For an old women...I really love listening to you! I also love how young women are bringing back veiling. It really is beautiful, feminine, and reverent. 💒
I loved reading this about being distracted in Adoration" If the heart wanders or is distracted, bring it back to the point quite gently and replace it tenderly in its Master's presence. And even if you did nothing during the whole of your hour but bring your heart back and place it again in Our Lord's presence, though it went away every time you brought it back, your hour would be very well employed." -St. Francis de Sales
kneeling while saying my prayers has definitely been a struggle since it’s so easy to feel uncomfortable. but i’ve noticed that once you’re really mediating and focusing, you hardly notice anything at all :)
I was not aware of the practice of not turning our backs to the Lord. Thank you for talking about this needed topic! This past Christmas, I offered up a holy hour for everyone from my Bible study as a Christmas present and it took me months to fulfill that promise, but I eventually did it!
I did not know about the kneeling instead of just genuflecting or the walking backwards not turning your back. Glad I know now, I had a holy hour this past semester and never knew this I noticed some people did it but thought it was just a thing they did. Thank you so much for making this!
I'm not sure about the walking backwards. If you watch traditional nuns who have perpetual adoration, they don't walk backwards when they walk out of the church. The priest, after placing the monstrance doesn't process backwards up the aisle hoping not to mow down an altar server. This makes me suspect it's a local custom or a misinterpretation of an exhortation not to stand with our backs to the Lord while chatting to a parishioner during adoration, rather than universal Catholic etiquette.
First time watcher. Very well done and you were real and specific. When i first saw a lady walk backwards during adoration, I didn't understand. Now I do it out of respect. Thank you for sharing all your information!
I'm blessed to have a 24 hour Adoration chapel on my way to work. And I work C shift, so there's only been about twice that people have been there around 9pm. I look forward to my alone time with our Lord 🙏
8:20 my parish priest saw people walking backwards during adoration and when he put away the Eucharist he made an aggressive announcement to not do that because it’s not in the “rule book” 😭 and I overheard him talk to someone “idk where they get that from because it’s not in the rubric and it’s dumb” like bruh what.
It’s not required to walk backwards, but it is a great devotion and thing to do. Our priest has told people to be careful, and if your clumsy (cough, my wife, cough) turn around and don’t fall.
Also, if you’re the first or last one in the adoration chapel and your tabernacle has either a door or a cloth hiding the host: be on both knees and bow when exposing him, and if you are the last one before leaving, re cover Him again in the same reverent manner.
I remember going to adoration in Auckland (NZ) and people would kneel on both knees all the way up to the pew (I mean, people didn't even stand to walk up to the pew, they'd literally kneel all the way up to the pew) - this surprised me, but I was greatly humbled by it.
Thanks for the video! I have never heard of walking backwards! We have one lady at Church who walks on her knees all the way down the isle! I have never heard of this one either! And she is quite elderly. What an impressive gesture
Lol 😂 I hear 👂 you. I hear bead rattlers all the time. Not praying just using their Rosary 📿 like it’s a fidget toy or something. I try to let the annoyance recall me to the present moment and keep me aware of the presence of Jesus and my presence with Him. Key word: TRY. Not always successful. I’m sure I am unaware of the things I do that annoy others as well.
@@marykali3603 Sadly, you left our Lord alone with no one to console Him by offering up your own discomfort and displeasure with the singing. Please, next time stay with Him and offer up your prayers in silence.
Thank you, that was a really useful video, reminding me I need to kneel with both knees. Not leaving Jesus alone and backing up facing Jesus, so you are not turning your back on Him.
Great topic. Catholic for a just over a year now and your right, I’ve not seen any information on adoration etiquette. Going to start implementing these forms of reverence today at first Friday adoration. Thank you for sharing this with with us. 😊
I have been searching everywhere for this information--thank you so much! I admire your courage in walking backwards, not turning your back on Jesus--I always feel funny when I turn away--so I need to follow what my heart has been telling me to do--I'm am afraid of the looks and I will pray for the courage to do what is right
This was very helpful. I'm a senior citizen, RC all my life, went to Catholic elementary school, and still didn't know about Adoration or the etiquette for it. I feel much more comfortable since I sort of stumbled upon an Adoration chapel a few month ago. One difference though-- the thing about walking backwards-- my first Adoration after watching your video, when leaving, I started to walk backwards as you said is proper etiquette but stopped, because, honestly, it felt clownish. I looked at a few other Adoration etiquette videos (by priests) and no one else mentions anything about walking backwards. That's just how I feel.
It was not a stumble Jesus is calling you to be more in his presence. I totally agree 100% with everything you have noted in this video. Going back to how we dress for church/adoration… I have been attending a lot of Spanish language masses here in the USA lately. (It’s summer, and this parish is much closer to my house than the one I am enrolled in - a 5 min drive vs a 30 min drive, I cantor and am in choir at the farther church.) Anyway, initially I didn’t enjoy the hispanic mass because it seemed more festive than reverent. After a few more visits it became very clear to me that the hispanic catholics have such an incredibly rich faith, they are praying the rosary and litany of the saints before each mass begins, and the majority absolutely dress for God. The percentage of parishioners who veil there is much higher as well. It is such a drastic difference. This parish does have a couple English masses too, but the difference between the two are like night and day. I’m considering making this my home parish, but not right away. I’m feeling it out a bit more and praying on it. I have learned to love the Spanish mass now too, plus it’s great learning the prayers in a third language. But yes, the Spanish adoration was the first place I saw people back away from Our Lord’s flesh.
Thank you so much for this, I’m rediscovering my fair after about a 20 year…let’s say…hiatus lol and it’s my first time going to adoration as an adult. I needed this and was so stressed out I couldn’t find one. So thank you
Great video! I joined the Church 50 years ago and this is the first time I've heard about walking backwards when the Host is exposed. It does seem like an appropriate and very reverent practice. But if I tried it, I would most likely wind up on the floor. I still do the double genuflection, and I rarely see anyone doing it these days. You are so right about wearing our Sunday best for Mass and adoration. I admit I get lazy sometimes and show up in jeans. I need to make more of an effort.
I think dress is personal preference and some people put way too much emphasis on it. I do not agree with her comments about “Sunday Best.” Jesus sees the heart, not the clothes. John the Baptist walked around eating locusts and they all likely wore single garments, sandals, and rarely washed. This is a modern, Westernized rule. If you feel called to veil or dress up, by all means, but our clothes should be the least of our worries 🙏🏼
I never heard that you can’t leave adoration unless someone else is in there. If this is true, no one would go. Some people are diabetic, they have to eat on time. Some people have bodies that hurt and cannot stay.
I have been a catholic I left the Catholic church but just return to the Catholic I did not know a thing your videos has been helping me understand it more. I also like your videos.
Thanks for sharing! Im not Catholic but i always wanted to go to the church even though im nervous because i would be going by myself. Hopefully i will get the nerve one day. I love wearing the Virgin Mary necklaces n feel protected when i do. I also feel if i get on my knees and pray and be humble its more effective. 🌸🌸🌸
As a new Catholic convert, it can be intimidating to go to the church the first time. I understand - I went by myself, too. First time, just go to a regular mass, get there a few minutes early, and sit in the back row. You will be OK.
Thanks for showing this, luckily theres a convent of Sisters who come to adoration when I go and ive followed their lead but I havent been able to find anything about adoration etiquette online.
Im planning on going to a adoration chapel near our school, at least once a day. I did my first visit yesterday and was able to do the rosary (wearing my earphones) with a app called "Hallow" wherein you may pick the basic rosary (16 mins+) or the rosary with reflections (26 minutes). Also, the kneeler in that chapel is quite hard and not comfy, so what I did is that, every "our father..", "glory be..", and the first hail mary of each decade of the rosary, I kneel and then sit again to continue the decade. Thank you so much for this video! Love from the Philippines
Congratulations young lady!!!Please continue with your podcasts on Adoration. We have lost so much respect reverence for our Lord. Is there a specific book that has the proper protocol for Adoration? May you be richly blessed for what you are doing. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
@@debrabusing1264 I believe it was St. John Vianney who asked one of his parishioners, what he did in the church. The old man said, "I look at Him (Jesus) and He looks at me." The only thing you have to do is be reverent. When you come into the presence of Our Lord genuflect, if you can, or bow before Him in the Tabernacle or the Monstrance on the altar. Sit or kneel and then pray in silence. No special prayers except what is in your heart. Tell Our Lord how much you love Him and what is in your mind. Sit quietly and listen to Him. If there is a prayer group going on, you can pray with them or choose to sit apart and quietly say your own prayers. If you are there for Benediction, there should be booklets or the missalette with the prayers for all to say. I hope this helps. Peace and blessings!
Thank you for the video. I've been struggling on focusing on Jesus recently. I guess I have a million things going through my mind that get me out of focus.
Thank you for this your purpose is so needed in our Nation and in this world for your generation is the the future of our Catholic faith. Gods blessings and I will also remember to pray for you and the mission Our Lord has favored you with.
Oct.26 2024 my first Adoration experience that I never never forget for the rest of my life TO LISTIEN JESUS IS MIRACLE 🙏💛😭 I WAS CRYING... I felt that Jesus loves me so much❤❤❤
I was good w/ everything except how to walk out. We didn't have Adoration at my small, rural parish growing up. At my suburban parish we have built a separate, freestanding Eucharistic Adoration chapel, which I frequent, but for some reason I only ever witness Hispanics backing out so I thought it was more of a cultural thing rather than general etiquette. Good info. Being a small chapel, though, we're able to repose the Blessed Sacrament if have to leave and no one else is there. This is very convenient if you're only able to stop for 10 or 15 minutes on your way to work, etc. Thank you for the videos, though. I'm sending them to a dear friend who has never even been to Adoration and has no idea what to do if he goes. God Bless!
What is the etiquette for a procession with a cross up to the altar? I’ve attended many Episcopal services and everyone bows as the cross goes by. I love that.
Great video thank you. Some of things you mention, I've done. One thing that is different is dress etiquette here in the south, well Texas to be specific. Sunday's best is your best pair of jeans, clean boots, button down shirt with or with out a sports jacket/coat, sometimes just a polo for men, dresses of any kind for women as long as its modest. Which is 100% different then when I was a child going to church in the NY area, where it was three piece suits for men only, and elaborate dresses for women. Me personally, I disliked that a lot when I went to church as a kid and even into my teens. I literally disliked wearing that and it made going to church feel like an uncomfortable chore. I know a lot of other people who felt this way as well. Anyhow, my point being, I think Sunday's best, really depends on the area of the US and yes I will be the one you mentioned about dress. BUT I do dress better then if I went to a dance or a party for church, because of respect for my Lord. Edit: Oh yeah, I can't kneel at all due to various knee injuries, so when it comes time to kneel, I will sit forward and place my good knee down and keep the bad one up, so I am still taking a knee and that's perfectly acceptable.
Cradle Catholic here. I believe an important part of adoration is no overt obvious displays of piety in front of others present. No laying on the ground in the form of a cross. No kneeling directly in front of the monstrance and holding your arms outstretched in the form of a cross. In my opinion it is a form of spiritual pride and attracts attention to one's self instead of on Jesus.
Hmm...I have heard this 'Not turning your back to Jesus', but have not observed anyone 'NOT' do this. I think for two reasons: it's both impractical and more of a safety issue. If I recall, even during Exposition, Benediction, and reposition, I haven't seen the priest go backwards. It's a great idea and makes a lot of sense for etiquette, I just haven't seen this in practice. I've been going to Eucharistic Adoration on a regular weekly basis for over a year. Great points! Thank you for sharing.
Set the example for others. I teach Catechism and one of the things I tell the children is to remember to wear a nice clean shirt and trousers or the girls a simple blouse and a skirt that covers the knees. I showed them a picture of a group of children in a very poor village in Africa and they only had one t-shirt for school and one for church and no shoes. Before the children went into the church they washed their feet. My family was poor, but my sister and I each had one nice church dress and church shoes. Nothing fancy, but only for Mass and very special occasions. I remember wearing a crocheted "doiley" as a head covering at Mass until I made my Confirmation and my mom gave me a veil. I'm 77 and continue to wear a veil and encourage other women to veil.
I have a question: What if the parish doesn’t have a sign up sheet for adoration and thus, am not aware of anyone coming in to take my place? This is going to be a problem because I’m usually alone when I come in and leave out :
My terminology is bad because I’m a recent convert. In our adoration chapel, we don’t have a traditional monstrance-ours is more of a tabernacle with a door that you can open and close. What is the etiquette on this if I come into the chapel alone and the door to this tabernacle is closed? Do I open it to expose Jesus or do I leave it closed? Sorry for the ignorance, I just want to be as respectful as possible when I visit Him.
I'm sorry I just saw your comment from a year ago. #1 always be quiet and reverent. Our Lord should NEVER be left alone and unguarded especially if just anyone can open the Tabernacle, which should NOT ever be left unlocked. Please let the priest know about this. There should be a schedule for at least 2 people to be assigned to be at the chapel at every hour and each one signs in on arrival. The main reason for keeping the Tabernacle locked and for having at least two people in the chapel is so mo one will commit a sacrilege against Our Lord by desecration and stealing the sacred Eucharist.
@@annarodriguez9868 thank you for clearing this up! I learned a lot during RCIA but the Church is so rich that it’s probably impossible to ever learn it ALL! I appreciate your kind reply
@@berthaadams6742 You're quite welcome and I'm glad to be of assistance. Our Church is such a wonderful treasure trove and has so much history behind it. I'm going recommend that you read Beautiful Eucharist by Matthew Kelly. It's a great little book on Adoration. I also recommend Rome Sweet Rome by Scott Haun. It's about how he and his wife converted from the Presbyterian church, but as you read it you will discover more about our Church.
This was a good video. A lot of priests don't want to talk about specific rubrics or etiquette because they don't want to offend people who do things differently, or who have done things one way their whole life, and for other reasons. So, thank you for taking on this issue. I think you're spot on about clothing and dress. It's all about reverence. Our utmost for his highest. I love the idea of walking backwards, I do this to some extent even at Mass. Taken to another level, do you turn your back on or your attention away from the Blessed Sacrament when you give the sign of peace? Hmm, something to think about. People will judge you and even hate you for doing things like this, but then I remember the Litany of Humility and I realize this is to be expected. A small penance actually. One last thing, Dennis Prager is not Catholic and maybe not such a good person to get advice from.
is this an Adoration Chapel at my church, it's the little chapel to the side of the main chapel in them main church building. I didn't know anything about this and I accidentally left Him alone today. Please let me know, maybe this is just a little chapel of some other significance?
+JMJ+ I recently found your channel, and I watched a couple of your videos. I must admit, I like what I've seen so far and we need more women like you who take their faith seriously, not only women of course, but also we men should strive for excellence, only then we can work together in a matter which is pleasing to God. Strangely, I found more pious catholic women in the U.S. than here in Europe.
Is there such a guide that says how to go to adoration?? So far this is the first time I heard that when you leave adoration you are not to turn your back to Jesus also that when you kneel that one should kneel all the way face down? We can a person get a paper guide to see if this is all really true?
I've seen families pull into the Church parking lot with the boat hooked to the truck headed to the lake after Mass and they go to Mass dressed like their at the beach. Lord help us
Amber, physically walking backwards all the way to the entrance, seems to me like a dangerous thing to do, especially in a large Church (small chapel maybe different) and the Church doesn't really require it from you. I feel like kneeling, and maybe one or two steps backward out of reverence should be enough, then you can turn around and walk to the exit. It's just how I feel about it. You have to be practical and safe, Jesus doesn't want you to endanger yourself or others unnecessarily.
I wish more people could see this video, yes I have seen bad dressed people who also bring water in flasks and slurp during the hour. Can't say anything else it is me being judgemental and a hypocrite. Please advise.

I have literally never heard of any of this before so this was really helpful (not catholic, but searching!)
I love this! Me and a friend were just talking about this.
Thank you for this your purpose is so needed in our Nation and in this world for your generation is the the future of our Catholic faith. Gods blessings and I will also remember to pray for you and the mission Our Lord has favored you with.
She’s so pretty I could watch her talk about our catholic faith for hours 😊
Oct.26 2024 my first Adoration experience that I never never forget for the rest of my life TO LISTIEN JESUS IS MIRACLE 🙏💛😭 I WAS CRYING... I felt that Jesus loves me so much❤❤❤
You are precious.
This is amazing. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this!! So much I didn’t know!! 🙏💕
Exactly Thank you
I was good w/ everything except how to walk out.
At the entrance procession at Mass we bow and make the sign of the cross as the crucifix goes by. 🙏
Thank you for this!
Woah I didn't know some of these things! Thank you for making this!
I Agee with you I have only went to church once in capris because I was traveling & that’s All I had
Lol! Next time you travel pack a wrap skirt for Mass!
Any etiquette tips for people with disabilities who can't necessarily move backwards when leaving or who are in a wheelchair?
Could you talk about laying postrate for prayer??
This is so great video. Thank you!
Good info
I'm old school & I have been appalled to see what people are wearing to church today!
Very nice
Cradle Catholic here. I believe an important part of adoration is no overt obvious displays of piety in front of others present. No laying on the ground in the form of a cross. No kneeling directly in front of the monstrance and holding your arms outstretched in the form of a cross. In my opinion it is a form of spiritual pride and attracts attention to one's self instead of on Jesus.
Thank you. I didn't know.
Do you mean to go on both knees before going to the pew, like beside the bench or right when you enter the church and make the sign of the cross?
Both, when we first see Jesus and then again when we are getting into iur pew :)
When you journal do you kneel or sit?
Hmm...I have heard this 'Not turning your back to Jesus', but have not observed anyone 'NOT' do this. I think for two reasons: it's both impractical and more of a safety issue. If I recall,
even during Exposition, Benediction, and reposition, I haven't seen the priest go backwards. It's a great idea and makes a lot of sense for etiquette, I just haven't seen this in practice. I've been going to Eucharistic Adoration on a regular weekly basis for over a year. Great points! Thank you for sharing.
I think I was born too late. I miss the days when people dressed up for church, work and travel. 😊
@@annarodriguez9868 I love the idea of wearing a doily as a head covering because it was hand crocheted with love.
Hust as an aside. Have you ever watched the 1959 film Ben Hur?
Does dress up mean dresses? Or nicely dressed?
I have a question: What if the parish doesn’t have a sign up sheet for adoration and thus, am not aware of anyone coming in to take my place? This is going to be a problem because I’m usually alone when I come in and leave out :
Start a signup sheet and take the problem to your parish
@@TheReligiousHippie how do you deal with hormones?
Thanks for sharing 👍
During adoration put the words of St. Thomas in your hearts "My Lord and my God" and hide yourselves in Jesus' wounds
I hate the thought of not being able to kneel. That one thing that keeps me Roman Rite and not Orthodox. And Adoration.
Do the same etiquette apply when the Blessed Sacrament is not exposed (that is, when it’s hidden inside the tabernacle)?
You can, i usually try to
Yes, our Lord should always be given the same respect and reverence in any case.
is this an Adoration Chapel at my church, it's the little chapel to the side of the main chapel in them main church building. I didn't know anything about this and I accidentally left Him alone today. Please let me know, maybe this is just a little chapel of some other significance?

I recently found your channel, and I watched a couple of your videos. I must admit, I like what I've seen so far and we need more women like you who take their faith seriously, not only women of course, but also we men should strive for excellence, only then we can work together in a matter which is pleasing to God. Strangely, I found more pious catholic women in the U.S. than here in Europe.
Hi nice post
Is there such a guide that says how to go to adoration?? So far this is the first time I heard that when you leave adoration you are not to turn your back to Jesus also that when you kneel that one should kneel all the way face down? We can a person get a paper guide to see if this is all really true?
I've seen families pull into the Church parking lot with the boat hooked to the truck headed to the lake after Mass and they go to Mass dressed like their at the beach. Lord help us
Do you still do double genuflection when the Blessed Sacrament is exposed?
Yes
Amber, physically walking backwards all the way to the entrance, seems to me like a dangerous thing to do, especially in a large Church (small chapel maybe different) and the Church doesn't really require it from you. I feel like kneeling, and maybe one or two steps backward out of reverence should be enough, then you can turn around and walk to the exit. It's just how I feel about it. You have to be practical and safe, Jesus doesn't want you to endanger yourself or others unnecessarily.
Love this channel not Catholic but I love that amber love God it is good I'm glad people my age love god
🙏❤💕💯
Can you make a video about a Catholic review of Heartstopper please
I wish more people could see this video, yes I have seen bad dressed people who also bring water in flasks and slurp during the hour. Can't say anything else it is me being judgemental and a hypocrite. Please advise.
Kneel down reverently before Eucharist in Adoration but stand and receive Communion in hand. It don’t make sense for me. Most of Catholic do that.
I thought we weren't supposed to pray the Rosary during Adoration.
Idk where that idea came from
@@TheReligiousHippie I just read on another website. It was a random thing. One person's parish priest told her one should never pray the Rosary while in Adoration. 🤷♀ That seemed strange to me as well.
