Dallas Brandon Check your red yellow and black wire with a multimeter to make sure the deck is getting power. How did you make your connections at your harness?
Dallas Brandon If the old deck still turns on fine after you've plugged it in, check all the connections you made with the harness. You might have a bad crimp connection (I'm assuming you did the install with butt connectors).
Very good video helps out a lot but I'm having trouble finding the stock wiring harness. Where did you get that special harness that goes from up there to down there?

AnthonyJ350 Sure, but you said to check to make sure it works after you said to finalize the installation. It's obvious you knew exactly what you were doing, simply by observing the speed at which you assembled the harness piece. I was just pointing out that for educational purposes, it would be optimal to tell a first-timer that they should turn the unit on before screwing it in and reassembling the trim in case they did something incorrectly prior to the finalization of the install. If someone hadn't thought to do that otherwise, it could save a lot of frustration and potentially even a new car modder, as I would imagine this is a pretty common first "mod" for some people.
Steven Moore If your vehicle is exactly the same as the one shown in the video, you'll need to order the "amp bypass" version. Which is a longer version of the 70-1858. Why not just purchase it from your local install shop?
Very! Talk about memory lane! The taillights on it were completely flush with the body and almost like a mirror. Then the stripe down the side is true 24k gold. @@cjkimball139 It's so cool to hear stories like that. The demand for craftsmanship isn't the same. People people are content building a vehicle with slapped on widebody flares and vinyl stickers.
Being a younger guy all of my friends have been caught up in the “wide body, bags, n wrap” some kits have their flair but nothing like true CUSTOM craftsmanship
@@cjkimball139 They don't like it because it's difficult to achieve and requires a lot of experience and investment in tools. I noticed that's one of the reasons some of my videos aren't as popular as similar topics that do it with less quality.
On these trucks the AM/FM control unit stops operating after you unplug the main harness. So I put the pocket in instead of having buttons that do nothing. You could leave the radio controls there too if you want, they just won't be operational.
You spent less than a minute showing how to remove the old radio components, which is 90% of what makes this vehicle more challenging than most, then 10 minutes showing how to strip and solder wires, which I don't need to see at all. At most show soldering one or two wires. The stuff behind the dash is what we need to see here.
why so many people like single din. for me it looks 90s or 80s. i like more modern stereos double din is best bluetooth car play android and smart connections like tire tpms backup camera
Some people want something more Era correct. Or the dash doesn't accommodate a Double DIN and they don't want a floating screen. Could also be a budget thing. Lots of reasons.
Yup, we're showing basics of connections. The Metra mounting kit has the vehicle specific disassembly instructions. It's amazing how much people complain after receiving free info. You can pay me $50/hr and I'll video call you and guide you step by step if you'd like.
At 5:34 you twist wires with your bare fingers. What does that do to clean bare copper people? = corrosion. At 7:11, those are shit strippers people. Can't wait till THE SOLDERING BEGINS LOL. No shot of the actual solder joint. I can tell though all Anthony is doing is melting solder over cold copper wire. See how the large smoke plume instantly emerges? That tells me Anthony holds the iron on TOP of the joint. She forgot back in the third grade that heat RISES. Iron needs to be below the joint. Anthony Anthony...........
Not really sure how you can tell since I didn't zoom in while soldering but ok. This is how I solder. You do know I work in a shop and have to provide a lifetime warrenty on work. what do you mean by custom? Like a custom sized radio or I would have to modify the bezel area to accommodate the size of the head unit.
How do you remove the support braket i dont know how to access the bottom two 7mils at the bottom please responde asap
Why didn't you use flux with your solder I've read that was the correct way to do it?
Some solders will have a flux core. That might be what he is using?
There's already flux in our solder.
Very obsessed with that squre hole😁😂😂
Who it's obsessed with holes? Doesn't matter the shape.
Where did you get your wiring from
I run a shop and we get it from our distributors. You local install shop will be able to sell these items to you.
What kind of analog dash gauge do you have?
+ThaPrime Mini Not my truck so I don't remember the details of it, sorry.
how do you get the head unit to secure to installation deck
Just installed it into the sleeve that slides into the mounting kit.
Heml yeah, a tach was my first thought I've had the 92 94 and now just got a 93 k1500 blazer...some have tachs...wome dont my Silverado sport 94 did and it's a real crapshoot...this 93 Silverado didnt...I ront wanna over rev and monitor the engine and tank you for using lead solder...oh and I've been inhaling lead solder fumes for years it wont hurt you, I build printed circuit boards...and I'm just fine lol
Thanks for the comment!
Thanks!
You should probably check that it works before putting on all the trim...
TheGreggy711 Where's your sense of adventure? It is very possible I checked it before I even filmed that scene.
If someone hadn't thought to do that otherwise, it could save a lot of frustration and potentially even a new car modder, as I would imagine this is a pretty common first "mod" for some people.
which harness did you buy from the site?
+Steven Moore It's in the description.
+AnthonyJ350 theres multiple different harnesses. i was meaning like which specific one, i didnt wanna buy the wrong one and then be screwed.
Steven Moore If your vehicle is exactly the same as the one shown in the video, you'll need to order the "amp bypass" version. Which is a longer version of the 70-1858. Why not just purchase it from your local install shop?
+AnthonyJ350 Theres not any near by and my trucks not in the spot to drive atm haha i was just wanting to buy the correct one i can finish my system.
Steven Moore You want Metra's 70-1855 for the harness.
you dont have to drop the column to get the bezel out
People do things different ways.
Where did you ground it
Factory ground in the harness.
@@AnthonyJ350 thank you. I bought a 88 and the radio went out I found a extra ground running to the radio
@@niklasacuna4193 you can use the ground if the connections are good and it's secured well the chassis
That painting of the orange two toned impala... I know the guy that built that.
That's awesome!
Very! Talk about memory lane! The taillights on it were completely flush with the body and almost like a mirror. Then the stripe down the side is true 24k gold. STILL one of the most amazing vehicles I ever had the seen, and the fact I saw it BEFORE the interior was complete being put together in his garage is astonishing. Would probably 💩 myself if I saw that beaut again😍
I just used long extensions for my wrench.
I see them but i dont know how to reach them is what i was trying to say
Why not keep the stock AM/FM radio and just change out the tape deck for the CD headunit?
On these trucks the AM/FM control unit stops operating after you unplug the main harness. So I put the pocket in instead of having buttons that do nothing. You could leave the radio controls there too if you want, they just won't be operational.
If I had one of these, I'll keep that stock radio for the stock OEM look.
hello Anthony speak spanish?.
Sorry no, not really.
You spent less than a minute showing how to remove the old radio components, which is 90% of what makes this vehicle more challenging than most, then 10 minutes showing how to strip and solder wires, which I don't need to see at all. At most show soldering one or two wires. The stuff behind the dash is what we need to see here.
Thanks for the feedback!
unplug battery next time dude, rookie mistake
Demarcus Williams We rarely disconnect the battery when removing head units. We just make sure to not cycle the ignition if anything is unplugged.
Was thinking the same thing
@@stephenschowalter4464 How do you test and verify wires with a multi-meter or appropriate test tool if the battery is unplugged?
why so many people like single din. for me it looks 90s or 80s. i like more modern stereos double din is best bluetooth car play android and smart connections like tire tpms backup camera
Some people want something more Era correct. Or the dash doesn't accommodate a Double DIN and they don't want a floating screen. Could also be a budget thing. Lots of reasons.
Gotta love how to videos without the how to portion.
….okay now that the radio is pulled…..
Yup, we're showing basics of connections. The Metra mounting kit has the vehicle specific disassembly instructions.
It's amazing how much people complain after receiving free info.
You can pay me $50/hr and I'll video call you and guide you step by step if you'd like.
no big deal bro. other videos out there. probably why your channel is not at the same level as others...@@AnthonyJ350
Oh ok ket me try again then
Can you say OCD?
That's why people want us to do work on their vehicles :)
If this method was so poor I'd have car come back at the 3 year mark. How many deck installs do you do a week again?

jim davidson When you do wiring do you wear gloves at all times?
Straight waste of time
