    I think that Hagrid picked up Harry the morning after Voldemort’s curse so it’s probably more like 12 hours that are unaccounted for

    The 7 Harry’s is because of the trace . They knew he was travelling

    I’m pretty sure the reason Hermione did that is because she felt like her parents would refuse to leave otherwise.
    Or it could be possible that she hadn’t told them anything about the war to avoid worrying them and possibly making them pull her out of hogwarts, therefore meaning it would be very difficult for her to explain why she would be leaving and not knowing when she’d return, and wiping their memories would save time and any potential arguments that could come from that.
    Also, sending them to Australia is good because the death eaters aren’t going to have any idea that they’ve gone there, and even if they search the house, they’d only know they’d left the house and could literally be anywhere in the world.
    Don’t think you’ve completely thought that one through tbh. Also, possibly Hermione could have told the order that there would be potential complications with getting her parents to comply with them, so they should just leave them to her.
    Also, your linked video at the end is on the wrong side of the screen! 😂

    Nobody believing Harry of Sirius’ innocence and Voldemort’s return when they could have just seen his memories in the pensive

    Hermione may have done it so that her parents would leave. Still knowing their daughter is there and in danger could have given them some reason to stay or seek to help in some way. I get that its iffy but making them forget would make them less of an easy target for instance if legimency was used. Makes them less likely to slip up and say who they are or give away their true identity.

      Yeah. I mean, as a parent, if my child says they're in terrible danger and so I have to go to a distant continent and never speak to him again or know what's happening - NOT GONNA HAPPEN. She did it because she had good parents who would never have willingly abansoned her to protect themselves and might not be able to do it even to protect her.

      That's what I was going to say! She removed their memories of her so she 'could' move them to Australia. No way any GOOD parent or carer would leave their child to go to war without them. The Dursley's didn't care about Harry so they were ok with it.

      there is also another factor.
      As presented in Goblet of Fire a memory modification charm can be broken - Tom did it on Bertha Jorkins to discover BC Junior is alive.
      So that's why she forced em to move to Australia, to make it harder to track her parents. It's not like it's impossible, but she just increased the amount of effort that needs to be taken by Tom.
      ALSO
      one can not just apparate on that huge distance UK-Australia. not sure event a portkey can done that job.
      and cmon, Tom or a Deatheater using a plane to travel ?

  • @mattwhelan13
    @mattwhelan13 2 місяці тому +9

    ok so;
    - Yes the 7 Potter's plan is stupid, but it's supposed to be a reflection of Voldemort's 6 planned horcruxes, 6 vessels keeping Harry alive out of love so I can see why it was included.
    - The missing 24 hours is explained by Dumbledore not wanting Harry delivered in the middle of the day especially as the bike can't turn invisible, he tells Hagrid to wait until evening and Hagrid doesn't mention this in conversation because it's clear he did as asked.
    - We know that Dumbledore vouches for Hagrid and, while it isn't enough to save him from explusion, it is enough to keep him out of Azkaban. He also doesn't have Hagrid given a job straight away, instead he remains at the castle and is trained to be gamekeeper without a wand. Presumably people assumed that without a wand he wouldn't be able to open the chamber again. Dumbledore has incredible sway by the time Hagrid came of age having just defeated Grindlewald and so people would be more likely to look the other way. We see him do a similar thing for Snape, a proven Death Eater, later on.
    - Dumbledore gives Harry all of the information he plans on giving him during the Sixth book after he has planned his death. He knows that Harry is capable of destroying the Horcruxes and if he had more information he wanted to give Harry (we know he doesn't know the location of the remaining Horcruxes or he'd have already gone to get them) he'd have told him during the lessons. The only thing he knows about that he doesn't tell Harry about that is really useful is the Hallows and we know the reason for this. Anything else Harry wants to know he can just relay through the existing portrait after the mission.
    - Hermionie modifies her parent's memory to be kind to them. Yes she could have persuaded them to move to Australia without doing so, but this would be incredibly emotionally difficult for her parents and cause them avoidable pain. It also protects them against the very real possiblity that Hermionie doesn't survive the 7th book. As for Australia, we know that Voldemort pretty much stuck to Britain the first time around and it's literally the furthest place to send them to. If she had left her parents at home with wiped memories the Death Eaters could just look at her Hogwarts records and find out where they live, now they have to find a needle in a haystack.

      Well explained. Also, the 7 Potters plan was made with the Trace in mind and knowing they gave a false date to the ministry (Death Eaters infiltrated)

    Regarding Hagrid as Gameskeeper, maybe headmaster Dippet did not actually consider him guilty but gave into pressure and allowing Hagrid this position to apologise for not having a backbone

    I always thought the main reason Hermione used obliviate is because her parents would never leave if they remembered her

    • @shalom5214
      @shalom5214 2 місяці тому +3

      Technically, in the books, she actually didn't use obliviate, she used a memory-modifying charm because you can't actually un-do the obliviate charm. But yeah, I definitely don't think they would've understood that she needed to go on that dangerous journey.

    There’s no way portrait Dumbledore could go along with the trio. Where would the conflict come from if Dumbledore was just there the whole time? He quite famously likes Harry to figure things out himself so that’s probably why he didn’t do that.

  • @s6r231
    @s6r231 10 місяців тому +3

    The thing is when writing a book sometimes you have to write scenes which either don’t make much sense or there were better ways to get through the problem. However, the character has to go through a specific problem in order to advance the plot and the scene is worked around that plot point. So for the 7 potters, Harry needs to come face to face with Voldemort and shoot the golden flames (which then sets Voldemort off on his search of the elder wand). Hedwig apparently needed to die then according to Jo. Mad Eye also needed to die so that the ministry end up with his eye in Umbridge’s door and finally it allows Snape to still be seen as valuable to Voldemort (his information about the date being correct) and that means Snape can be headmaster of Hogwarts and facilitate Harry finding the sword of Gryffindor.

    well no, hermione's thought process was that basically shed wipe their minds and send them away to yes be safe and as far as possible, but also the mind wipe because then they're not gonna be worrying or need to mourn if she dies.
    She even says if she survives thatd she'd find them and lift the spell. But it should be strong enough to hold and theyll be happy because they dont know they have a daughter.
    Also why she changes their name.

    Dumbledore has all the chocolate frog cards.... that's why the only thing he cared about was that they didn't take him off of them. Dumbledore has his portrait collected by nearly everyone. He has eyes on everyone. When Harry's is on the train and gets his first card, then that Dumbledore portrait leaves, to tell the real Dumbledore that Harry has arrived, with Ron.

    Another calendar related plothole: the Hogwarts Express always picks students up on September 1st, and then they start classes the following day. But in multiple (or possibly all) books it also says Monday is the first day of class. How can the day after September 1st always be a Monday?

    We only know that Hagrid is the Keeper of Keys by 1991 when he introduces himself as such to Harry. We don't know when Hagrid was given the position, but I'm willing to bet that it wasn't right after getting expelled from Hogwarts. The way I see it is Dumbledore convinced the Headmaster/Governors/Ministry/whoever to allow Hagrid to remain at Hogwarts and be trained as Groundskeeper. That is all he was at the time: an apprentice Groundskeeper. Hagrid likely wasn't given Keeper of Keys until Dumbledore was made Headmaster.

      It had to happen that way. Harry had to come face to face with Voldemort. It’s what makes Voldemort go looking for the elder wand. So no Harry can’t disappear into the underground or be polyjuiced into someone else.

  • @water_with_lemons

    Dumbledore wanted Harry to figure out the horcrux/hallow situation on his own, which he did. So I don’t get that one.
    Hermione probably knew her parents wouldn’t have been cool with her ditching school and being on the run for her life without their help. It wasn’t about protecting them from the death eaters, it was about her ability to go on the quest in the first place. Don’t get that point either.
    The only good point you make is the missing day, the others are extremely flimsy. Implying that Voldemort wouldn’t have safeguards to ensure Harry couldn’t sneak out, come on.
    I’m not a Harry Potter fanboy AT ALL but this video has HUGE “why didn’t the eagles just fly the ring to Mordor” energy.

    Although Hermione didn't wiped their memories, but rather modified them - I still don't like that plan. She made them to believe that they're muggles (Wilkinses) that want to go to Australia. But if I was a Death eater and wanted to find Grangers, I would use Imperius curse on any muggle that could point me to their house, then I would research where is the couple that lived there. I wouldn't care which name they used to get to Australia, especially because those "Wilkinses" probably didn't even tried to hide their departure and destination.

    I disagree with the opening statement (sorry !): while one might not *expect* a book for children to be free of plot holes & other such flaws, why should a writer for children have lower standards in writing for children than in writing for anyone else ?
    Surely an author should give of his or her best, regardless of whom the author is writing for ? Any notion that a writer can lower his or her standards, because the book is "only" intended for children, & that children can (in effect) be fobbed off with any old tosh, STM to be encouraging authors to serve up shoddy work. A writer for children should have, and should if possible satisfy, the very highest standards of literary craftsmanship, just as the same writer would have if writing for anyone else.
