - I'm into hardware rather than VSTs, plug-ins and the like. I guess I could just use the dongle directly with a synth without using the FC-1, but then like you said, scrolling and naming/knowing your presets becomes more challenging. Cordial greeting.
    David ... What a great video! I have an electric guitar and a POD XT Live pro Guitar tone. I am looking for a team that connecting it to my POD XT Live can give me the versatility I need in the sense of converting the sound of my electric guitar to that of a classic acoustic guitar with great and realistic sound in real time (instantly ... just pressing a pedal or swich), not just for studio recording, but mainly during a live performance (for tracks that require instant guitar sound changes during your performance, such as from a classical acoustic guitar, to a distorted high gain ) and without losing the sounds that my current equipment (the POD XT Live) also offers me.
    For the above I find your video very interesting, however, you can only see the Fishman TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar product (installed on your guitar). In the title of the video you also mention the “TriplePlay Foot Controler”. I am analyzing if the product called "TriplePlay FC-1 Controller" is what I need to achieve the above. Since you do not see that equipment that you have outside the video image, please confirm the following ... (sorry if you have surely made it clear in the video, but I do not understand much English)
    1. Is that "TriplePlay Foot Controler" mentioned in the video title exactly the same "TriplePlay FC-1 Controller"?
    2. If the answer is yes… would the “TriplePlay FC-1 Controller” and the “TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar” necessarily have to be purchased and used together to achieve what I am looking for? Or would it be enough just to connect the “TriplePlay FC-1 Controller” by USB to the POD? No computer involved?
    3. Is the “MIDIPlus” necessary? What function does it have in the system? Couldn't the "TriplePlay FC-1 Controller" be connected directly to the POD XT live?
    I thank you in advance for your kind comments and clarifications to answer any questions and know what equipment I must acquire to use it together with my POD. Regards.

    • @davidupton8100
      @davidupton8100  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Juan
      Thanks for your kind words.
      What the TriplePlay does and how it works can be quite confusing. The TriplePlay uses a pickup to create midi messages to send to a midi synth module whether that be a software synth on a computer or a hardware synth like the MidiPlus. The synth is the item that then creates the sound.
      The TriplePlay will not take a normal guitar feed and convert it. The normal guitar would continue to run in parallel.
      With regards the TriplePlay FC1, this is a foot pedal that makes routing of midi messages and switching of patches easier when using the TriplePlay guitar pickup. Again this does not process or produce any sound.
      With regards to what you are trying to achieve, you could buy the Fishman TriplePlay pickup and then connect this to a computer with a software synth on to create a classical guitar sound. This could then be output to the POD and you could switch between the guitar input and the synth input. My only word of caution is that a midi pickup relies on tracking and interpretation of the guitar so may not give you the perfect acoustic experience you are looking for.
      If you want switching guitar simulation then a Variax guitar would allow you to instantly switch between electric guitar and steel string acoustic. For some reason they don't do nylon simpluations on the Variax electric, but do do it on the very old (2004) Variax 700 acoustic which has steel string and nylon simulations but not the electric.
      So, if I were wanting do do all three (electric, nylon and steel string acoustic) I would use a mixture of the variax and the fishman TriplePlay, with the TP using a very good nylon midi synth sound. That does all get a bit expensive though.
      I hope this helps.
      And to re-confirm, the FC-1 alone will not do what you want it to.

    • @juancarlospv2663
      @juancarlospv2663 4 роки тому +1

      Hi David ... thank you very much. From my accounts, I understand that the MidiPlus easily replaces the function of the computer and the software that creates the sound. You would therefore need the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar (which converts the acoustic signals of each string into MIDI messages), the MIDIPlus (which creates the sound for the received MIDI signals) and the TriplePlay FC-1 Controller (with which you select the MIDI sounds easily as a floor control) to achieve what you want without requiring a computer. I do not understand why they will not integrate the MIDIPlus with the TriplePlay FC-1 controller in a single device as a more simplified alternative option, or even, instead of directly converting the acoustic signals, requiring that hardware conditioned to the guitar, avoid all that and convert to MIDI the same electrical signals coming from the guitar pickups (audio signals as they are called) as some plugins do, and they process all of this on a single controller with the floor or console function. In short, they are technical subjects that they know better.
      I have had a good idea of what the TriplePlay Wireless MIDI Guitar does, but now I understand the specific function of that little device called MidiPlus and that of the TriplePlay FC-1 Controller thanks to your kind and clear explanation. Connected to my POD, then allow me to switch (interrupt or allow) the pitch of the signal from the normal guitar pickups, with the pitch of the MIDI pickup signal to switch between a sound processed by the POD and a processed sound by the MIDI system. I imagine that for this they may have to do of course a double action ... flip a switch on the TriplePlay FC-1 to interrupt or allow the passage of the MIDI signal, as appropriate, and instantly select the sound on the POD that I require. Although relatively easy, it doesn't seem very practical especially if I need to make that change in a fraction of a second during a live performance.
      David, I am very grateful for your kind attention and explanation. I think that, apart from the other option you mention with a variax guitar, it is the best option available without incurring the purchase of more guitars, and I still find it quite attractive. I will surely consult system prices and get to it, unless I find something even more practical and advanced for this purpose with professional level results. Regards

      Juan Carlos Patiño Velásquez no problem, glad to help. If it’s any help, I feed my hardware synth output into my Helix effects return left and right and then block or use this depending on the pedal settings, this enables me to switch in an instant.
