I'm just gonna dump my thoughts on how this film connects to Emesis Blue here. We can see the duality of Red and Blue in both Emesis Blue and Spy's Disguise; its a lot more obvious in emesis blue where the medic seems to have some sort of alter ego that takes pleasure in violence and killing, signified by a red light, and his normal kind and caring personality, signified by a blue light. In many scenes depicting Medic's internal struggles in Emesis blue one half of his face is bathed in red light while the other half in blue light. This represents the medic's internal struggle between two personalities. In this film, we can see the spy's internal struggle represented by Red and Blue yet again. Spy is on the blue team, yet the part of him that is machine, and that compels him to use his power, is all made out of Red metal. The Red Engineer which seems to almost become a malevolent spirit/trauma is Red, and comes back to haunt him. During the scene where Spy refuses to shake the robotic spy's hand, the spy originally appears to be blue, but is quickly bathed in red light as it tries to coerce Spy into taking his hand. The robotic part of Spy, the part of him that is a ruthless killing machine, bathed in red light, seems to be almost an alter ego to the usual blue Spy that is a bumbling, silly idiot, represented by his usual blue. In Spy's Disguise, we see the Medic assumedly from Emesis blue in an earlier stage of his life (shown by his weathered face and habit of crossing his stars, which he does in Emesis Blue too, seems to have become a regular habit) wearing the cross necklace that he got IN Emesis blue. This implies that the respawn machine warps time and reality itself, which would explain the many paranormal time-loop esque occurrences in Emesis Blue. Perhaps the Respawn Machine degenerates the mercenaries' brains so much that it completely destroys their understanding of time itself. I think this film clears up a lot of the mysteries of Emesis blue, especially the time loop stuff.
It was heartbreakingly sad and painful seeing the RED team get killed off like that. Seriously, seeing that fucked me up and stayed with me for a while...
It actually is quite brutal. You're watching these guys die, like, for real. They're not gonna respawn, these guys are gone forever. It's disturbing. Same with the BLU Engineers at the party.
I mean, when you play spy a lot in tf2 then you can clearly see the difference between real teammates and spies, it becomes more obvious. Sometimes even sus I can shoot cloaked spies and hit them 80% of the time lol, and then get called cheater
I think that's what the spy sees at the end, red engi death ringered himself, right before he could die of the log above him, possibly destroying the ringer but he still came back to life...so spy's "dellusions" could be just him seeing the REAL red engi, who is lurking around the corners, just to get his revenge either this or the Spy is gonna be messed up in the head for the rest of his life and possibly be reprogrammed someday...well...however it will take long since he's a mixture of various parts of machinery plus he can customize it apparently, seeing how he could make himself a fucking transformer
@@Kalashimi I think it's more likely that the red spy is still alive, disguised as the red engineer to mess with him. That shot at the end with him smoking a cigarette, conveniently not lining up with his lips despite the realism in the entire rest of the animation... This is a real underrated SFM, and it deserves more attention due to how well this SFM is made through minor details that affect certain sequences. For example the bullet getting stuck in the slide jamming the gun, is something that happens and people don’t realize. Or how about the gore effects, they are so realistic then they needed to be but still work for the film. This overall is a well crafted SFM, and deserves more
I like how loyal blu engineer is to spy. Considering on how on the very 1st chapter spy treated him like shit and releasing his anger to blu engineer at the end blu engi still helped spy by ALOT willing to even sacrifice himself.
I imagine the Half Machine Blu Spy was the one Medic talked about to Scout while driving him to where Scout's Mom lives, given that they probably restarted their BLU respawn machine, tried to respawn him to see if they can make Spy a full human, only for the Machine to break down as it can't replicate a Half Man, Half Machine, so it just slopped out some sort of abomination of scrap and flesh.
@@Iliveinuratticandatethepizza probably couldnt. not just for time and effort either. with something like emesis blue.... its a delicate balancing act where you need to be very careful about what you show from the overall story. that style of movie HAS to hide a bunch of the puzzle pieces, because the entire point is to have the watcher question and try to figure out what will fill in the gaps. being able to link the two videos as they have, with naught but a couple references, a drug, and the respawn machine? Its perfect.
Or mabye... The Spy *IS* the Respawn Machine. Think about it. The original machine breaks, so what does Builders Legue do? Use the Spy as a replacement for cheapness. That's why it malfunctions. It's not a legit Respawn Machine.
This has definetly got to be one of the best SFM animations I have ever seen. It relies heavily and action-packed scenes and default voiceline dialogue and telling the story with different effects and not much speaking, which is an interesting way to approach it. It has also got great lenght, different chapters and lighting, daylight cycles and rain are used well to build up the atmosphere. I also like the small details, like the robotic voices, Red Engineer's paranoid illusions and the bluish tint in The Spy's eyes. Overall, there are just so many great things about this half-an-hour-long SFM animation, that I just can't remember to name them all and I hope this will get more recognition and positive ratings. You can definetly see, that this was made by a group of professionals!
I’ve really gotta praise this for its use of sound effects. Like how the sentry gun noises were used in the music, the Gutiar riffs are used to make scenes either more intense or more fun to watch, and also spy’s robot voice is super badass. I live it so much.

For the first time in all its existance, Source *Film* Maker has been used as intended. This could, and _should_ , be in cinemas. The quality of _every frame_ is as good as the best made SFM posters, which I thought was impossible to do in animation. This shouldn't win a saxxy, it should win _THE_ Saxxy. One special Saxxy just for you, and an offer to work at Valve if you don't already work there. I've read a lot of Team Fortress 2 fanfictions (there are a lot of really good ones even though most are trash) and I love them, because they make me feel like this video did. No other TF2 video made me feel emotions like the ones I feel when reading a good TF2 fanfiction. You are a true inspiration. Thank you.
I wasn’t expecting to see the real voice actors of the classes to be credited at the end… mostly because I haven’t seen it before in a fan made tf2 film.
8 minutes in, this is why I both fear and love Engie. His god complex scares the shit out of me and intrigues me at the same time. My theory on why he was so willing to comply in disabling respawn was because he just couldn’t stand someone being better than him. Couldn’t stand being bested. Thank you, fortress films, for making stuff like this. It’s cool.
I wish more people knew about Spy's Disguise than Emesis Blue. I understood it a lot more than Emesis Blue and saw it years before Emesis Blue was released.
Medic's reaction and silent response towards Engineer and Spy at the end somehow just tells me he's saying: "He doesn't have that much time left before he becomes a machine"

And saving private ryan i think

I imagine the Half Machine Blu Spy was the one Medic talked about to Scout while driving him to where Scout's Mom lives, given that they probably restarted their BLU respawn machine, tried to respawn him to see if they can make Spy a full human, only for the Machine to break down as it can't replicate a Half Man, Half Machine, so it just slopped out some sort of abomination of scrap and flesh.

with something like emesis blue.... its a delicate balancing act where you need to be very careful about what you show from the overall story.
that style of movie HAS to hide a bunch of the puzzle pieces, because the entire point is to have the watcher question and try to figure out what will fill in the gaps.
being able to link the two videos as they have, with naught but a couple references, a drug, and the respawn machine? Its perfect.
