A piece of data you might consider including in your next review would be the 'native resolution' vs the projected or upscaled resolution. The native resolution is the reason why you can see large pixels when walking up to the wall. For instance, I highly doubt that this has a native 1080 HD resolution (1920x1080 pixels). It looks more like 852x480, which is often standard for these cheaper projectors. However in the main description they will often feature that it can 'scale' up to HD or even 4k, but will hide the true native resolution somewhere in the detailed specs. Thanks for the review!

The 1080p projector I currently use in my living room was $9900, 11 years ago. I got it for $125, plus $90 for a new bulb. It's bright enough to watch movies outside, during the day, and it's got analog keystone adjustment and tilt shift
I bought the TMY mini 1080 projector for under $100, and it blows this one you bought out of the water. Picture is very clear for roughly $100. I was shocked. Trust me a tv will always be better not only on resolution but brightness color vibrancy and contrast unless you spend thousand on your projector. I have a high end theater and spent just over 2k on my projector and it’s still not even full native 4k while my tcl 75” tv is native 4k with impressive contrast brightness and full hdr support. The reason you get a projector is mainly the ability to have a screen size over 100” without it costing 10k+ 😊
Interesting and for the money it is fine. I purchased a slightly more expensive Kodak Slim that runs on an internal battery I added blue tooth with a dongle so I can project it on my hot tub cover when I am in the spa and it looks and sounds great when connected to my external speaker. I spent about 150 bucks for it and it looks great such that my son keeps stealing it so he can play games on this bedroom wall. I almost went with this cheaper version but opted for a more expensive and insanely small version that looks much better and brighter. Great video.
I've had a $700 projector for about 5 years now (popular brand, but I don't want to name them right now). I used it as a main TV, so it was used many hours a day. The first one had the light go out after 11 months. Luckily within the 1 year warranty. The 2nd one went out 1.5 years later. It was no longer under any warranty. But, after a lot of emails and discussions, they agreed to send me one more unit. Both times I got new units, they were refurbished, not new. Now I have had my 3rd unit for a year or so. I hear there are new laser projectors, maybe their light system lasts longer? But, my unit is not customer fixable. Cannot change out or order the light unit ourselves. I have a 16 year old Samsung 40" LED TV that I got back in 2008. It is still the best TV in my home. Best color and contrast. It has been on 24/7 for many years. Projectors are great. But when this 3rd one I have finally goes out, I'm not sure I'll pay to get another. A large TV will last longer, be brighter, and won't cost any more either.
Now I do also have a little pocket projector, and a compact roll out 40" screen. Great for outdoors and camping! Has it's own battery in unit, but can also plug it into any usb battery backup for extended time. Looks amazing at night, especially out back the house, or while camping, whatever. Not at all good in bright conditions.
Hmm, would've liked to see you mess with the settings on the projector to see if you could get closer to the LG TV in terms of colour saturation and the like. It did look washed out but I don't know if you tried to adjust things.
I bought a nexigo PJ40 off Amazon on sale for $300 I think? Lol we were so impressed with it I mounted it in the master bedroom. During the summer I'll take it down for a neighborhood movie night on a 20ft screen and it's awesome!!
I have a very similar one apparently. Bought from Amazon, same remote, same software. I have a specific size screen that needs to be correctly filled and had to use the zoom feature which kills resolution. I paid about the same but have had way better projectors in the past. I will be upgrading after my remodel.
for under a 100 bucks thats not bad, personally for the side by side i thought the projector looked better then the tv, the colors seemed more natural i dont the like neon look and the way i have my tv looked like the projector
Based on what I saw of this clip, this projector appears to be pretty much exactly like my Dr. J Professional model: HI-04. They share the same menu appearance, remote and hook ups. They come with identical cables. Different look and color. So far, not bad for the price. It's not something you want to leave on all night unless using it. The lamps dont have as much life span as a TV. Picture is a bit dull but crisp lines compared to the older technology. Native 720p but can accept 1080. Though its still good quality at 100 inches, its better when I drop the size some. Its better on a bright solid white target as opposed to a screen that lets light travel through it, making the picture darker
I bought almost the same damn projector a few months ago 😂 it just has a different name. Mine is Comaogo. Mine was also only 45 bucks. The screen issue with pixelation is the same. It gets better when the projector is closer to the wall, but I'm a big screen guy so I kind of put up with it. That filter thing is in fact a dust filter. The remote was by far the worst of it. It couldn't be read beyond 3 feet and there were certain zones that it would read. It's so frustrating that I actually got pissed off 😂. Regarding the keystone correction, I found that keeping the projector level and you won't have any blurring issues. Also, my instructions say up to 300 inches and so did Amazon, but when I tested it myself, the manual focus only allows for up to 100. For a cheap projector, I can't really complain. But if you're looking for really good quality, you'll have to spend a lot more money.
I have been testing a few cheap projectors. They are not bad for the price but will never beat an actual tv, not these budget ones anyway. They are fun for parties and movie nights though.
Yaber, Vankyo are the best ones for a screen 70 to 90 inches if you go higher the picture will fade, if you have light coming in it fades. They are good for smaller rooms. The Pro projectors can go over 150 with lights on. Much brighter , sharper ,better color picture.
thanks james, this stuff i like, please more more electronics if you can afford them ;). I have been watching you since 2017 when I was still Morocco, you deserve more subscribers.
You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to optics (the keystone/focus issue). That said, it does look like a good option for a "casual" scenario like a party where you'd not mind too much if someone knocked beer over it or something!
A lot of people complain that projectors have washed out color. That is what you get projecting it against a white background. Projecting it on a black screen fixes that issue, but with cheap projectors like these, they usually don't have a good lumen rating so on a black screen you gain your color correction, but lose brightness.
I have a giant short throw gaming projector that is great but I'm pretty sure it uses a lot more power than a normal flatscreen TV. And on top of it, it throws off a ton of heat so your room will get hot, higher AC bill
I have one that costed about $60. It looks different but has the same GUI. Samsung Dex and Smart View allows wireless connecting by adding the projectors hot spot to my phone wifi, not to the router
James, these projectors almost always have a polarizers issue where the polarizers get over heated and then you end up with dark spots on the screen. Almost all these chinese projectors do that. So I expect a follow up on this reviewed after months of use if you would.
I would love to see you try one of the BenQ projectors I've heard they are game changing they do have a few models. Pricey but still under 1000$ most of the time as far as I can tell. A very good television is still 400-1000$ so would be a fun comparison.
The director has its drawbacks but it also has its advantages. For instance it's cheaper than a TV the picture may not be as good but it's portable a TV is not it does not take up room on your wall either the only room it takes up is the room for a screen which could also be something that could be Hideaway. And that's a cheaper projector too like you said they have ones that are 1080p and up and my brother loves projectors he has an entire movie theater set up in his house with a projector and it's pretty awesome actually.
Screen mirroring - all you need is a cable with a USB C male at one end and an HDMI male at the other. Plug the C in your phone and the HDMI in your TV/projector.
I'm really happy that you did a tutorial video on projectors under $100 on Amazon so I didn't have to do on myself but I will tell you that when a projector's keystone doesn't work you also have to have the right angle because it's a budget one it doesn't have a built-in camera adjuster for its lenses which would automatically do it so you can put it at any level of height. Anyways the most important thing here is that screen mirroring is only for Android. It is a trademarked name. Airplay is for Apple because they had to make their own so when you see any of these projectors they are Android or linux-based so none of those screen mirroring things will work for your Apple iPhone you have to download an external app or just plug in a fire Stick and not have to deal with any of that to begin with but the default settings will always be Android and you will never be able to screen mirror off an iPhone because the truth is that entire company makes garbage phones but Americans are deceived because you're only marketed what they allow you to be marketed so you don't even know the vast technology of what a real good Android phone is because you guys have a tendency to sell really shitty Androids and then have a bad rep for it even though Samsung is changing the game, we have many companies in China and Japan that make phenomenal phones outside of these American garbage Androids which you guys have made Americans feel bad for using when really they are the dominant operating system. You can use screen mirroring on an Android and AirPlay on an Android but you can't do the same for Apple or can you download any content or have any modded apps for free because who wants to pay all this garbage money for apps in the first place. I'm getting off topic but thank you for doing the review I really appreciate it
Reminds me a joke Michael Scott cracked in The Office when a guy gets crabs and calls the girl he spent a night with to complain. 'What did you expect for five bucks? A lobster?'
We have one and use it for movies in the summer outside by the pool. We have a large blow up screen (100inches) from Sam’s club - paid $69 for that… $65 for projector. Worth is for outside movies…
Ninja just put out a slow cooker/ a bunch of other functions thing called the "possible cooker" I saw some reviews on it but no one does it like you! Would you put it to the test and see if it's worth the $120 price tag?
VGA input... wow, that takes me back. So did the yellow, red and white cables... ah the memories of a simpler time. How many pins did that VGA have, if I remember correctly, it was 15. I have to stop posting, I'm having too many flashbacks from my childhood. 😄
Running a 250 Euro Beamer for a TV since 3-4 Years now and only now i am thinking about upgrading since i moved into a bright place with a big south facing window front
nice you rocked the long hair just as much as you rock the bald look. heck ya also you gave James Hatfield vibes lol loved it. also i liked the projector i don't use phone casting so that don't bother me.
Thing is with these inexpensive projectors is that they're pixelated because the actual resolution of them is like 720p or so - which when projected against a non-perfect wall or something is fine for a party or casual event. And - it's quite impressive compared to the projector I bought many years ago for $1500 that could only do 480p/component video - and used expensive bulbs as well. Technology has come a long way. (and yes - it's much easier to carry on a plane than a 65" flat screen TV.. heh)
I wonder if the projector is android-based? I ask, because you're trying to mirror using an iPhone, and from my understanding, you need a special app to mirror iOS to an android device. Even if the projector is something completely different than android, I suspect it's a similar software compatibility issue.
That is because you are mirroring your phone/laptop. When you use a 'dongel', the picture is alot better! Try a DVD, then the picture will be better.... But the best is a more expensive beamer
Technically there is no replacement for this type because it wasn't designed that way. It's a throw away product using phone parts and a bright led with a cheap lens.
Should've Watched a few videos the haprun is great for under 100 native 1080p and brighter than most others also the vizony with coupon also under 100 at time I paid 80 for mine and is on the brighter side. Most people use a firestick and it's screen mirroring is much better. And for 200 dollar range you can actually get a projector where you can have ambient light and still get a quality picture.
I've seen people use this for neighborhood movie night with the projector scrren in front of their garage door. I definitely agree that a large screen TV would be better.
You can’t compare a TV to a projector for image quality because a tv will always beat it no matter what projector you use. Saying that, LCD technology has vastly improved over the years now and you can buy a pretty good projector on a small budget. Things to look out for are ANSI lumens not lumens., auto focus and auto keystone as well as throw ratio
I think at that price point, you can't expect great resolution, but you SHOULD expect all advertised features to work, and keystone and focus should work better.
the epson ls800 replcaed my tv. its as bright and 120 inches. also its an ultra short throw so you place it a few inches from the wall. pricey tho at $3k+
The best selling projector on Amazon is the Happen native 1080p which probably has a better picture. I have the Xidu native 1080 p, currently $128.05 on Amazon. One of the brightest projectors in this class.
Those work great for about 5 or 6 months until the bulb burns the center of the LCD. Then you start getting a dark spot which QUICKLY gets worse. If you NEED a projector, spend the money on a laser one!!
If you want incredible resolution, contrast and color reproduction with a REALLY big screen (not some 85" baby TV screen) nothing beats a high-end, quality projector. You can even get a high-end ultra short throw projector. Prices are usually $2k and up. Regardless, if you spend 75 bones on a cheap projector, you kinda get what you pay for 🤣
I've been doing this for the past three years. Some things to know. The room must stay really dark. You must realize these put off a smell like a burning electronic that is quite noticeable to the point some have come into my apartment and said, "What's that smell?", and I've been through three of them. I get the ones that cost around $200. A laser one wouldn't have such a smell and would last longer, but affording one is still beyond my budget. They also take up a lot of wall. In saying all of this, I'll continue doing this as I love watching sports, videos, especially live streams, and video games are great on a big screen. The movies are wonderful, but my dates get overwhelmed by the smell. The $100 ones are terrible in my opinion. The other thing, is you never know when they'll go out, and they usually do, so have a good TV for the bedroom incase it happens around a sporting event. You must position them where your not looking up too much because you can get neck strain.
Cheap projectors are junk, trust me. Unless you have a niche/novelty application for it, anything under $1000 is worse than a cheaper TV. The projectors Amazon page says it supports 4k multiple times, but it actually is only 1080p (if thats even accurate, most sub $100 are 720p), it supports 4k INPUT but displays at 1080p, most cheap projectors are similarly scammy. A few issues that people who have never owned a projector will run into: they have loud FANS, so that can ruin your experience. They are extremely light sensitive so they get washed out in rooms with light. They are awkward to setup in a room and will require planning around, unlike a TV which just mounts to any wall and is perfect. Trust me, I've had multiple highly reviewed $500-$700 projectors and am now back to TV's.
And honestly even then, over 1k is meh. You really need to drop some serious cash to get a good projector. I'm talking close to 10k to get something that's comparable to a standard 2k LED or MiniLED. Otherwise you'll get muddy, dull picture quality that'll never look as good as an actual TV and certainly never as good as an oled.
Yeah. My dad is the only person I've met with an actual good one, and he's got a custom built (by him) home cinema that he spent a decade working on. To the point that when they moved, they made sure to get a house with a seperate dining room so he could move his home theater. The projection screen is actually on hinges and he's got his thousands of DVDs stored behind it. But he's also worked in the cinema industry for almost 40 years, so he knew what he was doing and made sure to get it right because he's very passionate about movies.
I bought a cheap projector off Amazon that promised native 1080p and other decent stats. They sent me a native 720p projector that was dim. Gave them a bad review and was going to return it. They offered to replace it to change my review. They sent me another one that was native 1080p, but was still dim and some features didn't work. Repeated my prior steps. They sent me yet another one that is native 1080p and fully functioning. Been using it for over a year
You can get 4k tvs for like 200 dollars these days, if youre saving up for a projector, save a little later longer and get a 4k, your experience will be so much nicer.
Screen Mirroring never seems to work with Apple Devices, even though their apps are all paid to perform. Whereas I've never had any problems with Screen Mirroring my Samsung phone with any TV or projector.
Just to have a couple movies going on in the backyard with decent sound under $100 is very decent, things are getting expensive to do with the kids and this might be nice for movie night.

Even there, it doesn't seem to specify AirPlay in particular, which is what Apple uses. I imagine it might use Miracast instead, which works with Android and more recent versions of Windows. Edit: Clarified that Miracast is a recent windows addition Edit 2: Fixed spacing

Tough to compete with LG TV's picture!
i love you're reviews on different things and i find them interesting and enjoyable to watch and you sir get a 10 out of 10 star rating from me
I bought a nexigo PJ40 off Amazon on sale for $300 I think?
Whoa, this is one I'm super interested in. We had been looking at projectors to use outside at night for a drive in like feel 😁👍
We have a different projector and did that with our grandson early in the pandemic. He thought it was very cool.
Thanks James, awesome review as always, ❤love the 80s hair😂 🤟
You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to optics (the keystone/focus issue). That said, it does look like a good option for a "casual" scenario like a party where you'd not mind too much if someone knocked beer over it or something!
A lot of people complain that projectors have washed out color. That is what you get projecting it against a white background. Projecting it on a black screen fixes that issue, but with cheap projectors like these, they usually don't have a good lumen rating so on a black screen you gain your color correction, but lose brightness.
I always wondered how they worked and if they were any good, now thanks to you, I have my answer.
I'm curious if the astronomy program Stellarium would look good on a ceiling projection.
Woooo first time I catch a fresh upload!!!
What do you expect for $75?
Haha wow, the old 80s video you look a lot like Brandon! Let him know, no DNA test needed. James is the father! 😜
For Halloween or Xmas video displays it would work well I think, projected onto the garage door or wall.
I'm getting off topic but thank you for doing the review I really appreciate it
How can something be #1 seller and have mostly negative comments about the product? The cable issue would be a major turn off for me buying it.
Reminds me a joke Michael Scott cracked in The Office when a guy gets crabs and calls the girl he spent a night with to complain. 'What did you expect for five bucks? A lobster?'
We bought our kids a cheap projector. They use it every weekend for my grandkids and the neighborhood kids. They love it. They use a 300 inch screen.
thank you james for a deep review very few reviewers would put both togather that was awsome
I'm glad you enjoyed it!
We have one and use it for movies in the summer outside by the pool. We have a large blow up screen (100inches) from Sam’s club - paid $69 for that… $65 for projector. Worth is for outside movies…
Do you use Review Meta to see how reliable the reviews you're relying on are?
(and yes - it's much easier to carry on a plane than a 65" flat screen TV.. heh)
Both devices have to be hooked up to the same wi fi, don’t know if that will help. Xfinity has 2.4 and 5.0.
But the best is a more expensive beamer
was it able to use things like netflix and UA-cam on its own or only with connection to your computer
I kind of prefer the slightly muted colors of the projector than the bright popping colors of the tv, which could be adjusted but just saying
Being a projector how available are the bulbs for it? I’ve seen some that have proprietary lights that are difficult to source.
Technically there is no replacement for this type because it wasn't designed that way.
It's a throw away product using phone parts and a bright led with a cheap lens.
I've never seen that toilet paper roll shooter video before, and I can't seem to find it. Does anybody have a link?
I was just about to say the same thing, I want to see that one
As Homer Simpson once said "Long Luxurious Hippy Hair."
Awesome! I've been looking at these possibly!!
Of course, "Temu Slicer Video" was the critics' choice, but "James with hair" has had a much greater cultural impact.
I Love Freakin Reviews Videos 🧡
🎶 Mullet man mullet man does what ever a mullet man can 🎶 😂
the epson ls800 replcaed my tv. its as bright and 120 inches. also its an ultra short throw so you place it a few inches from the wall. pricey tho at $3k+
I'm more interested in that toilet paper gun!
When is THAT from?????
Looks like it is member only content.
The best selling projector on Amazon is the Happen native 1080p which probably has a better picture. I have the Xidu native 1080 p, currently $128.05 on Amazon. One of the brightest projectors in this class.
Was it noisy? How many watts did it consume on average?
Those work great for about 5 or 6 months until the bulb burns the center of the LCD. Then you start getting a dark spot which QUICKLY gets worse. If you NEED a projector, spend the money on a laser one!!
That you with all that glam hair? Epic!
If you want incredible resolution, contrast and color reproduction with a REALLY big screen (not some 85" baby TV screen) nothing beats a high-end, quality projector. You can even get a high-end ultra short throw projector. Prices are usually $2k and up. Regardless, if you spend 75 bones on a cheap projector, you kinda get what you pay for 🤣
7:12 - I didn't know you were Mac from Always Sunny!
I always wondered what the TF in TF Card stands for.
Been using it for over a year
I have a benq that was about $800 on Amazon. It projects beautifully and crisp at 120".
@@TheLateBiteShow nice , the key is the get a well known brand, not a chinese obscure crap..BenQ is a very large company doing quality stuff.
if it can store games may be good to have as back up maybe for cottage travel use if just movie space then may not be enough
I broke my tv so I might as well buy this one. This was an excellent review thank you !
You'd be better off buying a decent TV from Walmart or Amazon for under $400.
Which lg tv is that you said got it for like 300 I could use that tv
You can get 4k tvs for like 200 dollars these days, if youre saving up for a projector, save a little later longer and get a 4k, your experience will be so much nicer.
Screen Mirroring never seems to work with Apple Devices, even though their apps are all paid to perform. Whereas I've never had any problems with Screen Mirroring my Samsung phone with any TV or projector.
Most cheap projectors are only 480p no matter what they claim to be, but 480 was once called DVD, so any cheap projector is fine for basic viewing
There is a known issue with newer versions of Android and ios when mirroring g, it has to do with security permissions
Nah, Android uses miracast and iPhone, iPad, and Macs uses AirPlay. Typical Apple to use force users to use their own proprietary software
@@ImLVLegitcusImthasht I might have misspoke, it's not Android, but some newer samsung devices have issues with screen casting for some reason.
Just to have a couple movies going on in the backyard with decent sound under $100 is very decent, things are getting expensive to do with the kids and this might be nice for movie night.
Your keystone is out because you’re pointing the image up. Point it straight and that will fix it. Keystone adjustment is only minimal.
The best part of this video is my g/f's reaction when she saw you with hair. 😂
Thanks for the review, this was not bad and might come in handy to use with toddlers that don't care about the fine details.
Pretty on point for $75, not as nice as my Samsung freestyle, but you get what you pay for and it's more than decent for the price.
I was not notified that you uploaded a video.
Always check native resolution in listing you want at least 720p.
Most Listings may say 4k but not.
Hello Mr. Reviews . I don’t know what to call you. I just want to let you know I was watching you every videos . I’m now sick and had to spend some time in the hospital. It wasn’t Covid. It’s something else. I have to get therapy . The Chemo therapy is not bad. It makes me feel like I have to be sick. And the radiation therapy made me feel like I fell asleep on a beach. I have been watching your
iPhone mirroring. I’ve found that on my phone I have to turn the phone off and back on to reboot to get the mirror to work on my tv.
Even there, it doesn't seem to specify AirPlay in particular, which is what Apple uses. I imagine it might use Miracast instead, which works with Android and more recent versions of Windows.
Edit: Clarified that Miracast is a recent windows addition
Edit 2: Fixed spacing
Wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. Thanks for the video
How did you getKenny Loggins to be in your video?
