The best thing they can do is keep to the books as much as possible, that way they can win over all the book readers (of which there hundreds of millions) and also the movie fans because then they won’t feel like they’re just watching the exact same thing again. Everyone wins if they stick to the book.
I'd watch a series spread out over years. It was clear that they were stressing what to include from the books in later films as the books grew in size as well. I haven't read the books so readers can confirm or correct me on that, but the latter films felt like they were screaming through the pages of the original text. One book per season sounds perfect. Comcast coming off as precious. Gold.
It has been some time since I read the books but they are as I recall vary episodic and some of it will come of a bit weird. Like there is a whole story line about Hermione trying to free the house elves who are pretty much slaves at the school and everyone thinking she os crazy.
The series is a guarantee cash cow for both American And British television so it’s understandable that Comcast/Sky want the licenses to charge their customers more money to subscribe to their service.
I saw somewhere that Peter Capaldi was rumored to play Dumbledore and if that isnt the most perfect casting ive ever heard. Imagine being The Doctor and Albus Dumbledore. You could give me 1000 years and id never get that lucky
One thing I just realised that could be a problem with trying to do a TV series on Harry Potter is the books and the movies were pretty much 95% told from Harry’s point of view which means that the series will likely do the same thing. Considering each season is going to have about 8 to 10 episodes a season is that asking too much for one actor; particularly a child actor?
Sky is absurdly expensive in the UK. if they lost the rights to show things like Last of Us, House of the Dragon, Penguin they would probably end up losing thousands of subscribers. I'd definitely cancel.
Sounds like Theme Park and merchandising rights is what Comcast’s concern is. Universal have a lot of skin in the game with parks in Orlando, Hollywood, Tokyo, etc - If they have to renegotiate that deal for the new HBO series that is going to be a super expensive endeavour for them!
@@Jake_5693 well that too… as John already said… but the above still applies. Universal (Comcast) only has the theme park rights for the Harry Potter films… not the books or the new HBO series. So, my hope is this fails hard enough to where they realize and circle back to the original cast. I think thats what is about to happen with LOTR due to "rings of power."
Comcast now own Sky which is the UKs biggest satellite TV company. Sky for years has hosted HBO content, paying billions for the privilege whilst also signing a contract to co produce certain content. They produced Chernobyl together. The co production deal stated Warner/HBO had to submit at minimum 4 shows up for tender every year that Sky could co-produce. Sky had to take on at a minimum 2 of these shows and fund them 20-25% of the overall budget but Sky (Comcast) could take on more if they wished. HBO/Warner have failed to delivery every single year this deal has been in place, therefore breaking their contract. If Sky are correct with what they’re saying and they have the receipts Warner have fucked up long before HP and they have broken the contract.

The problem with adapting every single word on the page is that it won’t make for very exciting TV series, they need to realise what works on the page doesn’t always translate to the screen which is why certain sub plots and characters were dropped from the movie adaptation. Even Peter Jackson realised that with his LOTR adaptations. I don’t think enough time has passed for this “retelling”, the movies are still recent and very well loved and brilliantly cast, the moment they miss out a section of the books or cast the “wrong” actors for roles, they’ll have lost the fans. A far better idea would be a 5 movie series based on the Marauders at school, alongside the rise of Voldemort, ending with Lilly’s sacrifice and Hagrid dropping off Harry at the Dursleys. They hated her for over 30 years for what she did as the prime minister in the 1980s.
HP isn’t going to be present in the universal park here. They don’t want to pay the money for the rights and the studio tour just down the road prevents them from doing it.
the only thing warner bros should do with the harry potter series is cancel it
Name a single moment David Zaslav actually made a good decision in his run at WBD cause honestly there’s nothing good came out of his atrocious management.
Creating DC Studios, sparing us Batgirl, turning Max into a profitable streaming service (first Hollywood-vased service to do so), excommunicate the likes of Ann Sarnoff, Toby Emmerich and several others, blunt transparency, generate profit from icensing, cutting a CRAPTON of dead weight.
I can go on.

Giving James Gunn the reigns over DC studios.
@@tommietravis5274 Creating DC Studios in the first place. It still amazes me that it took ZASLAV to create a DC vertical completely separate from WB Pictures. How that wasn't created ages ago is beyond me.
Just make the cursed child with the original cast. Nobody wants this show
You don’t understand HP is like an event with particular arcs you can’t get sick of
Nobody wants the cursed child either. It fucked the entire story
just cause you don't want it doesn't nobody wants it
Emma Watson and Daniel Radclife won't come back if J.K. Rowling gets paid.
I sure hope the show is cancelled because of this
I think that the Series isn't going forward, i mean that Comcast is probably going to get the rights to Harry Potter because Warner Bros would write it as a Tax write off, Comcast probably wants it for Peacock TV.
