Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 січ 2023
- In the first episode of my Black Hills of South Dakota miniseries, we're kayak fishing the beautiful Pactola Reservoir in search of big northern pike, tasty rainbow trout and largemouth bass. The wind makes things difficult, but we grind through a tough bite to take home dinner. Then, back in our RVs, we're showing you how to filet and cook up the ultimate fish tacos using northern pike.
COMMENT BELOW and tell me where I should go next and what I should fish for! And ask me any questions you guys have!

Warren is a man of class driving the Vibe Shearwater 125. I may be biased as I own one.
Nice Taco !!!
We have pike in Northern China too, and one of the tradition way is to make Pike dumping. It's super easy and delicious. Basically after quick filet fish, we use spoon to scrape the meat from the filet to avoid bones, and minced with ground pork( at least 70% fat), and mix with salt, white pepper, the juice of ginger and scallions, water and a little bit oil. So the stuff inside the dumping is ready, you can put these in all kinds of food like dumping, Bun, or Pie!!! Trust me, it is really good, I can rank it in top three delicious freshwater fish!
Great video! Thanks for the shout out!
The small eaters like those we call snot rockets are great fun great eating
I LOVE pike, I've been eating it my whole life. Funny story. My mother-in-law will only eat walleye, end of story ( in her mind) however; at my brother in laws wedding the reception was a fantastic fish fry. Both served perfectly cleaned cooked and served on huge platters. My mother-in-law was crushing it (the woman can eat with the best of em'). I noticed the fish she was selecting from the platters. YEP, she was turning her nose up at the walleye and just pounding the pike! I pointed it out to her that she obviously prefers pike to her beloved walleye! We still joke about it 34 years later. to this day she only eats pike!
Northern Pike is right up there with walleye for me. Delicious fish. Slimy and stinky on the outside but delicious on the inside!
Thanks for the great video. And thanks for visiting.
Hammered and I loved it. Very fun trip TY for taking us along
My first time Kayaking and this Kayak held strong. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx4k5UrhC3v_Y4hIEaXLGvHcN5a5aBmZNB The water got pretty rough as a speed boat zipped by me, and the Kayak withstood it (I expected to be capsized). The Ores are very easy to put together, the pump worked beautifully. the seats are a bit hard to sit in after a while (I recommend sitting on the floor). after reading the reviews I was very scared it'd get a hole in it, the material is very strong and durable. The Air valve may need a small Phillips head screwdriver to adjust, other than that, it's well worth the money!(update)I've gone Kayaking in 3 Lakes and 2 rivers totaling about 40 miles. the kayak had two holes and they patched easily and no other problems can't wait for kayaking season this year!
What a great video, especially the last part. Good food, with good people...priceless........Thank you for the entertainment, and I wish you all the best😀
Glad to see you enjoy some Northern's, totally underrated as table fare, both abundant and prolific, once filleted I'd put them up there with crappie, perch, or Walleye.
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure with me. I’m an avid fisherman from Chicago. I don’t know if you’re even gonna read this but the Black Hills video was freaking awesome. The way you met those new people exploring our great country. Thank you. I’ve been watching your videos for quite some time now and was really glad to see that she took a break from Panama to go back to theUnited States and pursue fishing across America. Thank you again for sharing your adventure
Hey man keep your comments to yourself
Love fishing the Black Hills! Thanks for sharing...
Great video! It was nice having you over! Y’all are welcome any time. Looking forward to next weeks episode.
I used to guide in Alaska. Pike day was such a welcome break from eating salmon. Nothing beats fried pike in a cast iron over an open fire.
I fish Pactola a lot and love kayak fishing that same area! It is beautiful. Such a fun video to watch for me.
Pike, EXCELLENT EATING FISH !!! It doesn't even matter which way you cook it ! There are video's on You Tube on how to clean a Northern Pike ! All my life, I keep hearing that pickling Pike is the way to go. But like Robert, I like my fish breaded and pan fried !
I'm so happy you finally got to try pike. I mix it in with walleye for family fish fries and no one can tell the difference. 👍
Boundary waters has phenomenal fishing opportunities from kayaks/canoes. Love fishing there and TONS of pike.
Hey Jason. This is Warren from the video. Josh (also in the video) and I go to the Boundary Waters every year. This is our 2023 trip. m.ua-cam.com/video/bSzon0g6L-U/v-deo.html&pp=ygUWRW5zaWduIGJvdW5kYXJ5IHdhdGVycw%3D%3D
What a great way to start a series, excellent company great food and good fishing 👍
Thanks for sharing this video. When I lived in Michigan we used really big red and white daredevil spoons. Or baby duck look a like topwater lures stay safe and I will be waiting for your next video
Nice!
I’ve fished with Josh, haven’t hooked up with Warren yet.
Pactola is definitely beautiful, can’t wait to get the Yak back out there!
Let’s do it this summer!!
Now that was a bagger!!! Can’t wait for the next one
That FRY looked Awesome!🍺
Hey Robert! Great video. The way your guest fillet the pike is exactly how one version of pike filleting is done. The other method is the 5 fillet method , great job.
Thank you!! We don’t keep a lot and our skills aren’t polished. But we can usually do a pretty good bone free job.
Wow, that is a great looking place! Thanks for the great video.
Nice to see you so close to my home. Enjoyed your Nebraska and South Dakota adventures. Welcome to the home of wind and no cell service. Funny to see the green and warm weather since we are now in hard water season with winter storm advisory.
Wow, that is a great looking place! Nice job.
Beautiful lake. Good video as always, keep up the good work.
Thank you! This was a great video! I absolutely love your catch and cook episodes. ♥️
When are you planning your trip to AK Rob!!?? Make it soon! Let's go ice fishing!! Lol
Caught my first pike in MN last year 37 inches for my first one. Broke off a bunch of lures before putting on wire leader
My home state. My friend and I went fishing there this last fall. He caught his pb rainbow trout and brown trout, and I caught my first kokanee salmon.
Someday I'll go north and catch some pike. I really want a big musky
Being someone that fishes for pike all the time was amazing to watch this video man! Never tried pike as well, but looks really good!
Pikes my favorite fish to catch and eat
I’m looking forward to busting out my kayak once things warm up here. 3 more months at least.
Great video 🤙🏾
You inspired me to start my UA-cam channel (Catch and Cook videos)
Thank you 🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
That place is gorgeous. Great vid. Hope you make it out here to the Eastcoast DC area.
I have a new Truck, Camper, 1720 ActionCraft Flyfisher Boat ready to take on a trip to Fl. Going back again to the Everglades and many other places. Hope to meet up sometime. Yes, I use steel leader for big Pike.
Pike are definitely underrated as table fare. anything between 24 and 30 inches is a good keeper. great texture and flavor. i learned a slightly different filleting technique at Watsons Kaby Lodge on Lake Kabinakagami north of Wawa Ontario. You take a backstrap from behind the head to the dorsal fin, then take boneless fillets from the dorsal fin to tail, then deal with the Y bones on fillets from head to dorsal fins.
Can what to the nexts video.
Greeting from Belgium and my Georges.
only robert would say dakota is paradise while fishing los buzos 😂😂 you funny
Really cool and well done video! Love the area around the black hills. I went through there on a cross country road trip a few summers ago for the cliff jumping. Wish I would have stuck around to fish the area a little. Just found this series and subscribed instantly. Going to get myself caught up and then stick with you for the rest of the adventure. Safe and happy travels!
Just the intro had me stunned. Beautiful, fr. Been up and down the East coast all my life but never made it across the Mississippi, got me itchin for real
Oh man. Weird seeing my home on UA-cam 😂 when did you film this? Now come back for the ice fishing.
Hey man I've been going through alot and your stuff on UA-cam helps me through it I'm going homeless at the end of the week wish me luck 🙏
Stay good man. You got this.
Whoa...did Warren say pike tastes better than walleye? Easy there my friend. Lol
Haha. It’s not a hill I will die on. But side by side you’d be hard to tell a difference. Both are great. Warren from BHKA.
Beer Battered fried Northern Pike is also good!
Battered is always better than breaded..for me
Awesome video
Good stuff man 🤘🏼.
VERY Clever play on the name- this looks extremely well produced!
May I suggest making Pike "chowpeno" a cross between chowder and chapeno. Spicy, tomatoey, creamy! and Poor man's lobster. My two favorite ways to cook and eat Pike. Closely followed bu pickeled pike!
Pike loves grassy bottoms. I go to Lake Champlain close to the Canadian border, and we got about 30+ pike daily I love it
Great video. Next time you try some pike try breading it with pancake batter and dip in in cocktail sauce I have tried it many different ways and that's by far my favorite way to eat pike.
You should come to Lake Ontario in NY this summer for king salmon and lakers
Awesome
I caught some in Cantoment just outside Pensacola also pike and southern muskys in South Alabama and man they are very fine table fair.
Firedisk..get those in mexico 🇲🇽
ppl still sleep on pike to this day. which hell, im all for. more for me.
Pike is delicious if you know how to cook
"There's no such thing as a trash fish, just trash cooks"
When you are going to be in AZ for the fishing okay and apache lake, Roosevelt lake, green valley lake , lake Mead and Colorado river and lake Powell okay
Can we see and update picture of the map and see what you've covered do far. You already passed my state. KS!
Hey if you could pick up a Trout that would be nice. Any time you can pull into a location and catch a few of the target species, its a good day. Not easy peasy but certainly a good day. Nice work. Ah, and better a little wind than NoSeeUms
Let's do a kayak Alligator Gar camping trip this summer. I have the perfect spot 7fters every trip. So far that is.
Here in UK its all about catch and release, the perfect care is afforded to pike and this is shown in my videos. Feels so alien watching pike get killed for food, but i recognise life and fishing is different across the world
Great video, but now i need to hear the story of how you got banned from Canada for life 😅
So much work for so little meat…love the vids
2:17 you guys are identical twins.
I fished across the united states in from 1980 to 1982. Lived out of my Plymouth Horizon. I'm sorry I didn't keep all the 3 day fishing licenses from that time
What kind of bait caster are you using? That thing slings it!
Five years ago we were camping at Central Lake campground, within the Custer State Park, and the DNR came and dumped a couple thousand Trout into the lake. I still didn't catch one.
roberts last name trips
Pike is my go to! Bones are a pain, but it's my go to when I can't get deep sea fish. Stop by Illinois for some musky and some drinks 🍸 Shabbona Lake.
Pike and pickerel are good.
I wonder if you can pull those bones with fish tweezers like you can pin bones from other fish.
They are attached to the main backbone. They are a pain in the @$$. We try to do the best we can. I need more practice filleting pike.
@@blackhillskayakanglers1394 Heh, answering questions from a year ago. I appreciate it 🙂

I really hate that you're banned from coming to Canada, such a bummer. Have you ever thought of applying for a pardon, if it's possible?
🕊🤴🕊
Woulda been alot better if you cooked the tortillas
There is no such thing as a trash fish my friend
So true
Rob.. "technically" you live in a van down by the river. lol Love your show bro. When are you coming to the Outer Banks!?
Ppl here r too spoiled, carp is good white fish, pike, also. Pike is very good as meat balls ground the fish few times through meat grinder.
not going to lie... but the way that man cut that jackfish ahahah should be ashamed
Gotta agree, never seen so much wasted pike as well
You need a microphone upgrade.
OK... need that story about being banned from Canada.
Fishing pike without steel or at least Fluor carbon is so stupid
Do you have to have a beard and be nicknamed asshole to be part of your fishing crew?
pike fishing without a proper leader lol how lazy can you be
And then you still don’t put a leader on... 🤦🏻♂️. That’s irresponsible fishing. Letting fish get lures stuck in their mouth and potentially making them unable to eat due to lure stuck in mouth and starve... I’m a big Muskie/ pike fisherman. And in the Muskie angler community that foolishness is frowned upon..
Dull knives, rushing cuts.

Full time UA-camrs.
Everyone’s out to make a dollar!
Robert, we need the Canada story lol...what happened 😳? Some crazy days in your youth? 😜
Pike is delicious, my favorite, once you get past the slime and bones
