I think the general rule is the older you get , the more formal you wear , once your 45 or 50 , just stick with a white dress shirt and black dress pants and black formal coats .
There’s nothing wrong with being cool, but at the same time it seems Antonio to at least a certain degree. You are kind of promoting trends. Now forgive me for being a little sharp aren’t you kind of been a little bit of a hypocrite by promoting that especially at older ages? Again, if you’re promoting spice like a red power necktie to get compliments sure no problem but this fashion stuff is ridiculous. The fashion industry is off-the-wall crazy they don’t know what they’re doing. Also I need to kick this pretty hard stop wearing leather sneakers with suits. They may be nice sneakers but they don’t go with suits period!
I actually do agree with you on the color purple. Especially other guys that have darker complexion’s. I am actually starting to like the color royal purple! It’s truly with purple is it stands out in a good way like an under used color. I have a royal purple sweater it’s one of my favorites in my wardrobe just a solid color. Usually I wear with jeans and dress shoes.
I noticed that among many of my friends, the John Wick franchise made them get tailored suits for the first time in their lives. Perhaps that's a rare convergence of trend and timelessness..
@@bryanutility9609 Well you can't do much about not getting dirt on your clothes. What you could do is wear an Oxford Cloth Button Down as the shirt. It's hard wearing, so it won't get ripped as easily when you fight. Wrangler has some good work pants you can iron and dress up. So that's another piece you don't have to worry about damaging. Skip the neck tie, and go with an ascot. You don't have to button the collar button, meaning you can throw the ascot off and you're ready to fight. If you don't have the time, just keep it loose. The jacket is the hardest part, since you need something with maneuverability. It's definitely going to be a sport coat because of the Wranglers. I'd say an unstructured sport coat so you don't worry about damaging the shoulder pads, but I'm not too sure about the material. If you wanted to go even more casual, you can get a nice denim jacket, but that's not dressed up enough that people would confuse it for a suit(like how people call blazers suits). Footwear, definitely a kind of boot. I would say the nicest pair of work boots you can find. They're made to be comfortable and hard wearing, but if you can find a stylish pair, you can easily pass them off as something dressy. If you can get a steel toe, that's extra damage right there. I recommend cowboy boots. They can be easy to dress up, they're ment to do hard work, and no one will bat an eye as you. Plus you get an extra inch of high to intimidating your opponent.
My tip is to shop for items regularly instead of needing lots of new pieces all at once. You go into your local store and buy the 10 best items you can find, you're probably not finding the best best price. If you go in regular you will spot a beautiful item maybe wait until it's on sale if you don't like the price.
Age and wisdom are big factors for me/many. Younger generations can chase trends cheaply through fast fashion options. By the time I hit my 40s I had found my personal style. For lack of a better comparison, it was a James Dean look (IT guy by day, played in a band on weekends, casual at home and the office). Now into my 50s, I've refined that, but I've also had to start adding more formal elements as more occasions demand it (dinners, office events, funerals, etc.). I still break some of the rules b/c I don't care what people think any more, but for the most part, my closet will work if I'm fortunate enough to have many years ahead of me.

I'm in my 50s. A few years ago I lost 30 lbs. and needed to get a completely new wardrobe. I also decided to reinvent my wardrobe. I found it easy to reinvent my style using *100% timeless* items. I'm just wearing different timeless items than I did before.
Antonio, you have some of the best content in this area. I do appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. You research the subjects well and your presentation is on point with tasteful jokes sprinkled throughout. Now at 54, I am trying to upgrade my wardrobe with pieces of clothing that are appropriate for my age. I notice how more than 90% of guys do not put any effort into their outfits. What I've noticed about Menswear Fashion is that Films and TV Shows are a big reason why men are wanting to wear suits again. For me, a massive reason to why I strive to wear Semi-Formal, Business Casual and Smart Casual clothing is because of the many Films and TV Shows that have incredibly stylish looking men I've watched over the years.
17:00 I think another reason why you would/could/should increase your “trend spending” past 50 is because over the past 20 if you chose right you should already have a decent sized collection of timeless clothes accumulated so you don’t really need to go out and get even more. Got a 5-6 versatile suits, couple coats and jackets, well made leather shoes, shorts, pants etc already in hour wardrobe from you 30s and 40s that will still work well either as is or with a few interventions from a tailor.
Best find ever was a french cuff purple shirt brand new with tags, normally 60 bucks at a store, got it for 5 bucks a thrift store. Gems can be found if you look. Wear it all the time.
I love in Asia. Now I wear a suit and tie daily for work and it feels great. I love the wool on my suit and it almost glitters in the sunlight. The women really love wool and the fit of a suit. I spice it up sometimes with some pieces that are personal and sentimental to me but for the most part, I don't have to spend alot of time thinking about what to wear. Also I found real leather toe capped Oxfords for less than $3 at a second hand and an unlined (great for hot days) grey suit jacket for $6. I'm 32 and feel stupid for never dressing like this in the USA but none of my peers did. Graphic tees and Levi's. We were all just lazy.
if by chance you'd like a good place to look online, consider fresh clean threads. its great for building a foundational wardrobe from scratch. prices are pretty good, and the fit is great for most guys. i hear good things about true classic as well.

That is so true. I see a lot of 80’s preppy clothing people are wearing. Especially the shorts and the button down look. I rocked that all last summer.
An interesting topic to tackle. Most videos discuss a wardrobe for clothing you wear at work and out of. Most people have white collar. How about a wardrobe advice for those who don't decide what they wear at work. Military, police, firefighter, ect. Our time off in "normal" clothing is limited. Sometimes it seems strange to buy a wardrobe around button ups that you can wear at the office and in town. Especially if you deploy and can only carry a few items for off work. These times are really limited and people have to try to have minimal wardrobes with maximum effect for their style.
UA-cam really got you into my life at the right time. Im 36 and i have not changed my wardrobe in roughly 6 years. Ive been purchasing a lot of nice shirts to upgrade my look but i have been suffering from bad luck at shopping centers. Manufactures and retailers at shopping centers are definitely trying to keep me from looking my best. Good material and great brands exist but they just don’t have the locations for easy discovery. I’ve been trying some items from Banana Republic and their stuff is good value but it’s still missing some unique attributes. The polo’s from your video definitely have something unique that will look good. So I’m going to check them out.
If you want good brands with quality clothing, online is your best bet. If you're in the US, free shipping and free returns is very common. I'm not so I need to be more careful.

The thing is though- What i'm learning building my wardrobe 'timeless' style has a time and a place. Its a chic casual attractive dignified look / color palette. - which in theory you don't want to use all the time - similar to using a more playful cologne you want to wear playful fashion fun patterns to brighten moods and conversations and not be the dull serious guy at the club in neutral beiges. I'm also learning as a tall person (6'4) to balance out my height I should be wearing more playful patterns to break up my body better for a more even presentation. As a fan of blacks greys and whites- im learning it just has been making me look 8 feet tall as non pattern monochrome fabrics just extend your torso. Not to mention on top of my height I have 'resting B face' so I could use some fun in my look. Idk- I'm learning to appreciate all patterns. I think all patterns are timeless- FITS on the other hand are another story - Too loose & too tight. No no no.

I’ve been watching your videos and started to update my wardrobe because I’m in my late 30s and just needed and update. Now I don’t own or wear jeans at all, but I’ve recently got some pants in slim fit that look way better than regular fit (what I usually wore) as well as some button down shirts slim fit that are a little more expensive than I would usually buy….what a different, thank you for all you info and great videos.

Great videos. Im 56 and spent 34 years serving in the 🇨🇦 Navy. Why I mention that is that I wore a black / white uniform most of that time and conservatively dressed outside of work because I didn’t want to stand out. Now I’m dressing in bright blue, brown (not black) boots, grey casual pants and I like to buy nice clothes to wear I think cause I probably missed out on having a uniform to wear all the time. I’m building a capsule wardrobe mostly in blue,brown, grey and some green (with the brown). I’m thinking of a high quality polo and not sure which brand to go with. I hate collars that loose their shape and only have my pension to purchase these things so I prefer outlet malls. Which brand holds up it value well? Thank you, Kevin W
Whatever's trendy that you might dig find the timeless variation of it, something that isn't loud. Or do the reverse and find the timeless version of what the trend is biting off of.
I'll be honest and say that when it comes to clothing, I have no idea if something is trending or not. I simply buy what I like and if I like it, I'll continue wearing it.
It's all about the quality of the material. My best wardrobe piece is an overcoat from the 1950s made of ~700 gsm wool with a classic boxy cut. Given the condition of the coat I wouldn't have gussed the coat was older than 10 years. But a good friend of mine dated it to the 50s. There's a union tag in the pocket, very cool piece of history. They don't make fabric like that anymore. One item I was able to bring into my wardrobe just recently was a wool sweater (extremely warm) I had from my dad from the 80s. It consists of grey, teal, and purple diamonds. Very 1980s but in 2023 it goes well with jeans and white tennis shoes. Just 4 years ago I do not think this would have worked. My girlfriend was not convinced on investing in her wardrobe, she is a fan of fast fashion. That was until I bought her a camel hair peacoat. It required some tailoring so she bought a polyester one instead. The second she put the polyester one on she agreed tailoring the camel hair coat was worth it. I avoid polyester at all costs.

Regarding neckties, the real benefit is that I already own plenty. Some are silk, and some are cashmere. I can follow this trend with $0 expenditure, if I want to.

It depends on your personal style and where you are located. But one way to do it is research mid to high end men's shirt makers (such as Individualized Shirts) and find the nearest authorized retailer of said brand in your metro area. Usually it will be a well-established boutique men's wear shop with custom tailoring.

Western Wear: No snaps on shirts, no yoke on back, Crisply starched shirt AND jeans. No name on the back of your belt. There are many styles of hats, each style has a meaning. If you aren't a cowboy, don't wear it. It may say that you are a quarter horseman, but you don't know which side to stand to lead a horse. Or worse yet, you will wear the hat of a male stripper! I love your show
Antonio, our local western wear store was bought out by the Boot Barn. They did bring some lower-cost items such as denim shirts but also stopped carrying as many brands of boots.
Well that’s probably because no one was buying the other brands. Western wear has a never small area that it can work in. But have you looked online? I would think online would offer more items and save you a lot on the price at the same time
@@survivalSC I do look online. Our area is farmland and just south of us in Salinas where we have the California Rodeo every year. The old owners were locals but when the husband died the wife sold the store.
A gentleman commented below that a decent wardrobe is not cost-effective, and that he likes getting dirty outside of work. He said you get rich by not spending that kind of money. I'll share my response here, for greater visibility: I disagree, but not necessarily for the reasons you might think... I work in warehousing, and am similarly outdoorsy/handy. My daily wear is chino pants or well-fitting jeans, a button-down long sleeved shirt (with the sides taken in for a tailored fit) or a polo shirt, stylish boots (cleaned and polished daily), and a tan leather or black denim jacket if the weather calls for it. All of these are kept hanging, and sorted by type and color, on a wardrobe rack. A watch, viking chain necklace, thin braided leather bracelets, and a leather belt and brass US Army buckle round out the look and keep it from being too formal, adding some self-expression while still looking highly professional. Weekends are a different story- my dresser is full of old shirts, shorts, and jeans for getting dirty and torn up while I'm having fun fishing, camping, working with metal and wood, etc., and there are aprons and coveralls to take most of that damage. Steel toed boots, too. The difference is, at work I'm immediately perceived as a competent professional, simply because I am not lazy about my appearance. You never know who you'll meet or what they can do for your career, and first impressions are incredibly important. I met my regional VP last week during a surprise visit, during which we were personally introduced, and I received an award from him for working through an ice storm that very nearly closed us down for a week last month. I'm glad I wasn't wearing stained work jeans or an old hoodie at the time of our meeting. 😉 My coworkers, superiors, and subordinates see me working my butt off in that kind of clothing, and it inspires them to follow suit and step up both their dress and their work ethic, in order to keep pace with me and gain my favor and approval. I have a mohawk-evocative hair cut and a full, foot-long beard, so dressing sharp juxtaposes well and justifies the former by embedding it within a more refined context, while maintaining an approachable, comfortable vibe. It's psychology, too. I feel proud and confident, so I perform like a competent professional. I appear as a competent professional, so I get attention, recognition, and opportunities I would otherwise never receive. I bought most of it secondhand or at discount stores, but my pay is up nearly 17K year-over-year since last year when I started dressing more sharply. Nothing else changed about how I work, I'm just being recognized more now because I'm more visible than before. Wearing my potential on my sleeve, so to speak. Find your niche, brother, and make it work for you.
Wierdly, at 59, classic men’s wear IS my reinvention of myself. Sure, i did wear suits and ties in the 80’s and 90’s but then it kinda dropped off. Now i want a bit of style back. I like highland wear ( kilts with all the stuff that goes with it, tweeds, sweaters etc ). And i like…well, the stuff you talk about ( both clothes and fragrances ). I checked out a charcoal suit and a tweed sports jacket just a few hours ago. They both cost a bit but are good quality. I’m still thinking about it. I want a suit like that and Harris tweed is Harris tweed. Hmmm * fingers itching *
Timeless style I have always felt is saving us from the embarrassment of photographs, I personally wear tapered black jeans and singlets, I would prefer my singlets to be white but I still have to loose a couple of pounds to feel comfortable, I felt really good in this style
Anything on the runway is almost always purely for show and rarely available for sale. Fashion week is about pushing the artistry and the brand, not what you see because you can’t (and shouldn’t) buy it. Regular people don’t wear that kind of stuff, especially for business. Just like any awards show entrance, it’s custom made for those richer and more famous than you and me. But they rarely keep it, it’s on loan most times, to push the label. Trends come and go, classic lasts forever. I bought a grey and a tan set of Ben Hogan tech golf pants last summer because I needed some long pants. Got them from WalMart for $25 each. Timeless, washable, durable and above all else..lightweight and comfortable. Fit perfectly right off the rack, no tailoring required. Classic! I was in a club once full of guys sporting all this crazy “stylish” $#/+. I had a black gabardine jacket with a unique design (Chemist jacket) , black jeans, white mandarin collared shirt and black leather oxfords. Guess who got all the attention?
I never did pursue trends. One, because they are temporary by nature. Two, I never had the money to buy clothes that would look silly in just a few weeks.
Can you do a video for new york clothes but hip/hop rap timeless style? For younger crowd. The vintage casual streetwear is timeless its still being worn nowadays.

You got it on point! I’ve been looking for more purples to add to my wardrobe, a deep purple which looks great and not tacky. I’ve noticed this year that department stores are brining in bright greens, purple, pinks ect. in double breasted, what do you think of brighter Color’s?
Your skin tone will dictate which purples look good on you and I forget the color theory behind it. It's easy to see if you go to a Sephora and them rub different shades on make up on your arm. If you're pale then the matte shades will look best but if you're tan then the glossier shades will look best. Edit: I just saw Antonio link a video to this exact subject and I'm about to watch it too because I need to brush up on the technicalities. Color harmony is really fun. When in doubt look at flowers for ideas. I wear two shares of purple inspired by the violet flower. Both shades are gloss.
Pastels are great if you have lots of neutral base pieces. Nothing like a pop of color to make your outfit sing. But don't be afraid of a bold shoe choice if your outfit is more neutral.
Thrift stores can be a great way to find that piece that adds to your style without breaking the bank if it doesn’t work out for you. If it doesn’t, donate it again and try something else.
As a woman, I suggest that men wear collared shirts, like regular, woven cotton shirts or polos, as much as possible. T-shirts, etc., without collars can look too casual and just don’t do anything for a guy. Every man looks great in a white, collared shirt, woven or knit. Next, I would go for a light blue one, it also looks great on everyone and is very classic.
It’s not darker complexions that look best in purple, it’s pale complexions with cool skin tone, if your veins show as bright blue or purple you will look better in purple than anyone else
My personal style has always been vintage. For dressing up, I prefer fitted 3 piece suits patterned after early 20th Century fashion w/ slight modern modifications. For casual, I prefer the classic button down shirts like classic Latino guayaberas and rockabilly / bowling shirts w/ cuffed jeans or kakis. Hats are either golfers hats or short brimmed fedoras. Shoes are oxfords Wing Tips or Chuck Taylors. So styles from the 20s to the mid-60s. I NEVER EVER wore or wear ANYTHING advertising the brand or a brand either. I pay them for the gear, they don't pay me. So I refuse to be a walking billboard, for anyone! But that's me.
This is exactly why dating profiles for men look like hot garbage because their clothing screams "I'm still 24 years old!" even though they're in their 30's and beyond. Women notice when dudes can't seem to evolve, fashion-wise, past their college campus days. I'm guilty of it, too. It's amazing what happens when you stop wearing huge graphic t-shirts, goofy looking jeans with old sneakers, baseball caps worn backwards, and dirty hoodies.
A good style that has worked for me is a navy bi-swing jacket from Polo, with a white polo shirt and some dark indigo jeans. Doesn't scream 20s nor 40s.
As a Canadian, I cannot argue that triple denim looks lousy. If you are going to double up, darker on bottom, lighter on top is the rule and your shirt or sweater better not be blue!

100% Hugo Boss performance fit clothes. Get them tailored tight to your body, trust me. There is no better 4-way fabric in the market for men. Every other brand does either 2-way stretch or uses 1/2 the % of spandex

You research the subjects well and your presentation is on point with tasteful jokes sprinkled throughout. Now at 54, I am trying to upgrade my wardrobe with pieces of clothing that are appropriate for my age. I notice how more than 90% of guys do not put any effort into their outfits. Everyone looks like they just came from playing basketball, the gym or the park. I want to stand out from that crowd.

What I've noticed about Menswear Fashion is that Films and TV Shows are a big reason why men are wanting to wear suits again.
For me, a massive reason to why I strive to wear Semi-Formal, Business Casual and Smart Casual clothing is because of the many Films and TV Shows that have incredibly stylish looking men I've watched over the years.
17:00 I think another reason why you would/could/should increase your “trend spending” past 50 is because over the past 20 if you chose right you should already have a decent sized collection of timeless clothes accumulated so you don’t really need to go out and get even more. Got a 5-6 versatile suits, couple coats and jackets, well made leather shoes, shorts, pants etc already in hour wardrobe from you 30s and 40s that will still work well either as is or with a few interventions from a tailor.
Best find ever was a french cuff purple shirt brand new with tags, normally 60 bucks at a store, got it for 5 bucks a thrift store. Gems can be found if you look. Wear it all the time.
I love in Asia. Now I wear a suit and tie daily for work and it feels great. I love the wool on my suit and it almost glitters in the sunlight. The women really love wool and the fit of a suit. I spice it up sometimes with some pieces that are personal and sentimental to me but for the most part, I don't have to spend alot of time thinking about what to wear. Also I found real leather toe capped Oxfords for less than $3 at a second hand and an unlined (great for hot days) grey suit jacket for $6. I'm 32 and feel stupid for never dressing like this in the USA but none of my peers did. Graphic tees and Levi's. We were all just lazy.
Please consider making a video on places to shop to get these quality cloths. Not all of us live in LA, Chicago or Manhattan. I'm in Pittsburgh.

That is so true. I see a lot of 80’s preppy clothing people are wearing. Especially the shorts and the button down look. I rocked that all last summer.
An interesting topic to tackle. Most videos discuss a wardrobe for clothing you wear at work and out of. Most people have white collar. How about a wardrobe advice for those who don't decide what they wear at work. Military, police, firefighter, ect.
Our time off in "normal" clothing is limited. Sometimes it seems strange to buy a wardrobe around button ups that you can wear at the office and in town.
Especially if you deploy and can only carry a few items for off work.
These times are really limited and people have to try to have minimal wardrobes with maximum effect for their style.
what I look for when I get clothes:

- is it comfortable?
- are there pockets?
- how much defense does it have?

UA-cam really got you into my life at the right time. Im 36 and i have not changed my wardrobe in roughly 6 years. Ive been purchasing a lot of nice shirts to upgrade my look but i have been suffering from bad luck at shopping centers. Manufactures and retailers at shopping centers are definitely trying to keep me from looking my best. Good material and great brands exist but they just don’t have the locations for easy discovery. I’ve been trying some items from Banana Republic and their stuff is good value but it’s still missing some unique attributes. The polo’s from your video definitely have something unique that will look good. So I’m going to check them out.
If you want good brands with quality clothing, online is your best bet. If you're in the US, free shipping and free returns is very common. I'm not so I need to be more careful.

The thing is though- What i'm learning building my wardrobe 'timeless' style has a time and a place. Its a chic casual attractive dignified look / color palette. - which in theory you don't want to use all the time - similar to using a more playful cologne you want to wear playful fashion fun patterns to brighten moods and conversations and not be the dull serious guy at the club in neutral beiges. I'm also learning as a tall person (6'4) to balance out my height I should be wearing more playful patterns to break up my body better for a more even presentation. As a fan of blacks greys and whites- im learning it just has been making me look 8 feet tall as non pattern monochrome fabrics just extend your torso. Not to mention on top of my height I have 'resting B face' so I could use some fun in my look. Idk- I'm learning to appreciate all patterns. I think all patterns are timeless- FITS on the other hand are another story - Too loose & too tight. No no no.
I have suits and blazers from 25 and 30 years ago. They're all classic styles and I still get compliments whenever I wear them.

I’ve been watching your videos and started to update my wardrobe because I’m in my late 30s and just needed and update. Now I don’t own or wear jeans at all, but I’ve recently got some pants in slim fit that look way better than regular fit (what I usually wore) as well as some button down shirts slim fit that are a little more expensive than I would usually buy….what a different, thank you for all you info and great videos.

Great videos. Im 56 and spent 34 years serving in the 🇨🇦 Navy. Why I mention that is that I wore a black / white uniform most of that time and conservatively dressed outside of work because I didn’t want to stand out. Now I’m dressing in bright blue, brown (not black) boots, grey casual pants and I like to buy nice clothes to wear I think cause I probably missed out on having a uniform to wear all the time. I’m building a capsule wardrobe mostly in blue,brown, grey and some green (with the brown). I’m thinking of a high quality polo and not sure which brand to go with. I hate collars that loose their shape and only have my pension to purchase these things so I prefer outlet malls. Which brand holds up it value well?

Whatever's trendy that you might dig find the timeless variation of it, something that isn't loud. Or do the reverse and find the timeless version of what the trend is biting off of.
I'll be honest and say that when it comes to clothing, I have no idea if something is trending or not. I simply buy what I like and if I like it, I'll continue wearing it.
It's all about the quality of the material. My best wardrobe piece is an overcoat from the 1950s made of ~700 gsm wool with a classic boxy cut. Given the condition of the coat I wouldn't have gussed the coat was older than 10 years. But a good friend of mine dated it to the 50s. There's a union tag in the pocket, very cool piece of history. They don't make fabric like that anymore.
One item I was able to bring into my wardrobe just recently was a wool sweater (extremely warm) I had from my dad from the 80s. It consists of grey, teal, and purple diamonds. Very 1980s but in 2023 it goes well with jeans and white tennis shoes. Just 4 years ago I do not think this would have worked.
My girlfriend was not convinced on investing in her wardrobe, she is a fan of fast fashion. That was until I bought her a camel hair peacoat. It required some tailoring so she bought a polyester one instead. The second she put the polyester one on she agreed tailoring the camel hair coat was worth it.
I avoid polyester at all costs.

It depends on your personal style and where you are located. But one way to do it is research mid to high end men's shirt makers (such as Individualized Shirts) and find the nearest authorized retailer of said brand in your metro area. Usually it will be a well-established boutique men's wear shop with custom tailoring.

Western Wear: No snaps on shirts, no yoke on back, Crisply starched shirt AND jeans. No name on the back of your belt. There are many styles of hats, each style has a meaning. If you aren't a cowboy, don't wear it. It may say that you are a quarter horseman, but you don't know which side to stand to lead a horse. Or worse yet, you will wear the hat of a male stripper!

Antonio, our local western wear store was bought out by the Boot Barn. They did bring some lower-cost items such as denim shirts but also stopped carrying as many brands of boots.
Well that’s probably because no one was buying the other brands. Western wear has a never small area that it can work in. But have you looked online? I would think online would offer more items and save you a lot on the price at the same time

I disagree, but not necessarily for the reasons you might think...
I work in warehousing, and am similarly outdoorsy/handy. My daily wear is chino pants or well-fitting jeans, a button-down long sleeved shirt (with the sides taken in for a tailored fit) or a polo shirt, stylish boots (cleaned and polished daily), and a tan leather or black denim jacket if the weather calls for it. All of these are kept hanging, and sorted by type and color, on a wardrobe rack. A watch, viking chain necklace, thin braided leather bracelets, and a leather belt and brass US Army buckle round out the look and keep it from being too formal, adding some self-expression while still looking highly professional.
Weekends are a different story- my dresser is full of old shirts, shorts, and jeans for getting dirty and torn up while I'm having fun fishing, camping, working with metal and wood, etc., and there are aprons and coveralls to take most of that damage. Steel toed boots, too.
The difference is, at work I'm immediately perceived as a competent professional, simply because I am not lazy about my appearance. You never know who you'll meet or what they can do for your career, and first impressions are incredibly important. I met my regional VP last week during a surprise visit, during which we were personally introduced, and I received an award from him for working through an ice storm that very nearly closed us down for a week last month. I'm glad I wasn't wearing stained work jeans or an old hoodie at the time of our meeting. 😉
My coworkers, superiors, and subordinates see me working my butt off in that kind of clothing, and it inspires them to follow suit and step up both their dress and their work ethic, in order to keep pace with me and gain my favor and approval.
I have a mohawk-evocative hair cut and a full, foot-long beard, so dressing sharp juxtaposes well and justifies the former by embedding it within a more refined context, while maintaining an approachable, comfortable vibe.
It's psychology, too. I feel proud and confident, so I perform like a competent professional. I appear as a competent professional, so I get attention, recognition, and opportunities I would otherwise never receive. I bought most of it secondhand or at discount stores, but my pay is up nearly 17K year-over-year since last year when I started dressing more sharply. Nothing else changed about how I work, I'm just being recognized more now because I'm more visible than before. Wearing my potential on my sleeve, so to speak.

Wierdly, at 59, classic men’s wear IS my reinvention of myself.
Sure, i did wear suits and ties in the 80’s and 90’s but then it kinda dropped off.
Now i want a bit of style back.
I like highland wear ( kilts with all the stuff that goes with it, tweeds, sweaters etc ).
And i like…well, the stuff you talk about ( both clothes and fragrances ).
I checked out a charcoal suit and a tweed sports jacket just a few hours ago.
They both cost a bit but are good quality.
I’m still thinking about it.

Timeless style I have always felt is saving us from the embarrassment of photographs, I personally wear tapered black jeans and singlets, I would prefer my singlets to be white but I still have to loose a couple of pounds to feel comfortable, I felt really good in this style

Fashion week is about pushing the artistry and the brand, not what you see because you can’t (and shouldn’t) buy it.
Regular people don’t wear that kind of stuff, especially for business.
Just like any awards show entrance, it’s custom made for those richer and more famous than you and me.
But they rarely keep it, it’s on loan most times, to push the label.

Your skin tone will dictate which purples look good on you and I forget the color theory behind it. It's easy to see if you go to a Sephora and them rub different shades on make up on your arm. If you're pale then the matte shades will look best but if you're tan then the glossier shades will look best.
Edit: I just saw Antonio link a video to this exact subject and I'm about to watch it too because I need to brush up on the technicalities. Color harmony is really fun. When in doubt look at flowers for ideas. I wear two shares of purple inspired by the violet flower. Both shades are gloss.
Pastels are great if you have lots of neutral base pieces. Nothing like a pop of color to make your outfit sing. But don't be afraid of a bold shoe choice if your outfit is more neutral.

As a woman, I suggest that men wear collared shirts, like regular, woven cotton shirts or polos, as much as possible. T-shirts, etc., without collars can look too casual and just don’t do anything for a guy. Every man looks great in a white, collared shirt, woven or knit. Next, I would go for a light blue one, it also looks great on everyone and is very classic.

It’s not darker complexions that look best in purple, it’s pale complexions with cool skin tone, if your veins show as bright blue or purple you will look better in purple than anyone else

My personal style has always been vintage. For dressing up, I prefer fitted 3 piece suits patterned after early 20th Century fashion w/ slight modern modifications. For casual, I prefer the classic button down shirts like classic Latino guayaberas and rockabilly / bowling shirts w/ cuffed jeans or kakis. Hats are either golfers hats or short brimmed fedoras. Shoes are oxfords Wing Tips or Chuck Taylors.
So styles from the 20s to the mid-60s.
I NEVER EVER wore or wear ANYTHING advertising the brand or a brand either. I pay them for the gear, they don't pay me. So I refuse to be a walking billboard, for anyone!

This is exactly why dating profiles for men look like hot garbage because their clothing screams "I'm still 24 years old!" even though they're in their 30's and beyond. Women notice when dudes can't seem to evolve, fashion-wise, past their college campus days. I'm guilty of it, too. It's amazing what happens when you stop wearing huge graphic t-shirts, goofy looking jeans with old sneakers, baseball caps worn backwards, and dirty hoodies.
A good style that has worked for me is a navy bi-swing jacket from Polo, with a white polo shirt and some dark indigo jeans. Doesn't scream 20s nor 40s.

Trendy is often ugly, so I'd still avoid them at 50-70s. A slightly wider vintage tie will always look better than a too thin was trendy tie.
Buy what suits your personality and body type, invest in quality and buy clothes you know you love and will wear over and over again, and your money will be well-spent, and you'll be looking good today, and decades from now.
