Well done guys! I live in Western North Carolina. You definitely know how to fish our small streams. I am digging the information you so kindly provided regarding how to fish a small stream. What is really cool, you know your information and you are not arrogant while sharing. Nice job!
Super helpful tips about where to put the flies, and about using darker nymphs in the darker faster water where big rocks are. I also appreciate the idea of using a jig hook to bounce along the bottom. I'm always getting caught on the bottom so sort of avoid nymphing. I love small stream fishing. Thanks for a great video!
Moved to NC after 28 years can’t wait to get to your area....loved fishing the White Mountains of NH and this seems similar ! Great videos love your work ....
The White Mountains rock! Such good wild trout fishing. I found one stream there with crystal clear water that flows off Mt. Washington, and the stream is filled with good sized wild rainbows.
Guys I really enjoy your vids & your tips you present to your following . Well explained and right to the meat of catching . I fish the Catskills of NY btw i'm 63 years old, Keep them coming & be safe
Great job on the video guys. Reminds me of when I flew into Bozeman and camped out on the Galitin and finished. Great memories. Now you just have to figure out how to move there
Just subscribed and you guys have got great info and the camera work is awesome. I like seeing casting and mending and line management and how you work out the problems on the stream rather than just a fly rod bent with a fish on for most of the video! Great job!
Just came across this...Excellent video! Nice to have great info (speaking pace is perfect!), corresponding footage for the tips you give, beautiful footage and gentle handling of those gorgeous fish...all in one video that makes me want to get out on a stream today!😊 Well done!👍
I love the tip about not setting the hook to hard! On smaller fish a hard hook set can turn the fish towards you and with a barbless hook you'll lose them every time.
Hey guys love your videos! I just bought my first go pro yesterday and I’m setting off today to start a fly channel of my own up here in Canada you guys are a huge inspiration so thanks!!
I started tying at 8yr and have been outa the game until recently as ive begun to do hundreds of jigs for river spinning. My question is for heavily bushed creeks, I just made my first leader 5.5' for my 1wt, likely will be doing more jig/drift bottom bouncing than floating. Any advice on leader/indicator for the 1wt bush wacking rig?
Today I caught three brook trout and a brown trout on a fly I tied myself! I never caught any fish without a guide before, or any brook trout, or on a fly I tied myself.
Esibnitsud I have a hard time believing you’ve had some GOOD small stream fishing. I was in the mountains the other day and caught a 90 trout in a few hours. All put up a good fight on a 2 wt and all were natives with beautiful colors.
@@zeroedinwithzeke4059 lol u can believe whatever u want ive caught 15lb bulls in streams as small as the one he fishing plus i liv in mountain cutthroat stream meca for native westslopes
Ever notice how fly fishers do this weird arm WAY up in the air when they catch a fish to avoid pulling the tapered leader though the tip guide? We hate trying to get the junction between leader and line through that guide so much we'd rather ram our rod tip into the trees than fk with getting the leader loop or nail not through that guide lol.
Awesome instructional vid but suckers are actually very important for the stream they keep the water clean, put up a good fight, and should be treated just as we'll as trout
Rod: Allen Heritage 7 foot 6 inch, 3 weight Reel: Redington rise Both rod and reel are absolutly phenomenal. The Allen rod is the best small stream rod I have come across and the price point is very affordable. The reel has been fished for 4 seasons now and is still working in great shape. I'd highly recommend allen rods/reels, if you are interested in any of there products feel free to come by Due South Outfitters and give em a test drive!
Ryan The Rock in smaller creeks like this that aren’t as deep. If you find a super deep run and you don’t see any dry fly activity, then put on a nymph rig and fish it to get your bugs down deep.
From my own experience and from what I've understood from talking with people in the industry flourocarbon tippet holds no significant advantage in visibility to fish. The reason why fluro may be better for nymphing is because it sinks faster and offers more abrasion resistance.
Great tips and fishing. One little tip though on your roll cast, you are kinda just slamming your rod down. Try to get a nice D behind you and then do a rod stop at release like you do with your normal cast
Anytime you see your dry fly no matter what kind it may be make any movement out of the normal drift even if it just barely "bobs" on the surface, set the hook. That indicates that a fish has taken the dropper. If a fish eats the dry fly off the top, set as well. Hook sets are free my friend!
I gotta say, the production, the camera presence, and the info in these videos are top notch.
Thanks, Fred! So glad to hear it.

Great job boys!! Great to see young guys fly fishing and good at it!! Love the sense of humor and adventure. Tight lines!!!
I'm still learning to fly fish, ive been fishing lakes but these videos help me so much . Thanks for sharing.
That was probably one of the best instructional, semi technical fly fishing videos on youtube
Adam Kenney thanks dude🤘🏻
U ever try any of the rubber stone flies
Top notch filming, top notch advice. I love small creek fishing.
Really informative, really enjoyed watching it, small stream fishing is just the best. Well done guys from the UK.

Along with everyone else. Bozeman has been ruined.

What length rod do you prefer for that setting?
Respect that you showed us the broken-rod-moment..had the same ..twice.. was so furious with me I dont know whether I could have shown it!
Nicely done...did I miss what size you are using on the nymphs?
Love watching this! Very instructional. Can you tell me how far your dropper is off your dry? Thanks!
Noel Slater in the video we talk about it but it’s 20-24 inches

I was looking at really nice 200 to 500 rod reel combos and I went with 100 for my first one im glad now
The 3wt Allen heritage is a fine rod. Wish they made it in a 7wt.

What size chubbies and nymphs were you using?
What kind of pants do u wear in the summer when u go fishing in the streams?
isaac kogure I wear the Aftco original fishing pants and absolutely love them! Super light weight and they dry very quickly

The shot of that rainbow hoofin it at top speed back to his spot
What rod length/weight are you using here?
Fantastic content. Seems like you guys are using Allen rods/reels? How do you like them?

If you’re asking about the rod, we were fishing an Allen 3 wt...not sure the exact rod though
Love you boys!!
Do you got any tips for fly fishing Asheville ?
loving your videos. what wt and rod length are you using?
He said it in an older video, 7’6”4wt Orvis Superfine carbon with a 4wt orvis hydros reel

Check your dnr site or go up state wv or va for good trout streams
What is the fly rod type, wt and number of ounces of the fly rod? Enjoyed your video.
Lor Swanson an Allen 3 wt. not sure the exact rod but I know they just discontinued Allen rods
What weight and length fly rod do you typically fish in these type streams?
Usually 1-4
Hey guys, what size is that Frenchie? 14ish?
When would you use a dry/dropper vs an indicator/nymph rig?
Ryan The Rock in smaller creeks like this that aren’t as deep. If you find a super deep run and you don’t see any dry fly activity, then put on a nymph rig and fish it to get your bugs down deep.

Do you think i could get away with a shorter leader in a tight stream?
Yes definitely, you only need a 7 foot leader for a smaller stream
Are you fishing a 3WT rod?

Good video, but word of advice try wet hands before handling trout, as it destroyers protective coating, leading to disease. 👍
