LOL planning. Was thinking if I do a flat headstock 3 on a side, my neck blank would be long enough to use the scrap from the end to glue to the heel to make it thick enough.
Hmmm for a no neck pickup set neck,,, next build do the neck pocket and tenon and glue in the neck before putting the top on? Would take more planning. Trimming the top near the neck would have to be by hand. Can't try it myself. Don't have the budget for more wood. LOL for a painted guitar I was thinking of a Home Depot pine body. Too bad it would dent way too easy.
What about routing the normal neck pocket. Then drill in from the front (like we do for wire pass through holes) and under cut the top where the set neck tongue would go and then custom shape that hole with chisels to fit the tongue in snugly.
@@eklypse69 Have faith brother you have skills to do anything we need to do on a build. Hell if my old, blind, and shaky self can complete a neckectomy and Tetris it all back in you can surly do more than you think you can.
Sometimes the hardest things to figure out is the order of operations. Just wondering if you plan on making the the neck heel thicker like it would be on a Les Paul type guitar also are you planning on having a break angel on the neck if so you could plain it in the the front top of the guitar and then rout in the neck pocket.
Looking good, Jackson!

I originally debated a through neck, but ended up not doing it.
Trus rod router template sounds like a good idea... can't think why I've not done that yet lol
I've not done it yet because I'm getting sick of fabricating jigs and templates for this build! Lol

That probably would've been the way - if I had planned that far ahead lol

I did think about that, but I was afraid I wouldn't get it clean and snug and straight & flush all at the same time. I just did a bolt on neck.

No the neck won't be angled, because I'm putting a 7 string Floyd Rose on it. But you're right - order of operations is always a struggle.
yeaaaaah embrace the angle grinder! You're going to use a flap disc right? not one of those sawtooth straight-out-of-a-horror-film things?
