@@christopherdudley1585 , the first part of each 'decade', is the Our Father; I.e., what Protestants call The Lord's Prayer. That is in every Bible. The 'Hail Mary ' starts with the Angelic Salution found in the Bible, and concludes with a request to pray for us; Protestants ask their friends to pray for them. Finally, we end up with the 'Glory be', which honors the Holy Trinity.

Random thought about CS Lewis: his best friend was Tolkien, who converted him to Christianity. It’s not too surprising why Lewis seems like a Catholic, because his version of Protestantism was influenced largely by Tolkien who was Catholic. It’s even more interesting to think about how much of “Mere Christianity” or “Screwtape Letters” derived from the conversations of CS. Lewis and Tolkien.

He was Anglican he was catholic small 'c' thats why its so similar. In fact most Anglo-catholic/high church stuff is more traditional than modern new order Roman Catholicism. Obviously, there are evangelic and reformed Anglicans that would classify as protestant but it is a wide spectrum. Not really a denomination like presbyterianism or methodist more a descriptor showing that the tradition is english in origin and influence.

Wow! That is some praying. 🙂
Great routine. I definitely to read more. I'm working on some St. Thomas Aquinas now. I try to do the Lauds and Compline of the liturgy of the hours everyday sometimes if I can Terce. I do the rosary around the 3 o'clock hour everyday and try to do the Devine Mercy chaplet as well. As well as our 3 basic prayers at night with 3 year old daughter. Thanks for sharing the video, great!

Apart from doing the rosary and 15 prayers ( said over one year ) of Saint Bridget of Sweden on a daily basis, I am incorporating the Jesus prayer said 33 times ( according to the years Jesus was hear in the flesh on earth )when I go for walks using a Chotki ( with 33 knots ), and I try to say Psalm 51 in the evening for forgiveness. I have written two of my own devotional prayers and I have designed and made my own beads for one of these prayers,

Matthew 6:7 KJV - But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

    • @odessaxmusicclips6028
      @odessaxmusicclips6028 3 роки тому +4

@@christopherdudley1585 Yes indeed...' VAIN' repetition. Protestants misinterpret a lot of the Bible,,, this is no exception.
Repetition done in the right way for example - Jesus repeats himself 3 times in the garden of Gethsemane MATHEW 26:42,
and we see the angels surrounding The Lord, never ceasing to say " Holy , Holy Holy, is the Lord God almighty .... " REVELATION 4:8.
Its not the repetition that's the problem, its when it becomes mindless repetition that's the problem.
The "Hail Mary Prayer" ( Taboo to protestants ) is biblical LUKE 1:28, LUKE 1:42, and is full of repetition ( 5 decades of the Hail Mary ) but is a deep meditation on the whole entire life of Christ done on different days of the week. But as Protestant's dont understand repetition let alone Mary( The mother of God ) then I might as well finish now.
I hope I have given you something to think about. The Catholic Church has over 2000 years of history behind it...and is the only true church started by Jesus Christ.
The Bible was compiled by Catholics - and Protestants have an incomplete Bible ( 66 books - the number 6 in the Bible is used as a number for incompletion and is satans number 666, the Catholic Bible is 73 - 7 is the number of completion, and 3 is the Holy Trinity ) not to mention Sola scripture ( which is not Biblical ) and your using a book compiled by Catholics and you reject Catholicism ???!!! ... Go figure...
I could go on and on. ....

Love the suggestions, thought I'd add one of my own. A while back I decided to try to incorporate the Breviary (aka the Divine Office aka the Liturgy of the Hours) as an element of my discernment process. I have come to fall in love with it, and it has become an integral part of my prayer life.
One of the reasons I love it, is that it keeps me constantly focused on God through "prayer without ceasing" while in a vehemently secular environment at a public university. The structure is very helpful in cultivating an interior sense of duty/obligation which encourages regularity and habitual prayer.
I also find great spiritual fruits from the variety of material which compose the Office. The fundamental building block is the Psalter, which is repeated throughout a four-week cycle. These timeless and ancient prayers never cease to be pertinent to my life and are a constant source of inspiration. The Lucan canticles at Lauds (Morning Prayer), Vespers (Evening Prayer), and Compline (Night Prayer) are an invitation to contemplate the mystery of the incarnation. The prayers of Compline have beautiful eschatological themes. The plainchant hymnody is an accessible yet beautiful example of how music lifts the mind, heart, and soul to contemplation of higher things. In Matins (the Office of Readings) there are even selections from the Church Fathers! I could go on forever about this, but the last thing I'll say is that for the first hour of the day, a prayer called the Invitiatory is said, which, as the name implies invites one into a mindset centered on prayer and contemplation; this prayer fittingly begins with the words "Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will proclaim your praise," which I think is such a beautiful way to begin one's day.
The Office is the official prayer of the Church, and its liturgical nature was designed to complement the Mass, next to which it has been considered the highest form of prayer.
I recently read that the Second Vatican Council stated that the Breviary be prayed not only by the priests and religious for whom it is an obligation, but also by the laity, even encouraging parishes to regularly pray vespers as a public community. I have found great fruit as a layperson from praying the Office, and I would emphatically recommend it to anyone and everyone who is seeking to revitalize their prayer life, because it has most certainly done that for me.

I pray an act of contrition & the simple guardian angel prayer prior to my morning rosary. I throw in the short version of the prayer to St. Michael. I’ve begun to incorporate the divine mercy chaplet prior to another rosary in the evening. “The Screwtape Letters” is a great book and cleverly profound. Lewis was strongly influenced in faith by his friend JRR Tolkien who was devoutly Catholic.
