- I've been meaning to pick up a PSP Go in good condition, and it just so happens the time for that is now. In what might be the rarest sighting you'll see this year so far, let's check out this Japanese PSP Go together. I'll even head to the PlayStation Store and (gasp) buy some games for it! This really was Sony's original digital machine, it just came 12 years too early. Though at this point even the PS5 digital edition feels too soon for many. Either way, let's bask in the PSP nostalgia. Come on in, the waters warm.

nintendo ip are perfect for the casual portable gamer, hence their dominating sales in japan, unless they are able to lock up mh or dq exclusivity they have a tough road ahead of them if they ever choose to jump back in the race

@@Royal13Knight to be fair though as one ages that stuff can get worse. The Vita after a bit more play time would have me stopping to stretch my hand muscles. Even recently on PS5 which is definitely perfect for my hands was cramping up after playing a certain amount of MHW and Demon's Souls. At least I'm not a pro gamer from Korea who has multiple surgeries for their hands...
I say the last bit as a joke of course. If not known pro korean gamers are so dedicated. They have their hands messed up by around mid thirties. Though since they take it as serious as a pro sport who those can have crippling injuries it makes sense. Not that I think that is a good thing, but that I understand the mentality. Rather have my hands functioning decently till I die myself.

it's still hard to play it now since the console is too old while having ps4.
When you close the lid and get the analog clock, press both of the shoulder buttons to get a calendar and then using each shoulder button you scroll through the months!
I found my psp again a little while ago and was amused. Ended up putting together a new battery and removing the umd. Brought back some fond ass memories

Where did you get a new battery?
Sadly I couldn't find an "official" battery. I ended up using the guts from the old battery and an old cell phone battery soldered together. The guts of the old battery was a sort of charge circuit and charge protection. It took some doing to get everything working again but I think it was worth it. Maybe I'll make a video about it soon

The build quality is amazing my only problem is how awkward it feels holding such a tiny device. Just bought a power armor shell and vita battery to stick in mine so hopefully it’ll add a little more weight and girth so I can actually hold it in my palms somewhat
I remember hating the PSP Go when it was first announced. Little did we know that digital games were the way of the future. Plus, that little thing's design has aged much better than the regular PSPs.

I hated it too when it was first announced. Even though I was in middle school at the time, I knew no physical media was a no go. One of my friends at the time was the only person at my school to own one.

I thought I was the only freak who likes the default settings on my consoles the way the manufacturer presented it to me day one. 😂😂😂. Ahhh the tester and pulse. Christina Lee....had such a crush on her. Lol. Damn I'm so nostalgic now. I miss the ps3 days for sure.

That's why I downloaded all the pulse episodes because they were free and of course Christina Lee 😍. And the Tester....that's where I learned about "Beer"ios worst idea ever.

The PSP Go is my primary PS1 console. Because it outputs 240p natively which is great for my CRT TV and my Scaler. It supports the PS3 controller, it has a dock that works like the Switch, and it natively supports save states.
I went to buy one of these when they came out. I didn't realise that it was digital only! I never bought one, I like something hard and physical for my game money.

Learning the PlayStation buttons in a different position in Japan is the most mind blowing thing I’ve heard while.
Slide to open electronics are so underrated in tactile feel. My first smartphone was a Droid 4 with the slide out keyboard. The feeling of sliding the keyboard in and out was unparalleled.
I had a PSP 3000 and ton UMDs, like god of war, Prince of Persia, Need for speed, Smackdown vs Raw 2011, TMNT, ben 10 protector of earth and vilgax attacks and many more! Good times!
I’ve Had The PSP Go Since The Initial Release & It’s Still Operational. Still Use It To This Day Without Homebrew Or Modding. Such An Under Appreciated System.
Why not homebrew or mod it? I own one too and I've homebrewed it and am planning on swapping it's battery and doing a physical expansion mod

I tip my hat to you, sir. Finally, somebody that gets it! I got my first PSP GO in 2020 and it’s still unmodded. Crash bandicoot, Silent Hill, MGS1, The Warriors…..it’s mind blowing.
PSP Go laid the groundwork for the switch, with its hybrid nature and dock.
Pretty sure the DS, 3DS and Wii U laid the groundwork for it. 80% of the Switch nintendo game library is ports of Wii U games
@@Personx2 having ports/versions is another thing, and being inspired by the design of something is another. Sure Switch has Wii U ports, they were titles which were destined to be lost in obscurity if they were not brought to Switch (well not really, but you get the point), but I am pretty sure that the PSP Go also had an impact on Switch's design, as much as the Wii U or even greater.
@@qui3041 I can almost guarantee that Nintendo didn't look at the flop that the PSP Go was as inspiration. If they did I'm impressed how they turned out.

@@noahdejesus5601 The PSP Go didn't flop, because it was bad. Sure, there were some bad decisions but in 2009, digital games weren't as common as they are now, so people massively preferred to have physical copies of video games. Also, the hardware was getting older and they made dumb decisions, like the M2 format and a new proprietary charger. Nowadays, it's so easy to mod any model of the PSP, that it's definetly worth picking up. I prefer the 3000 because of the more comofortable design, since I have pretty big hands. :) I can see the visiual appeal of the Go, but other than a collector's item, I'd prefer the 2000/3000 any day.

Very good memories made with PSPs. Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, Logan's Shadow, and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops were my Call of Duty back in the days. The online multiplayer in those games on PSP are ahead of its time

Super cool to see you playing klonoa very uncommon game but still really fun for it's age, I remember playing it for hours on my ps1 with no memory card and just never shutting it off, great memories!

I still play my PSP 3000 all the time. Unfortunately the original battery and my pair of extended life batteries are wearing down. Fortunately I have a combo power/data cable from an unofficial accessories kit that lets me use any power bank to run it
btw do you know if buying a ps vita now is worth it? 100 bucks on ebay is a good deal in my opinion and truth is i never owned a vita so it would be nice to add it to my collection but i believe sony is already working on a new handheld console for next gen. What's your opinion? :)

@@GRGCompletionist i just got a white oled vita on ebay for $115. Its definitely worth it. Its from japan so its in mint condition. Just have to replace my battery because its drains too fact. Batteries cost like 8 bucks and really easy to replace.
Persona 3 Portable changed my life. Such a good game in a good console.

I can't begin to describe how many countless hours of fun I had on my PSP. I had my first one in 2008, but it stopped working years ago :(
The PSP was such a great system. It had a lot of great games on it, and the fact that you could download PS1 games and play them on the go for the first time was awesome. I still have my original model and I have a JP 3000, and an E1000 as well.
One of the best Handhelds ever!

i still love my psps to, i got one go when it came out because with my 1004 i already mostly bought my games digitaly but sadly thhe display somehow stopped working so i got another one later, nowadays i just put cfw on my and my boyfriends old sony devices. for as awesome as the original umd feeling is, it is just so satisfying to have your complete collection on one system
Loved my PSP. Nothing beats the feel of it.
That being said, normal phones can play PSP games but it just doesn't have the same feel

do you convert your own to eboots, or what ever? seems like i converted all my favorite ps1 games, even gran tourismo 1 and 2 to run on psp, imo the best racing games on the psp

I bought all PSP Games, TG-16 Classics, PSone Classics and minis from the PlayStation Store while the countdown to Trolls Holiday in Harmony!
I’m now planning on getting my hands on a PSP go due to the store closing soon, and like you I’m not a fan of pirated games, although I might get an older psp to put a custom firmware on it for copying umd’s to the Go

@@lesterbronson2385 it’s harder to buy them (unless your a freak like me who still own a PS3 and PS Vita). That said, with how easy it is to mod a PSP I suggest doing it so you can use emulators etc.

I still have my PSP 3000 CFW model working until this day, all that I need is to fix the memory card place holder and battery.

I am still playing my PSP go in 2021. There are so many great games. I had a VITA but there is something that PSP OS that I love to use.
Man I wish playstation didn't give up on psvita . Fk , imagine an updated psvita with current graphics and techs. I would pay hella money!
I honestly regret buying my PS Vita, I've only ever had Mortal Kombat on it because none of the games that were announced for it were spectacular imo. I took it out a second time to Second Screen my Ps4 on it, but the video delay just makes it obsolete.

I get that you’re entitled to your opinion, but I found games like Uncharted Golden Abyss, Killzone Mercenary, WipEout 2048, Freedom Wars, Soul Sacrifice to be pretty cool

Im just bummed tht playstation stopped putting effort and time into psvita , and tht is why game devs also stopped trying to make any AAA games for psvita.
Now just imagine if playstation improved the vita, or maybe even created psvita 2, with amazing games made for it, it could’ve been toe to toe with nintendoswitch or even better. Maybe even have some of the ps4 exclusive games made playable for vita/vita2. Now that would make any old psvita players satisfied and happy.🤷🏽♂️
Psp was my favorite handheld device. It was so versatile. It can store games, movies, music, pictures and acted as a flash drive and internet access back then. With the hack you can store psp, ps1, arcade games, game boy color and advance games, snes, n64 and few ds games minus the touch screen. It's still my favorite handheld even having all ds versions, switch and ps vita. The psp had a bad battery life though and wasn't able to deflect sunlight the first model.

Crazy the power difference between the DS and the PSP
I used to have the PSP 2000 and loved it, same with the OG PSVita. Well over 6 years ago I bought a white PSP Go from a friend for $50 and I will never sell it, I love that thing and its still shiny and all, it shows some signs of use but nothing too extreme. I bought an Aqua Blue PS Vita Slim too quite a few years back and that’s another one I’m keeping. Fantastic devices, and with the custom software scene still strong, these are worth every scent ever payed.
This is why we had websites like PSNStores during the PS3/PSP

If you own a PS Vita, then you don't need a PSP model of your choosing.
@Phawnix you can just install CFW on the Vita an you basically have a PSP Go and all PSP games for free.
Tried to put a UMD into my Vita, didn't work. :( Seems i need to keep my PSP.

I absolutely loved my PSP. I didn't get a GO because I'm not a fan of digital only platforms, but it is quite nice looking.

PSP Go was neat, I remember owning one and it was a blast when I was young.
Even if a big letback was it not supporting UMDs, it was still good.
The PSP and PS3 theme UI is the best UI in my opinion, I fell in love with that UI when I got my PS3 in 2013

The screen of PSP Go is the best screen of PSP series. Also I love that form factor and size

I just got into PSP a month ago after getting a pristine 2000 with games for $70. Then after I found the Gran Turismo 3000 bundle for $80 CIB. What an awesome little machine.

I'd highly recommend a vita, PSP is amazing too but vita can play psp games better while also playing vita games, but of course psp on vita is digital only

I love the PSP Go. Great video. The Go was my first handheld console, and I only bought it because I had started playing games on an original iPod Touch, and liked having everything there digitally. When the Go was announced, I remember thinking - that’s awesome I can get a real portable gaming console and buy all the great PSP games I had missed out on. There was so much uncertainty about how many digital PSP games would be added to the PSN store, because there were very little or none online before launch. I checked on my PS3 on the morning of the PSP Go launch day and found about 200 digital games were added - including God of War Chains of Olympus. That was enough for me, and I bought the console that day during my lunch break. Even the sales guy at Best Buy tried to convince me to get the PSP 3000 instead so I could buy UMDs, lol. Anyway, it was a terrific system that eventually led me to the Vita. But I definitely have fonder memories of the PSP Go, which is still in great shape. Cheers!

If PSP Go was released in nowadays it would have been a success
Glad i still have mines. I have the white one. I still use it also. Especially for music.

I had it. The fact that there is not micro SD slot (not even the sony expensive ones) was a dealbraker for me. I sold it. Got a vita, still have it, and I love it.
