    Very fantastic n to-the-point video. The beauty of variety in savages got enhanced due to that piece of batique used. It also helped in creating so many designs. Cannot wait to try this one.
    Thank u taking efforts to create this video n for sharing with us.

    So very awesome. I don't have alot of selvage but I working on it. Love this b/c it can be more than a quilt. A table topper, hot plate w/batting added & wall art, etc. So fun...👍👍👍

    The “dots” are called registration marks. They allow the printers to line up the various screens so the colors that make up the design all align correctly.
    I’ve made this quilt. It’s helpful to make yourself a template to draw the kite shape on your foundation. I would think the adhesive makes your finished units stiff. I used the background fabric (like your red fabric) for my foundation.

    I cut my selvages 1-1/2 inches wide because I want to see a good bit of the fabric they were attached to. Love the spiderweb arrangement, made one using every acid/nile/vile/apple green in my stash, and it remains one of my favorite quilts even though it's twenty years old.

    Awesome! I absolutely love this!! I have been sewing for years and never even thought to do this. Just think how may selvage pieces I would have!
    I would make an individual pattern/template for the "star" pieces.

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  2 роки тому

      I think a template would be helpful for sure. You’re reminding me I need to get back to this project. At the time I couldn’t do any more because I ran out of selvages but now I have lots.

    I believe you could use the Missouri Star Quilt Company periwinkle template for 10” squares to cut your center piece.

    This is just brilliant. It doesn’t have to be SELvedges, it could be strips of scraps. I love the milleflores-type pattern the round version forms. Thank you for this!!! Ps those dots on the selvedges correspond to the colors used in the fabric pattern (and I think the quantity of the color as well, most to least, but not sure )

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  3 роки тому

      Rosemary- that is so true! You could make this block with regular fabric strips for sure! Thanks for watching.

      Yes about the dots color and amount. That's what I heard years ago. I'm a big fan of spider blocks and words and colors. I never saw quotes or designs on selvedge...that is cool. Your design is beautiful.

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  2 роки тому

      I am going to be making a quilt. I don’t long arm my quilts, I do “stitch in the ditch” on my regular machine. I’ll do the same here and probably stitch around each triangle piece. If you prefer the long arm, you could probably do it in the same way as a regular pieced quilt. Thanks for watching!

  • @boondockcrafters2636

    I would really love to see how you would do this with thin strips of fabric! I don’t think you would want that glue inside a quilt? And how big would your squares have to be to allow for seam allowances? I will keep watching to see if you come up with a plan! Thanks for all your videos, they are very inspiring

    • @mostlyquilts1386
      @mostlyquilts1386  3 роки тому +5

      Hi Lisa- the fusible interfacing is made for fabric so it will be fine inside a quilt. Just made sure to use very thin interfacing. To use regular fabric instead of selvage, cut your fabric into strips and sew together with 1/4th inch, then sew onto the middle piece and trim to be the correct size. Happy quilting and thanks for watching!

    Pronounced 'sel-vij (as in 'sell' or 'cell'). You are salvaging the selvedges. 😂 Hope this helps. ❤ Also, if interested, spelled selvage in US English or selvedge in British English. Fun facts.

    There is a difference between salvage and selvage: SAL-VAGE is the rescue of a ship, its crew or its cargo from a hazardous situation. It is pronounced with an “a” in the first syllable.
    SELVAGE is the edge of a woven fabric, where the weft (side-to-side) threads run around the warp (top to bottom) threads, creating a finished edge. British English spelling is SELVEDGE. In sewing or weaving, it is never pronounced with an “a” sound, only with an “e” sound.
    On Pinterest there is a stunning dress made solely from selvedges ❤…I have made only coasters and other small things.
