    Outstanding video!
    Favorite type of fishing.
Videos don't get any better than watching a father fishing with his kids.
It appears the "apples didn't fall far from the tree."
Thanks for a great (therapeutic) few minutes.
    Blessings, In Christ
He recruited fisherman...knowing their optimistic, faithful attitude.
That they understood, "There will be no catch, if the line's not wet."
    TIGHT LINES!

I go to a small creek in Wyoming, usually there all by myself or with my boy, we catch up to 20" plus Rainbows/Tigers all day. Love the small Creeks, great video. I also throw a Spinning Rod.

What a video! I love a backpack, my 3 wt 6 ft Eagle Claw glass rod...and I usually bring a Tenkara rod too. A snack or lunch...a water bottle...heck, I'm in heaven for a day...even if I'm catching bream and creek bass! (I'm 3 hours to the nearest trout water, but I have countless small streams I love to explore within 10 minutes from my door)
Good for you getting the boys involved...even if its extra work!
Our son is 25...he just set up his own trip for me and him...water he picked and we had never been to. we met... hiked in...spent the day, and had a blast. He grew up with me taking him crawling around streams and creeks as much as in canoes and kayaks... today he has his own kayaks...his fishing backpack stays with him in his truck...and he loves to go as much as me...I take the blame! :)

I spend my spring chasing huge pike and all summer chasing cutthroat and bull trout, then into fall where the lake trout and large rainbows are in the shallows of Stillwater and I finish off with Steelhead all winter. In between all of that it’s the tiny 2wt creek fishing with my family that actually makes me the most fulfilled.
Sure, I dream of GT and Mahi Mahi, gar and peacock bass, but it’s the tiny trout and the baby sunfish that make me feel warm and fuzzy.
I literally will spend hours putting down my main rod and take my 2wt to chase the little guys for a few hours. It’s just fun.
    Thanks for reading.

I usually end up without my wading staff also..after someone falls a few times and takes it over. Wow American fly fishers are lucky lads and lasses what a fabulous stream, I have an 8.6” #3 guidelines rod I like for the streams I fish, delicacy is the great appeal of fly fishing, the dog is a super pooch, fish till you drop, and keep the trout farms away from your streams and ocean coast, don’t let them in or they will wreck your wild fishing like they did in British Columbia and the west coast of Scotland.
All the best from the U.K.

I like that rod a lot Joe. Those types of streams are my favorites with 4-5 in the mountains in Utah I can’t get to often enough.
I’ve been fishing a Redington “Classic Trout” 7 ft. 2 wt. Good tip on modifying the leader. I typically just tie about 6’ of 5X tippet to the fly line but I like your method better. Nothing like a lightweight glass or bamboo rod in those little streams.

I have fished these small Rocky Mountain Streams for over 50 years. If you want to catch tiddlers in the 4" to 6" class, us a dry fly. There are, however, much larger fish in these streams. You must use a heavy nymph, say a stonefly, and fish the very bottom of these streams. Pay particular attention to areas just below waterfalls and below large boulders. You will be surprised.

Such is the frustration and folly of the glass waver. I watched patiently through several minutes and many casts and never saw a landed fish before losing interest. Yes, glass rods are loads of fun to cast; true, they are very tough, and definitely they are a real blast when playing fish. Hence the big problem: to play a fish, you must first hook a fish. Glass makes this vastly harder than it needs to be due to its extremely slow action when attempting to set the hook. Little wild trout are quick as lightning. Little glass rods are not. You will have just as much fun and catch loads and loads more fish with a 3 wt., medium fast, graphite stick of 7'6"-7'9" in length. Simply put: your set-up places two major handicaps on you: 1) it puts far too much line onto the water between your rod tip and the fly, and 2) it is just too soft/slow to make what has to be a solid/fast set on the eat.

l always enjoy your videos, joe, especially with the kids. Wish my local grandson would be into fly fishing, but he seems more comfortable with spin casting at this point.

Another bit of advice for guys looking to become more independent as anglers…check the stocked rivers but go WAY out of the way. These rivers are stocked because they’re obviously suitable for trout (cleanliness, ph, temperature, etc)…often times, when you reach the headwaters and the tributaries, that’s where the real magic lies. I’ve found populations of wild brook trout that result in double digit days just by driving a few miles upstream from the crowd…spend some time scouting the headwaters and tributaries of known trout rivers and before long, you’ll have a list of great trout brooks that almost nobody fishes. My current list has 63 spots across two states that I’ve amassed over the years.

Hi Daniel, if you are casting short the RIO Creek Line is tremendous. It's designed to load easy for short casts. Depending on whether you are fishing to spooky rising trout in big spring creek pools, or fishing mountain trout in choppy water I would recommend different lines.
