Canadian gun laws are silly (AR-15 vs WK-180)

  • Explaining the gun laws in Canada and how they apply to certain firearms. There are inconsistencies that are frustrating for the average firearm owner to deal with. There are real issues that should be dealt with and laws that should be changed to protect what little rights and freedoms we have left.
Comparing the Sig M400 with the WK-180 Gen 1
Both are 5.56 semi-automatic magazine fed rifles. One is prohibited and one is non-restricted
I think the AR-15 is one of the most practical firearms ever produced and it is frustrating that people, especially law makers believe it to be more dangerous or a firearm that deserves more restriction.
Gun makers find a way to provide a suitable firearm in a high demand market.

They forbid gun owners from owning one for the sole purpose of self defense but not from using a firearm owned for other purposes. People can and do get self defense cases dropped all the time. This is because our crown prosecution will drop cases that aren't guaranteed to win as they are afraid of their loss becoming case law. Dear Sir as a firearms owner in Canada, I would appreciate it in future videos that you refrain from comparison between restricted and non restricted firearms. Although I agree that the ridiculous criteria that is used in the classification process is illogical. there is a lot of flexibility in what we can own because the incompetence of the policy makers UNTIL well meaning members of the firearms community draw specific attention to a firearms platform. You are doing their job for them by proving the similarities between the two and asking “why this and not this?” So they see this, hear this and surprise it is now on the list. Don’t think it can happen? Black creek labs BCL 102, agressive “in your face” marketing strategy. Not an AR blah ,blah, blah, nonrestricted you can’t stop us. Challenge accepted it’s on the list. Lots of time effort and financial commitment goes it to the R&D to create products we can buy. So ask yourself is it worth jeopardizing the future of a company and its employees for a few likes. Canadian Gun laws are a nonsensical and unfair to law abiding citizens those who know, know. STOP DOING THEIR WORK FOR THEM. This should have been a no brainer.

    • @theguywithbeardgunsandgear

With all due respect, I use the terms Restricted, non-restricted and prohibited because those are the recognized nomenclature from the Firearms Act. I agree that those terms are outdated and make no sense to the user or law maker however, terms such as long guns etc are colloquialisms and not legally recognized unless describing a firearm within a category.
Firearms do not get reclassified because people identify flaws and inconsistent laws BCL introduced a firearm promising an unrestricted firearm before it was classified by the FRT, all new firearms go through this process.
The Firearms Act needs to be completely re-written and we need to remove non elected “officials” from the classification process.
The WK -180 is an AR-18, and yet unrestricted because it does not share operating properties with the AR-15

I often state that to understand Canadian gun laws you have to understand a “Feel Good Law”. A politician needs to be re-elected and they must impress the voters by changing a law, the appearance of doing something, to fix a problem so voters “Feel Good” so they will vote for them again. But the law doesn’t do anything. It makes people feel good but doesn’t do anything. That is how to explain Canadian gun laws to a person who does not understand guns. All of these firearms laws have no base to them, they are a gross over step of civil liberties and contradict themselves heavily. Thankfully there are still a few "tactical" semi auto 5.56's we can own but the markets limited. The keltec PLR16 is alright but has its own shortcomings same with the RDB. Most if not all the AR180B clones are a burning pile of trash and are ridiculously expensive and the few that are decent such as the Crusader templar Gen 2 or the Sterling R18 MK2 are overpriced as hell. The Benelli MR1 is alright but has some reliability issues along with pricing, scarcity and lack of mod options. The Raven Platinum is a good rifle but is rather scarce and the resell price is atrocious for what the rifle is, thankfully the company is taking some steps to make a lower cost version of the rifle at cost of cutting out features. The Macabee SLR and ATRS series of rifles are in a legal gray zone cause of the 2020 bans and are generally hard to find and expensive. The T97 (any gen) is no longer imported and the price of a cheap CCP made bullpup are astronomically high. CZ brens are nice but also pricey and good luck finding a NR Bren under 4000. and that leaves us with the last few guns such as the OG AR180B Rifles, the B&T APC Series, the Bushmaster ACR, the Valmet M76, Famae SG543 and all of these guns have issues, they are all expensive as hell the lowest being 3000 if your lucky, they are generally rare as hell, parts can be difficult to find and some rifles like the Famae and Valmet have Mags that are difficult to find and expensive. Im sure there are some guns i missed like K&M M17S or some other rifles that are unique on Gunpost, but these rifles generally suffer from one or more of the same issues as the other guns; quality, cost, availability, parts availability, modability etc. In short the AR really was the affordable do all for canadian shooters, but we lost that right by letting a drama teacher run the Government.

In Canada in most provinces you can’t even hunt large game with .223 because it’s too small to ensure an ethical kill.

I'm no expert or anything but the .223 is just a slightly heavier round traveling much faster is it not?
I'm not giving my guns up. Not happening, I went through the courses, I paid the money, I had the background checks, I got both my PAL and Restricted PAL and I'll be damned if I let the left make us criminals for enjoying something that should be a god given right. Guess what? If I wanted to cause massive damage and hurt a lot of people guns wouldn't be the way I would do it. And for the record I would never ever do anything like that but just so people can get in through there head there are far easier ways to create something that could cause mass destruction and death than an AR with 5 rounds in it. And thats another thing, the whole 5 round limit is total bullshit. I should be allowed to stick as many rounds as I want in my mags.
The only reason these laws are being put in place is so that they can start to make and put in the real laws that are going to fuck over Canadians to benefit the upper-class and Trudeau's family, or so they can fun the proxy war going on in Ukraine so they can try and overthrow and destabilize Russia indirectly all while we suffer gas prices, food prices, home prices and job wages that are simply unsustainable and guess what? There aint a fuckin thing you will be able to do about it, you try to protest they will arrest you and throw you in jail, strip you of your right to vote so that they can keep the people they want it. How you going to stop it? They are the ones with the military, they have the body guards with full auto ARs and submachine guns, they are the ones with the ability to eradicate dissent by any means necessary.
A government disarming its population is an extremely bad sign of what is to come if Trudeau or the Liberals period are allowed to rule over Canadians like they have been. Personally I think we should break ties to the Britain and make our own independence and make damn sure we have a 2nd amendment so we can have the freedoms we deserve and the ability to fight against tyranny. But that's just my opinion. Either way, for god sakes just leave gun owners alone. ARs are used for hunting, I will be using my Cru Arms Temp 556 for hunting, plinking and sport shooting. And of course home defense cause ain't no way someones gonna come into my house and take the stuff I've sacrificed the most important thing in my life for, time!

If you happen to live in a not-gun-friendly state like California, Oregon, Washington, Illinois, NY, Massachusetts, New Jersey, etc., you can easily move to a gun-friendly state like Texas, Florida, Alaska (too cold!), TN, ND, SD, MT, SC, NC, etc.

I just got my rpal, is it a caliber issue as well? I see all semi autos are .22lr, 5.56N, or 7.62x39... no one makes a useable sporting rifle like a 6.5 Creedmore, or even 7.62N. I would love something fun to range, but I can also take out for Deer or Elk. 7.62x39 just has no range. It's fine to kill people but even for a deer, you need at least 1k ft/lbs and it has a deer/elk range of only 120 yards and a 7.62N is about 600yards
And yes here in Saskatchewan, there is a large boar problem... they are almost open season, just not at night

    • @theguywithbeardgunsandgear

5.56 is pretty much the standard for Modern Sporting rifles, back before ARs were prohibited you could get an AR 10 chambered in .308 but as it was determined to be a variant of the AR 15 it also went prohib. There are a few bull pup designs that are in .308 but they are really pricey.
The AR-18 or Wk-180 is just not a “reliable” firearm yet, pistons break etc. as for the 7.62x39 literally hundreds if not thousands of big game have been taken with the SKS when it was cheap and a viable hunting option, you’re right though ballistics go to shit at the 300 meter mark. I have a Ruger Ranch in 7.62x39 that I did a video on, love that firearm, I took it hunting this year and downed a 10 point buck, didn’t go 50 feet.
Being in the prairies I can understand why you’d want some legs on your cartridge, Browning BAR (.308 or 300 win mag) is a great semi for hunting but it is not a sporting rifle 🥲

If you're limited to 10 rounds, you can't do much better than an SKS. Ask the Vietnamese. If you're limited to 5 rounds, then maybe a shotgun makes more sense. The argument between AR platform vs AK or your Kodiak AR18 is a matter of personal preference. The AR here tends to be the choice of thumb over bore, anime watching, first person shooter gamer types who do mag dumps at 7M and consider "marksmanship" 50% hits on steel. But in all truth, a Lee Enfield does a lot for as old as it is. Regardless, infringement of the right to bear arms is tyranny.

    • @theguywithbeardgunsandgear

The 10 rounds law is a bit weird how it’s currently applied, the SKS for instance is capped at 5 rounds because it’s Center fire and semi-automatic. At the same time an AR platform may be used with a 10 round pistol magazine or a regular AR mag capped at 5 rounds?????
I do like the AR because of its modular approach and plethora of aftermarket accessories allowing the user to modify for their personal preference.
I agree that a spray and pray is not the best approach and I prefer a precise platform. I own a .303 and absolutely love it (gotta love British firearms).
A patrol type rifle (bolt or lever) seems to be a popular choice for Canadians because of the various nonsensical laws. I have a Ruger Rancher I absolutely love, stay tuned for multiple appreciation videos on that platform.

Yeah, 5 round limit is definitely crazy restrictive. A No. 4 rechambered or rebarreled to 7.62x54R gives it an edge. Rebarreled and converted into an L42 clone makes it a decent sniper type rifle. But the No. 4 even in .303B is a great DMR.

Im a bit of a purist when it comes to the Lee Enfield as I only own one and the price has climbed to the point of modifying is not practical also there is an extreme shortage of rounds for the .303.
I have a Ruger Rancher in 7.62x39 that is crazy accurate for what it is and paired with a LVO @ 1-6. It has slowly become my favourite range gun.

I would never bubba an SMLE or No. 4 (or any complete military rifle), but there are plenty of rifles on racks bubba already wrecked in terms of collectibility. Some remilitarize here. Others try to do Griffin & Howe types of sporters usually not very well. But the bubba rack in a gunshop is a always a good place to look for a "project": no, you'll never recoup your money from a project, but you will be able to make quite an effective and quasi-accurate firearm if you do your homework. Ruger M77 Scout is a cheaper way to have a decent "patrol" rifle out of the box. Not as fast as an Enfield but still quite effective. As far as semi-autos are concerned, if you're capped at 5 rounds then a shotgun might be your best bet. Although you all did have VZ58s "non-restricted" for a while and I believe they had 10 round "pistol mags" available. In the end, either you deliver a loss to Trudeau and his authoritarian flock or you'll end up with UK/Irish style gun control. As in having to have a permit to purchase an airsoft weapon which isn't painted in clown colors after waiting three months for approval and going in for an interrogation at the cop shop. Having the right to bear arms means you will have the possibility of defending all your other rights. Without the right to bear arms Trudeau and his crowd of pink triangle fascists will impose their will upon you and make you sing in chains. That's what Biden is trying to do in the US.
