    I checked the Daniel Defense website and they now offer an upper receiver group that has the same barrel, rail system, three-pronged muzzle device that you put together. I wonder if someone at the company saw your video and thought, hey, that's a good idea. Let's cash in.

    I'm happy for you, Bradley. If you ever have an itch to go "full-auto," and want an interesting novelty, try a bump stock. Certainly NOT mil spec, but you can have some fun with it on the range. No tax stamp required of course. Definitely not recommended for urban home defense.

      +Justin Wilson - Losing the military contract definitely hurt them, but it sounds like they'll be sticking around for the foreseeable future. They'll just have to focus more on civilian sales I guess. Let's hope the quality doesn't suffer. That's why I wanted to purchase one now, just in case!

    You now have Black Rifle Disease and it's the hardest addiction to cure, so don't even try. I've had 2 KAC Mod 1's, 1 KAC CQB Mod1, multiple KMR BCM rifles, a bunch of Colt rifles, and a few DD's and I'm just now getting around to the clone game. This is an excellent video. I've ran the M4 SOPMOD for years and I can tell you its decent. Mind you I never touched a rifle before joining the service so when I left a line company and got through selection I thought trading in my M16A2 for an M4 SOPMOD was the greatest thing ever. However like I said I didn't know much about firearms outside of what I used in the service. Now that I'm open I've done some contracting overseas and spent time as a FLE I can say there are a lot better rifles out there.
    So if I were to do a build which I have done several of I would recommend not doing a clone but, making a rifle to serve a purpose. One of the best things about the SOPMOD is that when it comes to you, you get a pelican case filled with attachments so you can refit your rifle according to your individual role or mission.
    Great vid and build by the way.

      Did you like the gas piston or direct impingement version of the M4A1?

    • @BlackBullRising
      @BlackBullRising 8 років тому +1

      +Andrew Gordon I ran the MOD1 and my only experience with GP (in the military) came durring testing of the 416 & SCAR-L; outside of that they have all been civilian models. So I would have to say it depends on the barrel length. The 416, I tested was an 11" CQB variant which felt great even with a surpressor. As compared to the 14.5" SCAR-L & 16.5" ACR which neither seemed as well balanced. Although the SCAR-L is relatively light weight it was front heavy, although nothing in comparison to the ACR. So keeping the barrel under 14.5" with surpressor is crucial (at least to me).
      The recoil impulse of the GP vs DI was a little different. DI AR's just feel organic regardless of length. I remember thinking the 416 felt weird for something so similar. The impulse of the SCAR-L was about the same but felt organic to that platform. However running the 416 at full auto both surpressed and unsurpressed was a lot easier than doing the same with a DI of the same length. I'll chop that up to the over all balance. I will say that fixing these issues is a lot easier as a cilivian than service memeber. You can always buy something to offset a deficiency. In the service what u get is what you get unless you're Tier 1 or just have a bad ass armorer that doesn't mind drifting from the regs a bit.
      I hope I was able to answer your question.

    • @andrewgordon235
      @andrewgordon235 8 років тому

      BlackBullRising Thanks for answering my question. So front and back balance is the key to consistent accuracy.

    • @BlackBullRising
      @BlackBullRising 8 років тому +1

      Andrew Gordon I'm sorry I must have misunderstood or didn't fully read your original question. If the question is which one offers better accuracy there is no real answer for nothing beats sound engineering. A well engineered rifle will always be accurate. I was mainly speaking in regards to comfort and personal preference. For example I went door to door in Fallujah and I would've hated running a heavy or unbalanced rifle. There's no way I would've been able to keep my gun up for prolonged period of time. Hell even a light weight rifle proved difficult after a few hours.

    You had me sold at the FSP handguard.... because FSP = life... Very nice build. I'm currently getting ready to build a FSP Block II myself. All clone correct as issued of course. The parts are getting really freaking expensive. I just scored a gen 1 sopmod stock and a 4 prong surefire flash hider. Its insane playing $300+ for a flash hider, but thats what you have to do in order to get the. BTW, you can now get the 4 prongs a bit more easily now. They are standard equipment on the Geissele clone URG-I's and people are buying them and parting them out. I think this is due to some units using the SF War Comps because they are superior and people wanting to also use them. They buy the clone upper, sell the flash hider for a quick buck and install a War Comp. I've also got the correct handguard for a 28th EOD Mk18 clone build (just sitting on it for now) and I plan on doing a block 1 Mk18 in the future as well because it is hand down my favorite rifle of all time.
    On another note, the Gen 1 sopmod stocks were used as you mentioned. They're the ones without the QD swivel. I have the FDE Gen 1 that was a gov surplus deal. Came in gov packaging and has no logo's on it, just codes and such. Its cool as hell. There are a lot of surplus genuine parts out there with all the cage codes and what not, but they go for even crazier amounts of money.

      @@jsolomon2828 Most clone parts have gone through the roof with this whole gun buying crazy. I've seen Colt lowers go for as much as $1900. Luckily I've got most of the clones I want. Theres a lot of cool clones out there and I do want to "collect them all", but those 2 are the only ones I absolutely must have that I don't already own and haven't already started. +David Pidlypchak - The 14.5" SOCOM barrels use a carbine length gas system. I would maybe do a mid-length for a 16" barrel, but the 14.5" is what the carbine-length gas system was made for. So far it's worked great.

    You can have a select fire lower receiver! You have to pay the $200 tax stamp just the same as you would a sound suppressor!

    I don't know why you would ever go with the FSP rail... I haven't seen many ref pics of the FSP rail being used at all. I bought the factory Daniel Defense M4A1 and all I'll have to do is swap the stock with an LMT, trigger with Geiselle, and grip with a Tango Down. Already picked up an EOTech 553.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  8 років тому

      +Hercules Milsim - If you had watched the video, you would know why I went with the FSP. I like it, and it IS used in the field, especially in the last few years. If you're worried about authenticity, the last thing YOU should be using is a Daniel Defense rifle. They definitely AREN'T "clone correct." If you want a clone, the most fundamental thing you start with is a Colt. But hey, it's your rifle.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube

      Definitely a lot of politics involved, and Colt hasn't made the best decisions lately. Suing the government probably wasn't the best idea if they wanted to get future contracts! As far as my research has uncovered though, the M4A1s in use by SOCOM are still Colts.

    That's a filthy (in a good way) Colt m8!!! I recently bought a new 1/7 5.56 Colt LE6920-FDE with Magpul furniture and had an EOtech...in the process of picking out a Triji to put on top of it. I do NOT like Aimpoint's lineup the same as you, just boring and a big dot. I miss my EO.....so precise....but anyway love your gun! May your marriage last forever!!! Haha (I watched both vids) probably one of the nicest carbines I've seen put together - and honest. Good day man!!

    Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the military version of the rifle (s) you are speaking about. The full auto select is limited to 3 round bursts with every pull of the trigger?

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 років тому

      +Cosmicblast77 - As far as I know, the M4 is single fire and three-round burst, but the M4A1 is single fire and full auto. Thanks for watching!

      Thanks! God, I'm not sure about the total price, and I've added things since these videos. The upper and lower were around $700. The rail was about $300. Definitely over $1200 without the optic.

      They may get quite a bit more expensive here too. People are getting worried about how the political climate will effect availability and legality.

    I know I know. You want to stay mil-spec, but is it really going to kill your build to change up that trigger? The pull on the mil triggers are horrible. Geiselle ssa-e is a good one.

    • @stuffandthingsyoutube
      @stuffandthingsyoutube  9 років тому +2

      +Ernest Sheffield - I hear you, but I've never been a trigger-job kind of guy. I figure if I can't shoot well with the stock trigger, I shouldn't be shooting at all. I have to say though, this particular gun has one of the cleanest mil-spec triggers I've ever fired. Got lucky I guess.

    what does the buffer do? I live in Aus so manual actions only for us so not to familiar with ars

    • @ernestsheffield9976
      @ernestsheffield9976 9 років тому +2

      It pushes the bolt carrier group forward after the gasses push it back. The gas and the buffer are what make it a semi auto. It also kills a lot of the recoil. Not that a 5.56 or 223 kicks a lot.

    • @jakeevans7075
      @jakeevans7075 9 років тому +1

      yeah i've shot a 556 bolt and barley anything great for rabbits and such

    • @ernestsheffield9976

      Isn't that a bit overkill for rabbits? I know people that go boar hunting with 5.56. But I'm not really an expert. I only like killing paper or steel.
