Visit to the WASHINGTON MONUMENT

Trip to DC to visit the Washington Monument. Tribute to our 1st president was completed in 1884. Still stands as the tallest obelisk and tallest stone structure in the world.

Where's the special tree

I don't know about a special tree but in Walter Tevis's novel "mocking Bird" the monument had a door or passage to an underground mall of such which lead to a bunker.

In the universe, The monument was built to conceal "special tree" that can teleport people into another dimension. The tree can "sing" to lure people in.

Too bad they didn't leave the elevator with it's original cab, especially if it was a cage type one because then they could see the surrounding walls of the structure. Alternately, they could have made the cab glass for the same reason since traversing the stairs has been banned.
