I have a 2001 Accord 2.3 L VTEC with a 5 speed. It has 280k miles and runs great. Leaks oil from rear main seal and somewhere on the drivers side of the motor. Wish you were my neighbor. Great series..

I’m a rookie mechanic with a huge aspiration to rebuild a car. Was going to do my ej207 out of my old bugeye Subaru but that never happened before I had to sell it. Just started on my girlfriends 99 accord same engine. 250k miles and a bad crankshaft wobble. So convinced her to let me pull it and refresh the block and rebuild it so she will be good for another 300k
Both are common on these cars as the newest of them are approaching 20 years of service. The heat makes the seals hard and then they don't seal properly any more. There is also an internal oil seal on the distributor shaft which can fail and allow oil to contaminate the inside of the distributor. I had my local mechanic replace the vtec seals as they are in a tight spot on the rear of the engine.
There is a guy on UA-cam with a turbo F series accord that appears to be pretty quick. I personally wouldn't bother with a single cam if I were to build one for power. Plus, you are going to find way more performance parts for a K series.
Most knocking is a bad bearing on the crank or a connecting rod. This will show you everything you need to tear it down and reassemble it. Hopefully you don't need any machine work. If you have any questions along the way, I'll try to help you out. Good luck!
If it is a bad bearing, it's pretty obvious. It will be chewed up. If it chewed up the crank too, you will need to get it resurfaced and use a thicker bearing. The machine shop would tell you or sell you the right ones. I'm betting it's a connecting rod bearing.
I recently replaced the hose that goes underneath the distributor I've had an accident recently happened where my hands were too big and I needed to take the distributor off the engine block( I have a 98 Honda Accord LX 2.3 4 cylinder)... After I attach the new hose I went to put on the distributor and must not put it incorrectly or put it in 180° and the two tabs at the end of that rotor that goes into the camshaft I believe have broken off and I was wondering why my car wouldn't start after everything was put back together so took off the distributor again and notice the two tabs of metal broke off into that slot in the camshaft and I saw them literally fall off and now the problem is I need to get those two pieces of metal tabs that have slid off that camshaft slot right when you open up the distributor location on the engine... My question is do you have any idea how to get those metal tabs out I bought a little expendable magnet but where the opening is I'm not too sure if I can put the magnet inside that round location do you have any suggestions? Btw I've also opened the valve cover just in case
Those pieces have to be under the valve cover somewhere. It would be an incredible stroke of bad luck to have made it down one of the oil passages. Might have to pull the rocker assembly. Sorry to hear about your troubles. Good luck.
@@ktecgarage wow I am so lucky there's a wall that separates the rocker assembly from the camshaft slot and I just needed a smaller magnet to fish out the two broken off tabs from the distributor.... I'm good now. Just need to find new dizzy... Btw I ended up watching your whole rebuild engine videos haha.... You are the real hero to us 6th gen owners very good job thank you
@@ktecgarage sorry to bother you again I don't want to be a pest but I spoken to some people and they told me that I might have messed up the timing I'm not too sure what to do now I got the new distributor and would not know how to put it in could you give me a direction
Unless you took the cam off you should be fine. Take out your number 1 spark plug and spin the engine clockwise until you feel compression from the spark plug tube. Then when you install the new dizzy, take the cap off and make sure the rotor is pointing at the 10 to 11 o'clock position before you slide it home. Then you'll be fine. No bother at all!
@@ktecgarage how would I turn the engine? Spark plugs tube? You mean that long rubber boot that goes into the engine? And where would I put my hand on to feel the pressure?
I did leave the trans on the engine when I removed it. I did not record that because I didn't know at the time I was going to UA-cam the rebuild. Taking it out is VERY easy compared to putting it back in. With the proper equipment, it's not very hard to pull it. If you are considering doing this, go for it. The rebuild series I have here should help you getting it all back together. It's scary at first, but you'll see that anyone can do it. Good luck! Edit: And if you have any questions along the way, ask on the relevant video and I'll try to help. That's what I do.
Standard. I believe the other options are for parts that have been machined. You should double check with the manufacturer before trusting a stranger on the interwebs, tho! Good luck!
@@ktecgarage Got it, that makes sense. Well I trust you. It takes skill to rebuild an engine, even more to do so on video. I am rebuilding my F23A4 instead of buying a new car. Thank you for your videos, I could not do this otherwise.
