Korg Minilogue Audio In: how you REALLY use it.

- Using a GM module as (basically) a 3rd vco on the Minilogue. Now minus the potato camera. See pt 1 • Korg Minilogue Audio I... for a better explanation in the description.
Holy shit, this is incredible! I'll have to try something like this with my Monologue at some point.
Thanks for watching, I hope it helps you find some new sounds. General Midi modules aren't horribly expensive if you don't have one. I bought the sc55 for DOS gaming but it makes a great 3rd voice for the minilogue.
listened to this through my audio in port on my minilogue lol get wrecked
This is SO awesome. Thank you for the tutorial, friend.
So glad you found it interesting/useful, cheers!
Clever!! Thank you!
Thanks. I was torn between the xd and the Minilogue. I’m leaning toward the Minilogue because I have some nice guitar pedals that can embellish the sound.
Both great machines. I also use a lot of pedals so I went with the normal Minilogue. Also no audio in on the XD unfortunately.
@@skate323k137 Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, no audio in is a major consideration. I also think there is more control over the sound with individual pedals.
The Minilogue's block diagram has the input getting added to the pre-VCF mix, so it's absolutely another oscillator. I think this is why input got cut on the XD. If you look at the XD's block diagram it has the multi engine hitting the mix at the same place as the Minilogue's input path, so they could use the same voice circuitry as on the Minilogue, but add a digital oscillator. Given you can do anything you want with the input it gives the Minilogue much more versatility than the XD, at the cost of the convenience of having a digital programmable oscillator right on board.
Makes a lot of sense. Appreciate you taking the time.
This is exactly what I was thinking they did
With the audio In feature and MIDI connection to the Sound Source you wanna add in, you can kinda simulate a third oscillator like on a Minilogue XD with some limitations of course. I also tried to feed the Minilogue headphone output back in through a little pre-amplifier with volume control (to be able to tame the signal a bit) so it thickens up the sound a little bit like you would on a Mini Moog.
Very nice. I have an overdrive on my Mininlogue now, but it only sounds good with mono patches of course.
@@skate323k137 Yeah the Mono Mode really often benefits a certain sound on that Synth. Even without additional effects. The Sub oscillator feature is what i often use when using the Mono Mode :) Sooooooo useful and sadly only available there but from the limitation comes creativity.
@@KRAFTWERK2K6 sub oscillator is an amazing feature for sure! I have all sorts of octave pedals but nothing beats that thickness
@@skate323k137 Oh yeah. Especially when you can adjust the amount of it so nicely and really making it roll in as much as needed. This is also why i don't really use the Unisono mode a lot because the Sub oscillator with a bit of cross modulation sounds even more massive.
Nice result! I try to put the audio out of the drumbrute on my minilogue to play both machine together seem impossible to do...you have any idea how i should do this ?
I don't own a Drumbrute myself, but looking at one on the surface, a couple options... Keep in mind I made these videos in the first place because of the potential headaches of drum machines through the minilogue, but still, this is my advice;
Primary option of course is just audio output into the minilogue audio in. You need to start a sequence running, and then turn down the VCO's, to allow the audio through. See my video about Minilogue and electric guitar if you need a little more direction there.
secondary option getting crazy, which could be fun, would be to run both the audio out and MIDI out of the drumbrute to the respective IN's on the Minilogue. In theory every time the Drumbrute plays and sends a midi note it would open the gate on the minilogue (and also trigger sound from the minilouge itself, unless you turned down the VCO's). This could get interesting and if you try it let me know!
When did you get this setup, Alex?
Some new, some ooooold. Minilogue is minty fresh.
does it need to be plugged into monitors or speakers to be able to hear it? or does it have its own speaker
You need headphones or an amplifier
Is it actually modulating or just being mixed in with the waveform?
Mixed In with the waveform is probably a better description actually.
@@skate323k137 Thanks. Yeah, from what I can see it doesn't offer much other than passing external audio through the filter. I don't think anyone using a minilogue is short of ways to mix other sounds in with it, either with a hardware mixer or in a DAW. Still good to know though - the ML filter is pretty unique and I'm sure there are a few good creative uses for it on other sources.
@@db3944 heard.... I made this because people were running drum machines and stuff into them which is all but completely pointless. This at least opens up more creative opportunities. Also how it handles keys for ARP vs MIDI out creates interesting sounds, or it can make a half mono half poly patch if that makes sense (minilogue set to mono but the SC still has full poly).
