What a good idea. Using every little piece of leftover scrap fabric for something is so much better then it ending up in landfills. Materials take a very long time to break down and believe it or not create a great deal of methane in the process. Besides I think the using of salvages is inspired and very interesting to look at.
Ohh how I regret all the salvages I’ve thrown away in the 20+ years I have quilted! But not anymore, I’m saving those and so excited for future projects!! Thank you!!
Great video! I like that you showed how to make the words go the right way on each side of the bag. I also found it useful to see how to add two short pieces together.
Dear Terry, what a wonderful video. Though I know how to sew with selvages in theory, I got some interesting and helpful tips here. Thanks a lot for that! 😉 I also noticed in the last minutes of the video that you are sewing on a Singer Featherweight. Such a charming little machine. Would love to own one some day as well 😍 Regards from Germany Stephanie
Wow what great tips and advice and Amazing projects from what I have always tossed away. I’m going to start saving my selvages to make a bag. Thank You
I am intrigued by using salvage. I’ve watched all three episodes so far and I like the idea and look of it. What a fun way to utilize fabric scrap especially considering how expensive it all is. So now I can’t help but wonder if I can purchase remanent salvage anywhere.?
I loved this so much. I am a fairly new quilter but I want to try doing some of this with selvedges. It looks so fun and there are so many things to do with them. Thanks so much for sharing of your time and talents……….
This is a really cool idea. Im always looking at salvages when I cut them off and I hate throwing them away, but I always think...Teresa what are you going to do with them...lol Well now I know.😉Im going to start collecting now. Boy I have throw away some really awesome one over time. 😥
I love selvedges too. I make my fabric by sewing the selvedges onto a light interfacing - the one I use has grid marks on it so I can keep it straight. You do have to line them up so there are no gaps, which is a disadvantage compared to this method. I like making it so that you get rows of the ‘fluffy’ edges of the fabric - it adds texture. I’ve made a book cover with mine - I love it, and it is great to see this tutorial too. X
This is really interesting, so much selvage fabric is wasted and some of them are really pretty now. The quilt behind you is gorgeous. I’d love to know what the pattern is called? Did you design it?
That is a question If I am using yardage from and I know I will be cutting 1/2 yard and putting the rest in my stash I will cut 1 1/2” from the printed side before I cut my strips I will be using . I fold it out of the way and fold it into fabric until I use all the yardage. I like long pieces so try and figure out a way to achieve that.
Terry super video💃🏻🧵can’t wait to make one. Thanks for the great inspiration! Starting with a small project then I’m going reallllll big! Mariaknits27 🧵🪡🧶☕️
Terry, this technique is brilliant; I am also a selvedge collector for weaving rag rugs. Thank you for sharing your skills.
You are welcome Sara
I love that this is a way to not waste

Hi from Texas. Thank you for sharing. Interesting indeed.
Большое спасибо!
What fun. Love your idea with joining the 2 different strips together.
Thank you so much for sharing your work with us!
I am so happy I found your channel. I finally have found my kind of quilt/fiber art.
I would love to see what you do with your elvages
Great video! I like that you showed how to make the words go the right way on each side of the bag. I also found it useful to see how to add two short pieces together.
Very cool. I've been wanting to do something similar with zipper cut offs as well. Whenever I shorten a zipper, I'll save the scraps.
I do also
Thank you for the inspiration. Still learning not perfect but I hope my granddaughter loves it . What a blessing you are

There are some people that sell selvages Yvonne I would ask my friends and see if any will share them.

Thank for the tip on joining the salvages!

This is designed by Briar Hill Design called The potters wheel
That pattern is called The Potters Wheel designed by Briar Hill Design
You’re Genius❣🥰🌺🙋🏻♀🌴
Where’d you get sewing machine? Beautiful
I bought it on line auction
Hello Terry, could i use a muslin cloth for the background? Is that heavy enough?
You can use muslin but it is not heavy I would put a piece of batting on the muslin then it would be a good weight for bags
I love your old featherweight, do you use it on a regular basis ?
I like it on my videos as it is less noise than my other machine
Since watching your technique I have tried to generously cut some selvages for you - where should i send them to you please?
Are you sure you do not want to save them and make yourself something
At what point do you cut off your salvage edges?

@@terryrowland398 perfect!!
Do you use only quilt fabric? I have a lot of heavier designer fabric. Would that work??
Yes you could use them if you like the look of them
