So I see some thumbs down and comments on the video about the pike being alive when I started to clean it. As soon as I caught this pike I brought it over to the cleaning board. I hit it on the head with my ice scoop and thought it was dead, Then about 15 seconds in I noticed it was still breathing. Then I hit it again to make absolutely sure it was in fact dead this time as you see it's now covered in snow. I didn't notice it was breathing sorry. Normally I make sure they are absolutely dead before cleaning them or you would have seen me keep cleaning the fish right? I appreciate everyone views and support! To many people are to quick to judge before watching and thinking about the fact I did make sure it was dead before continuing. Any further negative comments will be deleted.

330 MaNiaC I’ve heard fish don’t have big enough brain to receptors to feel pain.. idk if that’s true or not so I try till kill them before I cut them up so I bleed them and let em die or hit em really hard on the head.. punching works lol but I’m sure the fish was knocked out and if not you’re good buddy, I’ve seen all sorts of people do it on purpose so at least you try and that’s good enough for me! Congrats on the pike! Keep on fishing!

The one thing that amazes me about you is that you are always out there doing you stuff and reaching into ice cold water without any gloves. If I did that, my fingers would turn black and fall off in 10 minutes, but you do it all day. Of course...I'm a Florida Boy from the panhandle. South Florida folks can't take under 60°, but it gets down to the mid 20°s several times a year, and I wont touch the water until late spring here.
Bare hands in ice water...my hat goes off to you.

Pike is also incredible scales & skin on (on the half shell), & faced down on a bbq grill with read wood for fuel. Baste with lemon juice, black pepper & butter mixture, then bbq sauce if you like & I do,also cocktail sauce or ketchup works & some love tarter sauce. Any fish cooks & eats well this way, especially huge carp filets. Just leave the skin & scales on the plate, cooked covered (roasted) this way,the meat lifts right off the skin & scales perfectly with your fork while you eat.

WTF are you talking about??? Northern Pike has NEVER been called "poor man's lobster". Don't get me wrong I love eating northern(most people don't because of how bony they are), but Pike isn't even close to the same flavor. Its has the same taste profile as yellow perch and walleye. BURBOT, on the other hand... also known in the north as "Ling" or "Ling Cod" are commonly called "poor man's lobster". They have a very sweet taste and fluffy texture. Great video brother, but coming from a Montanan this is not "poor man's lobster" that's boiled pike w/ butter. ..

You can cook poor mans lobster out of any fish really, white flake works better & northern pike & pickerel work best. Can even use carp. I'm an ice off northern pike fisher. Any thing with gold on it works, spinners, spoons & flat fish & repelas ect, gold is your best open water northern pike color for lures. Talking my game now!
