I realize Cassandra is very similar to Catra from She-Ra and The Princesses of Power because both are close best friends who became enemies, and they shared an abusive mother figure who favored the protagonist over them. And they both feel like the protagonist gets everything. I guess Shadow Weaver is a lot like Gothel, but she kinda mellowed out.

I don’t think Cassandra could have actually ever killed Rapunzel. Her hair is way too strong. Actually nvm she probably could when they fought during Cassandra’s Revenge. She should of stopped Rapunzel from awakening the Sundrop using the incantation. Every single time after Cassandra’s Revenge however rRapunzel shouldn’t have held back. She could of ended it right then and there.

honestly her motivations make complete sense to me. it's the extent to which she's able to turn her back on her friends in order to achieve them that rubs people the wrong way. but the way i see it, Cass was always kind of a loner? she never got along great with the other group members past mere acquaintanceship. Raps was her only friend. and when Raps became the source of her derision - she no longer had any reason to stick around with them. or anyone. in her eyes, her father betrayed her by lying, her best friend, who she'd always felt had an easier time coasting through like due to her personability and good attitude - was also the source of her misery via losing her Mom - and while that isn't a logical conclusion to make, we've seen that Cass is incredibly quick to judge and steel herself from others when she perceives them as having what she doesn't - having it "too good" or having a strong sense of destiny that she felt they haven't "fought for" as much as she has. it's why she was so quick to discount Eugene, who she perceives as an happy-go-lucky oaf who only got Rapunzel out of the blonde's *superhuman* level of empathy. it's part of why she realizes she was wrong about Rapunzel at first, who actually did have to work for her destiny and displays kindness not as naivete, but because it's the best possible outcome.
this is only changed when she realizes Rapunzel ALWAYS had a natural destiny with the saga of the black rocks. and that she was the reason Cass's biological Mother left, and was the one raised by her. because a Mother is the one person that Cass believes would've loved Cass unconditionally. and the one person that should've been there for her in her happily ever after, like Rapunzel. in her eyes, her father hadn't loved her unconditionally - as the "conditions" her father had for her involved keeping her as a handmaiden and away from the defender role (her own sort of destiny) she craves. indeed, her father does have a certain view of Cassandra as having to be raised "conditionally" - hence why he initially believed he could start over and "raise her right" on the island, instead of facing the fact that the only way to raise her is to accept that who she is isn't necessarily what he wants her to be. and to her, this is no different from the conditions everyone's had for her from day one - they don't like her roughneck attitude or her cynical view of the world. like the arena game. it was Rapunzel's sweet "naivete" and personability that allowed the fighters to love her, whereas Cassandra's walls and projected coldness caused them to resent her - no matter how much they embodied these traits themselves. and that ties back to one of the core themes of the original Tangled - that love begets love, and violence begets violence (hence how she was able to convince the Duckling patrons to help her when Eugene turned them away).
sorry it's like almost 2 am and i have an unhealthy fixation on Cassandra lmao. i do think we could've had these points better EMPHASIZED in the show, but i don't think they weren't there.
Her villain arc COULDVE been well written, but I love my girl regardless 🙌🏻

but no yeah Cass isn't coming at it out of a genuine belief that Raps purposefully has sabotaged Cass and her destiny, she just resents what she perceives as success and privilege that's been afforded to her thru familial ties and friends that never came easily to Cass.
like she was best friends with a Princess who literally no one hated except some random baker, it's natural she'd have SOME jealousy - which is shown as far back as the arena episode. the tipping points came in regard to A. learning that she DID have familial ties that explicitly chose Rapunzel over her and B. Zhan Tiri claiming Rapunzel's quest would destroy the destiny that Cassandra was supposed to claim (the moonstone).

I'm exactly like Cass at some point, and I couldn't help myself to make my "bestfriend" as a "rival" due to our fate compared.. Also, I wanted to prove everyone WRONG, ESPECIALLY THE PEOPLE WHO UNDERESTIMATED ME, AND to lose my doubts and my weakness...
Since I noticed our similarities, I tried to calm down, but I'd still feel angry everytime I'm with my bestfriend... And I still am...... I still wanted to see her fall, despite her best efforts... I feel taken for granted by her.....
She's evil but dang, I love her design contrasting with Rapunzel's. The princess stressing about getting a friend back vs the warrior having the time of her life with all that power.
