    I was robbed at the Spanish steps subway in Rome a number of years ago. My camera was stolen from my buckled/ zipped camera bag and my watch thankfully they couldn’t take as it had a deployment clasp that they couldn’t get over my hand!
    I say they! It was a whole family who targeted me. An old man who helped us at the ticket machine with his granddaughter ( added about 7) with the distraction she must have unbuckled my bag and zip. The change he gave me bought the ticket for my robbers to enter the subway! In the mad rush to get on a packed train a brother grabbed by camera, who passed it onto another relative on the platform as the doors was closing. When I went to the police who were outside the station they said, “ was it an old man and little girl and two brothers?” I said yes go and arrest them, he replied that every time we take them in they have nothing on them. They are a Romanian gypsy family who work as a gang to work tourists over!
    In the restaurant that evening I told that story to the owner who was so annoyed he gave us our meal for free.

    A tip for everyone who sees this video and it applies, this about pickpockets.
    Make sure you get a wallet that is large enough to fit in the front pocket, because pickpockets are rich in back pockets and inside pockets on blazers or open jackets. They can't snatch a wallet from the front pocket. If you want to be fucked, you can take an old wallet and put it in your back pocket and in the exchange where it should be, you can put a couple of notes the size of a dollar. On these you write Feel blown away.
    Had done this myself when I visited Stockholm in Sweden, down on the platform by the subway, it was crowded with people and all of a sudden I feel someone take my old wallet out of my back pocket. I stood still and looked over the crowd, all of a sudden I see a stack of white paper fly up into the air, then I had a good laugh because as I said the thief got a wallet with a pound of paper that said in big letters: Feel blown. The real wallet was in the front pocket with all my money (in those days there were no debit cards, but everything was paid in cash).

    • @888SpinR

    • @ingvartorma9789
      @ingvartorma9789 Місяць тому +2

      @@888SpinR Well, that's for sure, because the person who told me where to keep the wallet was a former pickpocket. Because he said they want to grab something quickly and disappear before the victim sees who it is. It is impossible to take a wallet from a front pocket in the trousers and is smaller so that it does not stick out.

    • @MrPatspp
      @MrPatspp Місяць тому

      @@888SpinR it's definitely not true, of course, depending on the conditions. But in Ciudad de México MFers are so good that, for instance, in the subway where it's crowded as hell they makes large groups, act like passengers and push you from the sides, front and back and distract you from any pockets and take your wallet/phone. I did fall for that once and never again. I keep my hands in my pockets grabbing my stuff when I gotta go in public transportation

    When going to a nice restaurant with a chance to get better service and brought to the front of a Queue because of how u look, than yes, wear appropriately. Going to to a casual meal with buddies, why wear designer clothes?

    So glad I don't care about any of this. I live in a warm weather climate. Jeans, chinos, t-shirts and maybe a polo if I want to dress up LOL. Pretty sure this guy would think I look "poor"...informality seemingly being his mortal enemy. Also, married to a gorgeous woman for eleven years. She and I both have zero desire to hang out at places where people wear suits and expensive bling. They look like places for uptight, pretentious, narcisists to go and try to impress like-minded folks. A $50k Rolex? Yeah...in my book, anyone wearing something like that is just saying, "Hi, I'm a douchebag!" I'm sure he made up that story, but if not, I'm laughing at him and buying the robber a Peroni.

    Not saying you’re lying but it doesn’t make your story any more convincing to say it was a friend of yours instead of quoting a well-worn tale that still applies to current events.

    1. Rich people are often easy targets because of their frequent lack of knowledge while traveling to different areas and not knowing which areas are dangerous etc.
    2. Also, the stats obviously don't back it up because poor people live in areas where criminality is higher, therefore being often targets of criminals, whilst rich people live in more safe areas.
    3. The feelings you gain by wearing different clothes are definitely real, but just because you might not be wearing something more professional shouldn't mean that the task at hand shouldn't be done in the best of your capabilities. It's basically a state of mind, and you might need clothes to enhance it (obviously certain shoes will make you run better etc. as these enhance your physical ability, not your psychological).
    4. Looking poor has, like any other type of clothing, a Purpose. We can see this in celebrities, to bore paparazzi while wearing the same ugly clothes. To not attract, to be ignored.
    5. Expensive clothes can look ugly (clothes in general) like the whole trends with supreme, Gucci etc. Knowledge of style is just as important for expensive clothing. Just getting second hand jeans, jackets and a plain t-shirts is often enough for someone to look presentable even if that person is poor.
    So at the end wearing whatever type of clothing, is not stupid as long as it has purpose.
    Following trends blindly, no matter the trend (expensive or not), can look stupid.

    I’m not so sure I agree with everything here. I grew up in Venezuela. The norm was “be low-profile.” Everyone I knew who was flashy, wore fancy clothes, watches, drove expensive vehicles, etc got robbed, mobbed, and even kidnapped and murdered. This was especially true if you were from a wealthy, well-known family. Yet a different contingent of society back home wanted to push the idea that you had to “dress to impress.” Yeah those people got a reality check coming 😂 Something I loved about moving to the USA is the lack of attention paid to those things - everyone just minds their own business. If you wanna dress like a bum, go ahead. If you want to dress like a multi-millionaire, go ahead. There are times where I just wanna get something from the grocery store and a go in my pijamas. But if I’m going out, it’s a nice shirt, slacks and a fancy leather jacket/blazer for me. If I wore something nice every single time I go out of the house, then it would lose it’s luster for me. Too much formality. The fact that I have my slippers and pijamas days makes the fancy leather jacket/blazer days that much more special.

    00:00 🤖 A friend had his $50,000 Rolex stolen in Rome; he realized that thieves often target those who seem vulnerable, not necessarily wealthy.
    01:10 🕵‍♂ Dressing well doesn't increase your risk of theft; thieves typically target the vulnerable, not those who dress nicely.
    01:31 📉 Dressing poorly can affect your confidence and performance negatively; studies show that wearing clothing associated with higher status can boost performance.
    03:38 🧠 Good grooming and dressing well can impact how others perceive your confidence and capabilities, even if they can't smell you.
    06:00 🚪 People often make snap judgments based on appearance; not looking the part can lead to missed opportunities and poor treatment.
    07:21 🎯 Dressing well opens hidden opportunities; appearance can influence how others perceive your potential and worth.
    08:33 🕴 Dressing well is important for personal and professional interactions; it’s better to put your best foot forward, even if you're frugal.
    08:45 💸 Being frugal and buying second-hand items can still allow you to dress sharply, but it requires time and style knowledge.
    09:05 🛍 It's okay to buy luxury items if it fits your budget and doesn't hinder your financial goals; balance between saving and enjoying life is important.
    09:35 🌟 Over-saving can lead to missing out on life's experiences; don't let frugality prevent you from enjoying life or improving your lifestyle.
