    The food market is Saluhallen, it’s a indoor food market with a few restaurants inside, butchers and so on in central Gothenburg.

      We had fish and chips last time we were there, best in Sweden, and coming from a British ex pat that's pretty high praise.

    Hi Amy,
    Sweden is so beautiful, and a doable trip from the Netherlands. I live in the province of Zeeland, and it was such a fun roadtrip to Åre Sweden, in the middle of winter with lots of snow. Åre is known for wintersports and has beautiful slopes. A town built on the foot of a mountain with a overlooking view on the lake.
    I think that the pink trees are Cherryblossems. There al over europe in springtime. Very prety and romantic.
    I’ve never been to Göteburg but it looks very beautiful and worth a citytrip!
    Love your channel and also Charlie’s channel. Hope you and Charlie can make your dreams come true and live of visit Europe soon.
    Lot’s of love Miranda.

    It's not rock salt on the cinnamon buns, it's actually small bits of pure sugar that we call pärlsocker ( = pearl sugar). Since it's only small pieces instead of frosting spread all over, it makes the bun less sweet. Then the doe is close too not sweetened, but the spread inside is butter, suger, and cinnamon is what makes them so good. Often there's often also cardemom in the doe, and/or also in the spread inside 😋

      Also, that's not a normal coffee. We would call that a caffe latte. More hot milk than coffee. A normal Swedish coffee should be in a traditional coffee cup, or a small sized mug, and it should be as black as sin, and strong enough to make a tea spoon stand on its own in it 😁

      @@t-man78my 9 years older brother taught me to drink coffee when I was 12 and he took me with him to play dnd with his friends.. I was told that thing about the spoon and if I was to drink anything thats all they had.. ever since all coffee for me is bland.. even at Starbucks for an exmple I need to order 2 extra espresso shots to make it drinkable.

    Most places serve coffee like Cafe Latte or Cafe Au Lait in a glass like that. But they usually will do the standard black coffee in a pot, which you do take in a cup or mug, and the standard coffee usually will have bottomless refills.
    Cinnamon buns is a Swedish staple, some might even consider it a basic human right. A good tip for tourists is to go to the local supermarket shortly after they open, they will have warm cinnamon buns much cheaper than a cafe, and fresh baked bread too.
    The covering is pearl sugar, basically little beads of sugar.

    The pink trees are Japanese cherry trees. In Japan they are a big thing and people get a day of the first day of blossom. They have become popular in Sweden the last 20 years. But we don´t get a day of.

    Restrooms are free on the trains themselves and usually fairly clean. Although expect standards to drop in major cities like Stockholm (The worst)
    However the restrooms in the stations themselves usually require payment (10 kronors usually, so about a dollar) Some have attendants and accept coins or cards, some unattended have a card payment system, and it's been a while but there are probably some older coin op bathrooms in more remote locations so it's worth it for a tourist to carry at least a 10kr coin. (You need them for shopping carts too if you plan on buying a lot of groceries)
    I find Göteborg is my favourite city in Sweden, so much to do, easy to get around, even good access to a ferry to Fredrikshavn in Denmark.
    Malmö is a very close 2nd with the bonus of being a very short (and inexpensive) train ride to Copenhagen. (The Tivoli and Xmas market in Copenhagen is magical and a must see if you have kids)
    The more modern trains are excellent, and Sweden is currently in the process of a joint venture with Denmark and Germany for a high speed train network. The Swedish portion will form a triangle between Malmö Gothenburg and Stockholm.
    Regional trains are usually pretty good, although the older SJ trains need some work. (The black trains)
    Word of warning though, as is becoming the normal for travel anywhere, some people will listen to music or videos on their phone with no headsets. However some trains do have a quiet carriage when use of phones is not allowed. Worth knowing about for a longer journey.

    I have a favorite place in the food market ,or as we call it in Swedish Stora Saluhallen, at that like store they have several dishes but i always go for the Gulash soup! You get quite a big portion of soup with pieces of meat and potatoes and it's a lil' spicy as well! The building is located in the heart of the city. Haga used to literally be a one big ghetto up until the early '80s. It was like a area you told people to avoid. Eventually the politicians had enough and wanted to wipe it off the ground! Due to a very strong local opinion the politicians changed their mind. Although some buildings were teared down but many were actually kept and renovated and the newer ones were build in a old style to fit in with the older ones. Everyone in Gothenburg (Göteborg) and around is familiar with Café Husaren and their giant cinnamon buns although many of their other cookies are also unsually big!

    You'll be hard pressed to find a bathroom that is pay only in either Sweden or Norway. I can't remember having to pay to go to the bathroom in Scandinavia at all. Maybe in Denmark? And the food market is internationally famous, and something you have to experience if you go to Gothenburg. God bless and lots of love from Norway.

    • @t-man78
      @t-man78 19 днів тому +1

      It's actually not that uncommon too have too pay for the bathrooms, but it depends on where you are. Basically within our cities, city malls, parks, and bus/train stations, you have too pay like a Euro or so
      (I had too go just the other day, in one of our city malls, just to wash my hands, after my bike chain popped off... Then it was €1.50... a bit too steep I think...)
      However - at gas stations, fast food joints, malls outside the city, stores like IKEA, and so, it's pretty much always free, thankfully... And in restaurant and cafes as long as your a guest and guests. In general the general toilets are quite clean. However, restrooms on trains (like you see in the video) are a bit too often quite messy...

      Usually in places where you've paid to enter or you're a customer where they provide services like bathrooms to make you stay, and spend, longer. They're free.
      Where the bathroom is a part of public amenities accessible by anyone off the streets, like a park or a train station. There often is a small fee to pay.
      On a train, you've bought the ticket to travel on said train. So you can piss for free. 😊

    I think it's a AirBnB

    • @t-man78
      @t-man78 19 днів тому

      It is - and a cheap one! I would say the price is below average here in Sweden. And so, it is actually a private apartment.
      A normal hotel room is probably like most people would expect. A normal hotel room for two people would probably more like €150 a night.
      Bottom line - this couple found a really good deal! 😊

    Those cinnamon rolls are redicilous. Normal ones are so much smaller and nicer.
